I feel this drama would be better if it didn't focus so much on the romance. So far, I am not convinced by Jiun…
I’m fine w romance but it feels they are rushing into it. And honestly the other aspects of the story (FL living life as a man, politics and background story of some characters) are more interesting than the romance so far lol.
Ep 1-2 focused more on the politics and the FL and they are definitely the best eps for me so far. 3-5 has introduced a bit more interaction btw the ML and FL and I thought those were not as interesting.
Then again this is a fusion youth romance not a political historical drama, so we might both have to reset our expectations haha.

i guess it could be interpreted as romantic love to some but to me i just think hes protective of her because of the gravity of her situation. if my cousin im close to knew i'd die if people found out I was a girl instead of a guy, he’d probably be extremely protective of me as well and vice versa. Buying a ring is kinda weird but it’s kind of understandable-he knows she’s a girl who seems to want girly things so he’s just trying to satisfy that part of her desire that no one else should know about.
Because honestly among her kin he’s the only living person who knows she’s a girl and so I think he could be viewing himself as the only family/person of power the FL could rely on (which is true at this point, even if the FL doesn’t know he knows).
Also I think the writers definitely made his feelings for her a bit vague on purpose - so that we can anticipate whether or not he’s gonna be part of the love triangle (or square or pentagon or potential hexagon).
And I’m reallllyyyy hoping he’s not part of this love (x-sided shape) bcos I would not b able to bear the burden of his heartbreak because I like his character more than the ML at this point (even if I don’t ship the ship

He seems to just care for her as a cousin. if you watch the flashback it seems hes just concerned for her given shes carrying such a big burden. also cousin romance wasnt really observed historically in joseon, nor has any kdrama depicted cousin romance in joseon dynasty. (pls correct me if im wrong)
Why do I have a feeling that Hyun will be paired off with a second FL? I just hope they don’t make cousin romance a thing, fiction or history regardless
i hope they make it a fantasy adventure drama with minimal romance. fantasy romance tends to be a bit corny and go down the "you are my fated destiny and love 4ever" route
