Kurasawa Ippei embezzled money from the bank where he worked and went missing. His wife Ryoko has run from the public eye and leads a quiet life in her parents' country house. When Ippei shows up, tired of life on the run, the two bump into each other. At first, Ryoko urges him to give himself up, but then she proposes to shelter him for one week, on the condition that he signs the divorce papers. Ryoko wants to marry her new lover Yoshizumi. Ippei reluctantly agrees and hides in the storeroom. This does not stop Ryoko from receiving guests in the house and conducting her love affair.
