I certainly agree with your point. Jigna's murder was indeed a over kill. But your point is exactly the irony the movie aims to convey, these people come from minority class and the movie wants to portray their hardships and the story line is set in time where gay marriages aren't recognized. Maybe they hardcore wanted to traumatize thongkam's character showing how is it likely to be gay and poor lol. Simply they wanted to portray how oppressed the society is for queer. So expecting happy ending is a rare case when the title card itself explains whats going to unfold for us.
