You know I have always wondered what happened to him after If Voice Has Memory. He didn't have any projects in 2022 which I put it down to covid lockdown. You confirmed my suspicions - that FL in voice has memory wasn't taken well at all by his fans or the audience on Wb! He had to rebuild his career as you said. In 2023/24 he had collaborated with iQiyi , Wetv and Tencent in various dramas mainly in support roles. In 2024 he had a couple of projects under iQiyi - White Cat Legend and Fox Spirit Matchmaker in support roles and one project under Tencent as a ML in Lady revenger returns from fire. FP1&2 was 🥭 production and as you said LBTG under Tencent. I note that most of his solo modern ML roles are through Mango. So nothing has changed!
I think he signed with Mango in 2017 and continues to be under them through this Cheng Yu Ltd. Maybe his contract says he has to prioritise their productions first and give schedules only outside of their shoots. It's a complex trap 🙄

To play a complex multidimensional character like Liu Chang, whose behaviours are often reprehensible for us but rational for him due to his past traumas, hidden vulnerabilities and complex motivations, is rather challenging! Kudos to Miles for accepting this role and for giving a terrifying yet fascinating character called Liu Chang, drawing the audience in even as they repulse.

Want to add a couple of scenes showing this transition -
When Mudan pretends to fall down and stalls LC carriage to buy time for JCY and asks him for help, he is totally aware that it is not her true intention. But he doesn't rush! He helps her and speaks slowly. His dialogue " It's rare for you to take the initiative to come and find me, no matter what, I am willing to stay with you for the moment" and then drops her at her residence and gets the guards to surround it 😂
I also liked the scene where when his plan to frame JCY fails and Prince Ning gets angry and breaks his tea cup he actually kneels on the broken cup piece and asks for forgiveness and another chance. Look at his expressions here carefully- he is planning something! Contrast this with his expressions in the scene in S1 where he refuses to accept Ning's offer to marry the Princess and gets beaten and his legs broken. This contrast in acting is commendable!
S2 is going good. However I felt that Shen Yi brother plot was not necessary. It would have done good for the drama if they had shown some more scenes of LC transitioning from a pedantic scholar to a corrupt official! Or even some scenes of His Majesty and his background..
