Not saying it’s his fault at all. I’m saying the shows were not good. Not saying he was not good in them. I know he was good in them.
I think people associate bad scripts with no talent but he’s really good at emoting even when he has subpar actresses facing him like cheng xiao or gulna

I watch a lot of kdramas too I actually prefer them most of the time I find cdramas lacking because they have to go through censorship. I te d to prefer modern kdramas to c dramas but that ‘s to be expected most modern c dramas are fluff and have no consistency since the censhorship has hardened there are less good costume dramas as well and I haven’t liked a fantasy costume drama in a while There are not a lot of Korean actors that I dislike wookie has been a favorite of mine but he hasn’t starred in anything good lately (welcome to was so so) I can also cite a lot of Korean actors that could have that aura.
I thin for example the dude yu Zheng wanted for the double would have sucked in that role because he’s a mediocre actor but I can see a few others with very expressive eyes that could have done it as well as wxy but I’m not sure they would have the amazing chemistry he had with wjy
But you’re right we don’t always connect with the same actors. I think it’s to be expected. It would be sad if all liked the same people.

I remember domine saying they a had recut them between episode 7 and 10 and it wasn’t true whether on YOUKU international or Viki.
Maybe in China they recut them but for international users I don’t think that was the case
However I agree the new rules suck. The censorship has increased and the 40 episodes rule and 2500 minutes makes no sense. Like someone said shows like Minglan or yanxi needed that many episodes to tell a complete story.
And it’s not because the bbc is capable of turning a 500 pages book into a 6 episodes miniseries that it is ideal. And I would say if you don’t’like shows that are 40 episodes long don’t watch c dramas
The double adaptation is very good and it’s very very different from the novel. If they were to adapt the novel more closely it would have needed another 10 episides. As a side note I never was able to finish joy of life and I really like the main actor.
