I think son is the one who is genuinely in love with FL.. whereas Spcy guy wants inheritence , buz, and money and is the main villain

i think the wife saw what happened but isn't the killer herself.. killer 100% is the specy 2nd ML....again it was a well planned murder

the franchise got boring after some time.. initial few movies are fun because they keep adding powers and alternating the vantage point/ narrator

after those few movies.. it became run of the mill stuff
