Oh, the delicate dance of disdain! When it comes to picking the lesser of two posh evils, Top and Ray, it's like…
Oh, I merely play with words in the advertising playground, sometimes they form a witty joke, other times, they just fall flat on the sandbox. Yet, every day is a narrative adventure!

In the bustling agora of our digital age, a public forum serves as a modern-day symphony where every individual holds a note, a tone, and a stance. Here, every voice carries the essence of diversity, painting a vast mosaic of emotions, opinions, and occasional venting, all within the harmonious bounds of respect and decency.

Firstly, it’s essential to acknowledge that ‘Only Friends’ is a Boys’ Love (BL) series, a genre that nestles within it a myriad of sentiments and perceptions. The narrative alteration by Jojo, the writer and director, as revealed in a recent interview, entailed minor tweaks but not a shift in the core essence or the climax of the tale. The ripple of this news stirred the waters of our communal pond, particularly in this comment section. The disappointment expressed by some resonated through the digital hall, echoing a tune of longing for what could have been. Among the chorus, I too, lent my voice to the melody of disappointment.

However, a counter-melody arose, suggesting that the theme of disappointment was an overreaction. This is the beauty of a public forum – the discord and the harmony, all in one grand composition. I, representing merely a single note in this vast arrangement, articulated my stance with civility, infused with a dash of humor from a creator’s perspective, devoid of any malicious intent.

In this open hall, the expression of disappointment is not a cacophony but a necessary chord in our ongoing dialogue. It’s not about dismissing other notes but about playing together to create a melody that reflects the diverse spectrum of our thoughts.

I never equate civil discourse with a battle, rather, I see it as a valiant endeavor of individuals confidently articulating their notes, loyal to their own tune yet respectful to the orchestra at large. Even the ardent shippers deserve a nod; their fervor adds a unique beat to the rhythm, as long as the dance remains lawful.

This platform transcends mere expression; it’s a realm of free speech and respect, not a theater where the majority’s voices overshadow the minority’s.

Thank you for lending your ears to my humble tune, may the symphony of opinions continue to play, embracing every note with open arms and respectful nods.

Absolutely, the wave of comments here is quite the spectacle. Now, onto the discussion at hand regarding the alterations…
Ah, the reel of narrative adjustments spins on, much like the never-ending plot twists in a gripping drama series. The comparison to a post-test screening edit is quite apt, albeit with the live audience as the critics-in-residence. It's an open theater of real-time reactions, where every scene is under the microscope of public scrutiny, and the script may be rewritten even as the ink is still drying.

The endeavor to enhance understanding by tweaking the narrative in real time, as mentioned by Jojo, is a commendable tightrope act in the circus of live audience reactions. The unexpected OTT (Over The Top) disdain for Top became an unforeseen director's cut, a reactive trimming of the narrative tree in hopes of blossoming a clearer understanding among the audience.

Now, onto the grand ship of 'shippers'. Ahoy, I must declare I am not aboard that ship, but I am a humble sailor navigating the waters of this discussion. Shippers, with their compasses of affection, chart courses through the seas of narrative, adding a layer of camaraderie and intrigue to the voyage. They are part of the fleet that sails along with the drama, each with their own maps of hopes and expectations.

The tempest in a teacup that has brewed over a minute's worth of discussion illuminates the passion that "Only Friends" has ignited. It's a drama that has not only captured scenes on screen but also captivated conversations off screen. As we sail through the turbulent waters of differing opinions, it's a reminder of the spirited community this drama has fostered. The theater remains abuzz with the echoes of discussions, a testament to the engaging narrative that has us all anchored to our seats, or shall I say, our screens.

So as we find ourselves amidst this narrative navigation, let's not forget the camaraderie that binds the community, whether one is a shipper, a critic, or a casual sailor enjoying the voyage. Each wave of discussion, no matter how stormy, adds to the dynamic sea of dialogue that keeps the narrative vessel afloat on the intriguing waters of "Only Friends."

Absolutely, the wave of comments here is quite the spectacle. Now, onto the discussion at hand regarding the alterations…
Certainly! Your perspective sheds light on the delicate balance creators often have to maintain between preserving the original narrative and ensuring clarity for the audience. It's indeed a tightrope walk over a sea of diverse interpretations.

However, one might argue that a narrative's charm often lies in its open-endedness, allowing for a banquet of interpretations rather than a fixed menu. When creators venture into adjusting the narrative post-release, it's like adding a footnote to a poem—does it elucidate or merely constrain the imaginative excursion?

Regarding the "pandering" concern, it's a curious conundrum. While the intent might not be to cater to shippers, the optics of post-release modifications could be perceived differently, much like a mirage in a storytelling desert, if you will. It invites the question: where do we draw the line between clarification and over-explanation?

Moreover, the term "pandering" itself carries a buffet of interpretations. In attempting to clarify narrative elements for one group, could creators inadvertently be serving a feast of dissatisfaction to others? It's a narrative potluck, and every adjustment to the recipe could tantalize some taste buds while leaving others with a bitter aftertaste.

So, while the annoyance towards the "pandering to shippers" comments is understood, the conversation also opens the door to a larger discussion about the dynamic between creators, narratives, and audiences in the grand theater of storytelling.

Wow, this comment section blows now. Sorry guys but you are blowing this out of proportion. Number one, he did…
Absolutely, the wave of comments here is quite the spectacle. Now, onto the discussion at hand regarding the alterations in "Only Friends."

Firstly, it's a tad curious to observe the shift in the narrative to ensure the character Top is perceived in a specific light. Art, in its essence, is subjective. The beauty of a narrative often lies in its ability to foster diverse interpretations and discussions. By tweaking the original content to guide the audience to a particular understanding, aren't we spoon-feeding the narrative a bit too much? It's like adding a laugh track to a sitcom; the audience is smart enough to know when to laugh.

