He was about to commit suicide because he was super lonely and everyone with him was a mortal and all were dying. He lost all his companions. So out of exhaustion and everything he wanted to commit suicide and lu wuyi obviously wouldnโt let him do that. So I think in that scene she wanted to tell him that he was never alone. Awu (lu wuyi) will always be with him and he should not be sad. But a doll cannot do that so she cut off her tail to just make the littlest movement and save him from falling into complete loneliness and despair. she always just wanted to protect. ๐ฉท๐ฉทhope this explains it.
