It could be because in the book, he supported Huang Chao, HC was the bad guy who wanted to control the world.

In the book, Huang Chao was the vallain. YWY supported Huang Chao to beome the leader of the world; therefore YWY is the opposite side of BFX. Both HC & YWY are opposite side of BFX & HFX.

it's not showing how he got on the wooden plank. I think the wooden plank was part of the ship. The water got into the ship and it was wrenking so ML and everyone probably just held on to something the ship to stay alive.
