Dropped this one when ML and FL suddenly fell in love. It didn't make any sense the way it happened. There was no romantic buildup.
I guess one could argue that he has been in love with her (image) for a long time. But her suddenly falling for him, while all the other crazy stuff is happening, makes no sense whatsoever. Frankly, my immediate feeling was, that she must have fallen for his status, being emperor and all. That is how weird it felt.
Hmm. First I though this would be a transmigration into the past story. I like those. Although the magic element bothered me a bit.
Now it turns out to be a full on Isekay. And the ML is OP as hell. Not only does he have more advanced knowledge and is quite witty. He is also very attuned to magic. That bothers me a bit more.
I am still enjoying it though. It's just that OP characters get boring after a while, necessitate OP antagonists.
Just a couple of episodes in, and the way the ML is written is weird. The way he asked her to marry him after dating just a couple of weeks was really sketchy. When they reunite he is clearly pissed about the breakup. Then he is suddenly all about her, almost stalkerish.
This is slowly shaping up to become my favorite historical fiction drama. The characters and the script are great. The historical tidbits at the end of each episode are nice too.
I enjoyed the drama until FL's confession. I wish she would have stayed true to her conviction and would not pursue her infatuation with the ML. I would have preferred more of a platonic relationship between them. That would not fly with the typical cdrama viewership though, I guess. So I am dropping this one, although it is not bad. I'm just not excited for the romance and drama that will now follow.
Btw Y'ALL AREN'T SEEN HOW PROBLEMATIC HER HUSBAND IS???idk but instead I hate her husband more. He comes off as…
Well, there is a serious lack of dialogue in the relationship. It's like they are obsessed with doing what each of them thinks is the best for the kid, without consultation or agreement.
But for the husband to pull the divorce card and blame her for the what happened to the kid was indeed pretty shitty, in particular when the wife is at her lowest.
Dan Su's confession, flaunting wealth in front of her, was so cringe. It seem that he doesn't understand that for a relationship the feelings have to be mutual. Instead he is trying to force it.
Besides, does he actually really care about her? His protest against his granny was rather short lived and inconsequential. How can he be fine with supposedly the love of his life being mistreated at work?
I don't understand Seo-In. He did something very dangerous by training the orphans/outcasts. Yet he went ahead and married Tae Yeong and thus implicitly endangered her. Now his father is dead and I am not even sure what Tae Yeong's status is.
There is a thing that is starting to annoy me, which is also present in other Chinese historical fiction. You have the heroes bending over backwards and going trough seemingly endless suffering to expose the evil guy. Why not just take him out, have an assassin deal with him, poison him, etc? Is it too simple of a solution? Would it tarnish their heroic image too much? After all the MLs in such dramas are often quite ruthless, slaying goons left and right.

Still I somehow managed to watch 20 episodes, just hoping that she can somehow outsmart the ML. Alas it was pointless.
If you enjoy watching the FL suffer, then this is the show for you.
