if you really understand wen yifan’s character as an individual and not just for her relationship with sang yan, you would know her life has been crammed with guilt bcoz she was made to feel guilty about everything, down to the food she ate. it makes complete sense why she would run away, its the same culpability she felt when she left sangyan back in hs. her character isn't ruined. she just did what her teenage self did, bcoz that's the reasonable path she knew how to evade from the situation she was in, running. I understand the frustration with the show's change in this certain detail. But, this isn't a series filled with just happy arcs; it explores themes of abuse and trauma. While sy can serve as an anchor for wyf, it's crucial for her to recognize that she is ultimately the only one who can anchor her own life.

it's not in the novel it was the other way around, Sang Yan was the one who rans away and Yi Fan chase after him but in drama they change it so the novel readers are upset and then haters/trolls jumping in the comments to join in