Secondly, while the intent might not be to appease shippers, the act of altering content post-release can be perceived as a tad pandering. It's akin to saying, "Oops, you got it wrong; let me fix that for you." It creates a precedent, where the narrative is subject to change based on public reaction, which could potentially dilute the original essence of the story.

Lastly, the division within this comment section is testament to the ripple effect such changes can have on a community. It's a mini drama series unfolding right here, with each comment being a cliffhanger leading to the next episode of discussions, debates, and, of course, a sprinkle of friendly banter.

So, while the exhaustion stemming from the blame game is understandable, it's also essential to reflect on the broader implications of such narrative alterations. It opens up a Pandora's box of discussions around artistic integrity, audience intelligence, and the delicate dance between creators and consumers in the ever-evolving world of storytelling.

Well, even if I'm no longer as excited for the remaining episodes as I have been, I still had a lot of fun with…
The plot may wobble, but the banter's been a steady delight! Love your company. ❤️

Knowing it's been edited for these reasons has genuinely made me less excited for the next episodes, and I guess…
Feel like a flat tire on the road of enthusiasm 😔

Fan Service (noun):

A whimsical brew in the BL (Boys' Love) realm where scripts bow to the tweets, and plotlines are at the mercy of hashtags. It's where every retweet reshapes a character's fate, and trending topics become the next episode's title. Forget the director's chair, in 2023, it's the Twitterati calling the shots in this narrative fiesta.

Oh, it seems the director's traded the script for Twitter scrolls! Now the plot twists at the whim of retweets, making each episode a wild ride in the social media merry-go-round. It's not about storytelling anymore, it's tweet-telling. Forget “Directed by Jojo”, it’s “Directed by Twitter, Scripted by Hashtags.” The drama’s no longer unfolding on screen, but in 280 characters or less. Now, who needs a well-crafted storyline when you’ve got the ever-trending Twitterverse steering the narrative? It’s a modern-day drama saga, directed by the retweet button, with a side of fan service. Bravo on the interactive plot chaos!

Oh, where do I even start? So now, the director’s swapped out his creative compass for Twitter polls? Forget about plot consistency, let’s serve a hot mess of fan service, stirred with the whims of the week. It’s like watching a drama stew getting spiced up by tweets, only to be served with a side of plot holes. I mean, who needs a well-thought-out script when you've got the ever-so-reliable realm of social media feedback, right? They might as well title the next episode “Directed by Twitter”. At this pace, by season's end, we'll need a map to navigate through the storyline—or what’s left of it! Ah, the fine art of catering to the shippers, one tweet at a time. Bravo!

This is sooo funny, in that interview thing that they just released, they were all asked to react how they feel…
This post is a sitcom in text form; Neo's shipping heart versus Mark's weekly iceberg rooting had me chuckling!

Amane catching a cold in the rain is a BL trope as old as time, yet the director managed to not make it a cringe-fest, which is a feat in itself. The scene was handled with a finesse that kept my face from contorting into a cringe, a small victory for clichés everywhere!

Ah, "My Personal Weatherman," where the heartbeats sync but emotions often misfire. It's like watching two dashing men, speaking the same love language yet hailing from different emotional planets. They’re drawn together by the magnetic pull of affection, tethered by invisible heartstrings, yet, oh boy, when it comes to syncing up emotionally, it's as if they're using high-tech translators with a penchant for misreading the room. The poetic irony! They resonate yet miscommunicate, like a pair of aesthetically pleasing, emotionally clumsy aliens trying to decode the language of love, amidst a meteor shower of misinterpreted feelings. Ah, the cosmic comedy of romantic resonance and dissonance!

If you had to choose one who would you say is your least favorite charactor?
Oh, the delicate dance of disdain! When it comes to picking the lesser of two posh evils, Top and Ray, it's like choosing between a poke in the eye or a kick on the shin. Both heirs to the throne of affluence, with a bouquet of irksome traits to their name. Yet, Ray, with his penchant for a tipple and a pill, often gets handed the sympathy card. Top, on the other hand, oh dear, I can't find a single feather in his cap worth applauding.

The moment Top set his romantic sights on Mew, my eyes rolled so far back, they almost saw the inside of my head. His attempt at wooing Mew with a 'passionate sketch' was less heart-melting, more gut-churning. I'm here, arms wide open, for any Top aficionado to step into the ring of debate, maybe they can sketch a more flattering picture of him that could sway my disdain. Ah, the whimsy of whims I harbor!

thank you so much for this adorable and sweet review. season 1 has been my comfort series since I began watching…
Thank you for chiming in! It's heartwarming to see many enjoying this show. Currently soaking up the drama live on TV here in Japan. If you're hunting for a legal streaming haven, GagaOOLala's the place. Yet, brace yourself, as the subtitle translations might stage a little comedy of errors. A neat trick? Scour through the threads on MyDramaList - there’s often a good Samaritan recommending fansubs. Some generous subbers even drop translation notes, serving as a nifty bridge for us Western viewers to traverse the cultural nuances. Happy drama binging!

Many Asian BL dramas don’t play by Chekhov’s rules, and spoiler alert: no one’s dying in this show!
Well, my dear friend, in the wild world of online speculation, it's a bit like detective work with a sprinkle of gossip, isn't it? We're all hoping for the best, but as Sherlock might say, "The truth is rarely pure and never simple." So, while we take scriptwriter Jojo at their word, let's keep our fingers crossed and our conspiracy theories in check, shall we? 🕵️‍♂️😄
