She's dead, she passed as a result of the drug trials and donated her body to science. The "SP" extra, is simply an alternative extra thing that is a little more vague or open ended on whether she has already passed or not. For those who would prefer that. )Though it's pretty clear this was edited after the fact, with reference to her death simply being edited out) But the ending in the actual episode, she has passed away and he's merely imagining her walking in. Which is why she's surrounded by angelic light.
What was the 34.5 last scene. Is she alive or just a dream?
He's imagining her walking in - as everything he's done for HD research has been inspired by her. But yes, she's definitely passed by that point. She was the patient that succumbed to the malignant brain tumour caused by the early drug trials and who donated her body to science. We see Gu Yun Zheng walking alone with their son along the beach - which again would imply that she is no longer there but they will always be together in spirit.
I really hate to say this as someone who has been looking forward to this drama for so long. And I tried to hold off on making a final opinion until I finished it. But honestly, overall... I'm kind of disappointed. Maybe that's my fault... Maybe my expectations were just too high for it to begin with. I was thinking it was going to be a serious and emotional look at this disease and it's effects, instead it just came across...kind of shallow and tropey at times.
Pretty early on I had a bad feeling about the writing, pacing and execution of the story and the romance. I pushed through with the hopes that it would get better. And it actually did get better in some ways and this drama definitely had moments! It's definitely not all negative.
I was never once disappointed in Luo Yunxi's acting. As usual, this man elevates whatever content he's given. His naturalistic acting, expressions and line delivery really makes him stand out. He really is something special. But I don't think this drama did justice to his abilities. It didn't give him enough opportunities to really showcase just how good he is. The lovely and talented Zhang Ruo Nan, did a good job for the most part too. She managed to show a lot of nuance in her acting, especially when it comes to the more emotional side of things. (Ignoring the often cold, or flat out uncomfortable romantic interactions.)
But there was definitely a disconnect in there. To the point where I didn't get emotional like I thought I would. Not even at the end. And this is coming from someone who cries easily. But still, I am grateful this drama exists to bring some awareness to diseases like Huntington's Disease and other neurodegenerative and rare illnesses. I just think such a topic deserved better.
Oh well. Onwards to the next one I guess. #FollowYourheart2024. Let's go! and I will continue to keep a look out for Zhang Ruo Nan's future projects too,

Its not 2 bonus episodes and the individual episodes arn't longer in run time. It's just that the whole drama ends up running longer because many scenes throughout the entire drama have been cut on the tv version. (About two episodes in content im assuming by the end) for pacing reasons in some cases but also because of censorship reasons. For example there was an entire sequence where Gu Yun Zheng was bitten by a snake when they were out in the woods. He pulls out a condom from his wallet and has her suck the poison out of the wound through the condom. Guess they thought that was too much for tv audiences even though there wasnt anything overly sexual/r-rated or inappropriate about the scene.
Yes seems like Viki has the dvd version which had some extra scenes
I can only speak for Viki in my region, (so maybe it's different elsewhere) but it's definitely not the DVD version on Viki for me. It's the tv version.
This is my first Bai Lu and Dylan Wang drama. I watched up until episode 5 then stopped cos I got bored. But I…
Both of them are so much better than this drama. It's a shame this is your first drama for them. For Dylan I would recommend Love Between Fairy and Devil. He really shines in that one.
For a much better Bai Lu rom-com I would recommend Love is Sweet. Her and Luo Yunxi have incredible chemistry. Their other drama together Till the end of the moon is amazing too. I often refer to it as a masterpiece., albeit a flawed one. Though she really does have countless good dramas.
As a fan of both of these actors I too was disappointed by this one. They deserve better...
Yes, in the novel Su Wei'an plan is to get genetics screening and if it's positive then she will terminate the…
Given that he's a doctor and scientist, I feel like it would be really awful and irresponsible of him to not care about that. To have a child knowing that you're basically risking their life on a coin toss. If I found out my parents had me with the knowledge that I had a 1 in 2 chance of developing a horrific fatal illness, i'd be a bit pissed off honestly.
is there difference between the tv version and dvd version? i saw two versions and i dont know which one to watch?
The DVD version is longer, there are a number of scenes that have been cut out of the TV version. In total it will be about 2 episodes of content cut. The DVD version will run for 36 episodes instead of 34.
So I have a question for my fellow Moonies who are seniors in parenting and who are teachers! When do you start…
I think it depends on what country you're in. In Australia I dont think many parents are scouting when their babies are only 2 months old. They might have an idea of where they might send them based on where they live but it wouldnt be unusual to just be enjoying and adjusting to life with their newborns. You are definitely not bad parents if you haven't done that just yet. π

No problem. the recovery pack is our go to for new watchers. haha I don't think these two videos were included in it, but I know they've made quite a few people feel somewhat better about the ambiguous ending. So I often send them too.
Wowβ¦ just finished the drama. Their love story is so beautiful yet heart aching. Feel sad for them with the…
For all we know, he did come back after 500 years, popping out of the heart guarding scale right after the credits rolled. haha. (There would be a kind of symmetry and balance to that, as he also looked for her for 500 years) In the OG script for the drama, they actually did have him return at the end and they met him at the river.
In the novel, it takes 1,000 years for him to be reborn, so I think, for those who want to look at the optimistic side of the open ending, that's what they were hinting at. At least the possibility of it. As you said, his goodness allowed the purified part of his essence to be saved by the scale.
These are few little videos that Youku released that may ease your heart a little.
It is definitely seeming likely that it's coming soon (within the next couples of weeks) given that Liu Shishi and Liu Yuning are about to start promoting it on shows (along with other cast) But I'm scared to get too excited in case something happens at the last minute. (ya never know with these things)
It sounds fake because it is. It's dubbed by other people. We just try look past that part. π
Well I think dubbing in general in C-Drama is okay most of the time. Even in this one. And getting better as more actors start dubbing themselves (like Luo Yunxi)
The issue with this drama is the other languages. You have actors who are clearly non-French speaking people and a few foreign actors who are probably not Chinese speaking people. They do their best to mouth the words to the best of their ability, but they're definitely not fluent in it - so it's never going to be able to match the voices of the people doing the French overdub. It doesn't help that there is an obvious difference between the voices.

Glad you liked the drama!

Then, as others have said, watch Love is Sweet. hehe.
Anyone have any story beats that they absolutely want to see before it's over?
