The world building isn't explained much in this one (it mostly explains background related to the Dark River) so watching the other two might help in understanding the setting of this universe e.g. who against who, who is on which side and where the Dark River plays roles. With that said, I think this series is complete on its own. There might be a lot of names and titles that you're not familiar with and they're just briefly mentioned in random context like you already knew them lol.

Yeah lol feels like watching the anime version but this one probably covers more into the novel
