So to make story popular they need add some catchy things as humor (which will trandings and attach more people) Some new cliffhangers, which will make people talk about, more talks edits hot topics more popularity. For example they add BXS , he alone attach a lot of people, huge amount of edits in bilibili about his character.
And about spoilers maybe a lot people didn't read novel , but they can read all that spoilers, there will be no surprises in drama, and as I said it still can works without it if actors or novel have a lot fans, who will hyping it anyway.

I suggest you forget everything you know about novel and just enjoy story, as you know writer herself made a lot changes, maybe she want explore this story in different way. If they just adapted novel word by word, there will be almost no hype, because first this novel not that crazily popular, second because everyone will know everyone what will happen next. And while people here and china hating on ML, popularity rising 🤣 because people want talk about it, make theories, angry or defending and so on. Adaptation (especially like 40 ep adaptation!) need some cliffhangers and dramatic events. (If you think about TTEOTM ita like 10000 misunderstandings and drama, but it the most popular costume dramas from last 3 years)
