A well-told story, but personally 3 hour 40 minutes runtime was too long, some parts felt draggy. From the start, it was obvious what FL's fate was. The CP's journey together was endearing and realistic, portrays the emotional throes of terminal illness and dying (for both the patient and their loved ones); a rollercoaster ride of optimism one moment, despair the next.
Some parts of the story-telling was confusing for me, when it transitions in and out of flashbacks/present time, or when ML imagines the late FL present with him in his older years, but did not throw off the overall story.
Saddest moment that caught me by surprise involved a minor supporting character (who's also literally a minor). My gut told me this character was doomed, but it was set up that she may have a HE (if only temporary), but as they often do in drama land, it was asking too much. The heart-wrenching cries from the parents were very real. Personal note: this brought back some real PTSD for me, as I had to watch in realtime a child code due to complications from cancer treatment during my internship at a pediatric hospital.. I will never forget the screams and cries from the child's mother as she begged the crash team to not let her baby die.. 23 year later and I can still remember it as if it were yesterday.
Trivial details probably no one else cares about:
.. bald cap done well. I appreciate the patchy loss of hair.
Dr. Zhuang (FL's love rival)... I have never really been too angry at a fictional character, but she made me want to smack the ever-loving daylights out of her. I don't care if you have personal beef with a person (or if you have an underlying "benevolent" motive), as a doctor you took an oath to care for and treat your patients to best of ability and with dignity, primum non nocere. If you cannot separate personal and professional life, you should not be a doctor (let alone treating dying patients). She should have been suspended and immediately relieved of all her patient care duties, reported to the ethics board, have her practicing licensures revoked, and barred from ever practicing medicine again (at least in a patient care capacity); but of course her dad is a hospital administrator so she's probably untouchable. There was a later scene where she criticized a colleague for tampering with research data as "unethical" and I was like "....."
... details aside, totally recommend.

Really enjoyed this one! After the 3+ hours I wanted more, did not feel draggy at any point, kept my goldfish attention span from start to finish. Was more fun and lighthearted than I thought given the subject matter. I was dreading the ending, because the last drama I watched about HD had an "open" ending ("Love is Panacea" long form). Granted the ending did feel slightly cop-out -ish, but overall I was satisfied.
For a story that deals with a lot of serious issues (chronic illness, euthanasia, self-identity and self worth, C-PTSD), this was a fun watch without feeling patronizing and belittling the delicate issues.
.. I'm also noticing a pattern where characters with serious debilitating sickness seems to be shunned and viewed as if they're dirty. This is at least the 3rd drama I've seen where those with cancer or other disease has received "ew, you're dying?! that's disgusting!" reactions in the stories. I'm sure they're plot devices, but if this is an actual sentiment in China, that's pretty messed up (just my 2 cents).
Otherwise, highly recommend. (Li Youlin should do more modern dramas, the man is fiiiinne 🤭)
