In my humble opinion, I think XJ was not angry because of she was once HRF. But because he has already feelings for her and HY hide something so crucial from him which also triggered the fact that HY had always been with him since the academy, yet when MINGSHUI (or whatever that called) battle happened, he lost his parents then HRF is the reason why 30k soldiers died too. He knew theres more to it than meets the eye, but at the moment there was no other choice but to vent his anger towards her because of that incident and the fact that he already loves her but is conflicted 😭🫡

I think theres still more regarding both of their part. XJ literally hates HRF because of his fathers death, followed by that injustice in the court later. Which is why XJ said "what happened to you" implying she became blind in justice and war where in fact it was the REAL HRF already and not HY. Thats why he couldnt fully blame her and made FEINU investigate which MAYBE will get the scene later where he will realized his feelings and the misunderstanding cleared. And of course the iconic "Im sorry I did not recognize you sooner". This is just my take so I dont want to comment negative first then regret later, one lesson I learn from watching cdramas for more than a decade is: PREVIEWS/TEASERS is misleading to catch the audience interest and emotions. And not only in cdrama.
I love this so much. Im halfway there and I dont find this draggy like everyone is saying. They are slowburn, and the pacing is perfect because theyve known each other too long so I can understand both. And Im a sucker for friends to lovers and slowburn as long as its done right. ✨🫡
