I'm on ep 3 I just started this drama but how come the God of war pretended he didn't know Orchid when she came to give him a basket of flower? Then it shows he has flashback 500 yrs ago she helped him out and that's how he has her handkerchief...so he sure remembers her but how come he acted aloof, distant and unbothered during their meeting in the forest?? It'd have been nice if he acknowledged her and says something along the line like "we meet again" or whatever. Like am I missing something? I just find it weird that now he cares about her and even made a pill to help her for the immortal examination

I think if it was out of filial piety she would've stayed by her mother's side, it was implied by Yangyang that the mom hasn't been faring well in health but NN decided to stay beside the Empress choosing loyalty before filial piety. She's making an allusion to show her mother that she understands her mother's decision of abandoning her painfully. It was either between "loyalty vs filial piety" and the parents chose "loyalty" for the country to go to war and abandoning their baby (NN)...I mean at the end of the day at least we got the mother admitting she was wrong that's the least we got from her lol an apology of some sort... Empress was the real mother figure to NN so she decided to give the remaining time and love to her bcuz she knew the empress didn't have long to live. They supported each other truly a remarkable bond/relationship imo
