you definitely are watching it with the wrong mindset. from what they showed until now, none of the main characters are wrong, they just have different ways of dealing with life and their pain. miji is lively, but she uses it to hide her pain. she loves her sister, but feels jealous of her mind and resents her mother for taking better care of her sister. while miji was healthy, bright and lively, mirae was sick and introverted, which made her use her brain as her armor. she hides her pain in order to not hurt her family. she kept a job she hated to keep her family feed. their mother isn't very good with her words and had to grow them with only the help of their grandmother, so she pretends she doesn't want to be cared for too, that she isn't lonely too. the grandmother acted as the girls' father. this lead her to neglect her own daughter. huso is very emotionally clever, he knows how to read people and their feelings, but he also likes to stay out of their business. this leads him hurt people with his assumptions. hosu's mother isn't his real mother. she loves him dearly and thinks of him as her real son, but she also feels insecure, partially because he's so independent she feels he doesn't fully treat her as his mother. so, nobody here is selfish, they all are trying to do what they know.

well, a family slaughtering is always a strong scene, but it is quite a common story in period dramas. it would have bigger impact if it happened after a few episodes, when we get to actually know the family. now it will be a lot of political stuff for zang hai growing. the writing needs to step up otherwise it won't hold on for long.
