for me, as native cantonese, hainanese sounds more like vietnamese. but canton and vietnam are side by side, in the history, they are under a same kingdom called bai yue, while canton name (yue) is same sound as vietnam (yue), i guess they are related somehow

the setting is hong kong, so they dub it with cantonese while the actors speak in mandarin
