FL is not at all pretty that's making it a hard watch. Someone like meng ziyi or wu jinyan would have been perfect…
It looks like the female lead may have had some cosmetic work done, particularly to her lips, which is quite noticeable. In a historical costume drama, where the styling is meant to evoke a more natural, period look, it can be a little distracting.
I also got the impression that the male lead may have had some cosmetic enhancements as well. His jawline appears unusually sharp and prominent, making it stand out at times.
If you're hoping for plenty of romance and chemistry between the leads, you might be disappointed. There really isn't much of it, and what romance there is feels mostly one-sided. This drama is much more about the female lead finding her strength and standing on her own than it is about a love story. That said, I always enjoy watching a smart, intelligent female lead who refuses to accept her fate and keeps defying the odds, choosing instead to earn everything through her own abilities. That's where this drama really shines.

It was all staged so their little family could finally be together. It was the only way out. He also never wanted the throne, his only wish was for the people to live in peace and harmony (and to do this is through education). The ML even blocked the building exit to stop the FL from ruining his plan. Later he spoke of meeting her "sooner in the next life". Guess who else was listening as he kept talking? That's when the FL finally understood what he truly meant. The hairpin never pierced his body. Clever dialogue and scriptwriting.
