Perhaps why my feelings are so mixed after watching this drama is the fact that I actually liked quite a lot of it? I feel that if it was advertised to be less of a romcom and more of drama that intended to talk about serious topics it would've had a better reception. If it had a smoother shift between genres and/or if it wasn't so extreme on either end it might've gone smoother as well.
I thought the script wasn't terrible and that the story was mainly warped by the way the drama was directed. I was sincerely touched by the messages it was attempting to convey. Some of it hit really hard, some of it kinda didn't stick. Varying levels of success, I suppose.
I thought all of the actors did amazing. I admit I am biased towards Lee Min-Ki, but I really thought everyone did a really good job. His character is pretty complex and though sometimes I felt the writer was sabotaging him, I could see why he took the project. The FL was down to earth in a refreshing way, though I understand why viewers would be frustrated by her back and forth attitude at first. It's just particularly maddening that the emotional impact they delievered was interupted all the time by bad pacing and just...not very understandable story choices.
Lovely OST, and a standout point was the relationship between the ML and ML's mother.
If you're a fan of the actors, especially LMK, I think it's worthwhile for the acting alone. Just be aware that while this drama has a very interesting premise it isn't a drama with a very satisfying progression. If you go in with zero expectations, an open mind and perhaps a little more patience than normal, it might give you some surprises!
