"i want to protect you" is a metaphor meaning that the partner is so precious to him that he wouldn't let any harm come to her in the event that she can't protect herself. i mean it's only human, there are times we can defend ourselves and there are times we rely on others for help. if a girl were to tell me (a guy) that she'll protect me, i'll be happy to know that she love me that much.

being strong and independent doesn't stop your partner from worrying about you, just as growing up doesn't stop your parents from worrying about you and will go to save you in a heartbeat if something happens to you. it's that kind of relationship that shows how strong the love is.

but somehow in this drama, that phrase is misinterpreted and taken literally as an insult thinking the partner looks down on her for being weak and unable to defend herself. not sure why modern dramas are always showing women as always being defensive and angry over every thing.

feel sorry for the main lead guy that i couldn't get past the first episode. never wrote anything negative about a drama before until this one. i guess there's always a first time for everything.
