Da Yu Er is a Khorchin Mongol princess who is deeply in love with Dorgo, one of the several sons of Nurhaci, a Jurchen chieftain. Yet, she soon becomes the concubine of Dorgon's older brother, Hong Tai Ji. Hong Tai Ji is already married to Da Yu Rr's aunt, Jerjer, to secure the alliance between the Khorchin Mongols and Later Jin. Hong Tai Ji initially has feelings for Da Yu Er but realizes that she only loves Dorgon, so he directs his affections to her sister, Harjol. Hong Tai Ji later becomes the founder of the Qing Dynasty.
