I get what your saying believe me i've been through it myself, after the law change here in the very late 80's (yes i'm that old lol) my biological mother was one of the first to register to look for the son she had to give up at birth, society being what it was back then and her being only 16, i knew i was adopted because my parents explained it all to me when i was old enough to understand, so i had no problem when i was contacted by the govt dept that was handling it and was quite happy to meet her, however it didn't take long for the Ma Ri effect (for want of a better way of putting it) to start kicking in and it nearly drove us apart again.
But i put my foot down and told her straight out that while she was my Biological mother she wasn't my mum who had brought me up put up with all my shit etc so pull your head in or we are done, might sound harsh but it was the only way....

know many are hating on DS for always staying with his mom, but I kind of get it. Yes, he knows everything MJ did to DR and that should've been enough to completely cut her off his life. But, as the oldest, he was the only one that actually got to know his mom when she was a good person, he witnessed how hardworking she was, how hard she tried to support her family. He was also the one who witnessed the moment his mom's life took a bad turn. He knew her playing cards was not a good idea, but it was the one hobby her mom had after a difficult day and he has that guilt of not stopping her. After so many years he still had that hope and still wanted to believe his mom, the good one, would come back but now that she ruined DJ's life he finally accepted that his good mom is never coming back, that she's too far gone to change back...
