It seems the story has changed to Mei Zhuyu seeking revenge (hating demons), investigating his parent's death. In the novel, he worked in the imperial ministry of justice (dealing with humans); in the drama, he works in the bureau of mystic investigations, I assume that is non-humans? So, now I beginning to see why they labeled it as wuxia leaning, although it's not classic wuxia. So, that means, he will have to confront Wu Zhen who is half demon (but it's not her fault, she didn't choose to be demon and she's keeping demon city in order.. there must be more to the conflict). In the novel, he didn't have any conflicts.

@whoissilmoy Where did end up watching it I am up to episode 3 right now really enjoying it so far.
I just started ep. 2.. It's very high quality. Both Tian Xi Wei and Xu Kai truly embody their characters—Wu Zhen and Mei Zhuyu feel like they’ve stepped right out of the novel. Tian Xi Wei captures Wu Zhen with exquisite precision, and Xu Kai brings Mei Zhuyu to life with quiet intensity.

I don't know why it's only score 7.9?.....I already finished the first 5 episodes, and honestly I expected that…
MDL has no rationale

At the end of Episode 1, when the light hits Mei Zhuyu’s eyes, you can see that beautiful amber glow. At first, I felt like something got cut in ep. 1, but they're moving the story along rapidly. Instead of drawn-out scenes, he uses impactful scenes to reveal things.

Usually, it’s an affectionate form of address from older family members
but Mei Si is supposed to be younger, he is 4th "son", is he older in the drama?

They changed it compared to the novel so drama may be different and has already started their romance differently,…
The novel is only good for understanding the world setting and the various character's personalities, the drama story is different, some of the dynamics have changed. There's a real plot in the drama from ep 1 we see Mei Zhuyu interested to go to the Records Library to investigate his parent's deaths.

I wonder if, in Scene 1—when she looks out the window after kicking that guy out—Mei Zhuyu gazes up at her with a sense of wonder. Could that be the moment he becomes captivated by her? Or is it meant to suggest that he recognizes her from before? In the novel, he once saw her bathing and was struck by her beauty, though she never saw him. Maybe this scene is a subtle nod to that earlier moment before they formally met.

Welcome to Xu Kai’s fans world. His haters mass downrate all his shows here which is why most of his dramas…
People who don't follow Xu Kai's works have no idea! True, it happens to all actors to varying degree, but for Xu Kai, it's on a whole different level from everyone else, They throw whatever they can and see what sticks.

(in novel) Mei Zhuyu, a reclusive, described as "a man of few words," is only 22 yrs old and I think Xu…
in the novel she feels he is a weakling can't defend himself, she finds him likable guy and because she thinks he is weakling, she beats up anyone who dares to pick on him. later, she finds out he is very strong when making out with her to the point his caresses bruise her. Then she tries to get him to make out in the day to see if he's just as strong in the day as at night.

The quality is so sharp that you can even notice the cakey makeup and the beard.
Xu Kai says his beard grows so fast, he has to shave three times a day! I think he's joking right? But yeah, in some scenes, you see that faint beard and his moles. What actor wears no makeup?

if you mean that we can see the raw faces, I think that is intentional, imo. I can tell the first minute, this…
I'm not sure what your point is. Are you're saying the actors are ugly without makeup or filtering?

Why doesn't this drama have an "airing" tag?
what do you mean? MDL didn't even label this drama as 2025 until 14 months later.

People tell me MDL does not hate Xu Kai. They did this exact same thing to SAF6. His success is feared by some people.

Wait, so are they married early or something like that? . I saw arranged marriage in the page of the novel.
It wasn’t a true arranged marriage in the novel, nor a forced one. Mei Zhuyu stumbled across her bathing one day while chasing demons—like biblical David and Bathsheba—but she didn’t know he had been struck by her beauty, and that it was he who proposed. But in the novel, they don't tell you this until chapters later and even Wu Zhen didn't know until much later. Stories shouldn't tell you everything up front, otherwise where is the surprise elements

Wu Zhen is very protective of her Mei ZhuYu, like a cat being very protective of their favourite toy…🤣.
