A drama that left a hole in my heart, a beautiful hole nevertheless.

The story is about the pure love that two human beings are capable of feeling for each other, a mother and a child who started out as complete strangers, only to become the center of one anothers' lives.

I gave the drama a 10 out of 10 for its great plot, the characters that are beautifuly written, and the cast whose performance is simply mindblowing. I love the acting because it wasn't only believable but it gave the story its whole magic. I loved the absence of romantic elements, as the story was focused on motherhood and didn't diverge.

I've rewatched it for the third time this year and couldn't help but cry with each depressing scene. The lines are heartbreakingly perfect, and every character falls perfectly into its place.

I've learned from Yoon bok how to save the glimpses of beauty I come to encouter in the everyday life, to never take things for granted and to smile. Her small journal was like a magical purse, in which she hid all her precious memories, as if she was collecting some rare gems she fears to lose.

Now I've managed to have my own journal of gems to help remind me of the good things, and stay strong when life gets hard.

The monologue that Kang Yeong Shin (Sujin's mother) says towards the end in her last moments of farewell, has dug its way deep into my heart and is still be one of the most marvellous scenes I've enjoyed in a kdrama.

If I had to describe this work in a word, it would be "MAJESTICAL".

This show should probably come with a trigger warning. There are many MANY scenes that could make you very uncomfortable if you are sensitive to violence against children. Tears flowed freely watching this one.

As the relationship between the teacher and little girl grows, the anxiety about their safety intensifies. The writers and show runners do a FABULOUS job of keeping things moving without giving too much away too quickly. Viewers get to feast on beautiful moments punctuated by suspenseful narrow escapes.

There are some real villains in this one. You feel a bit sorry for them toward the end but not enough to not hope they get what is coming for them. The actors, nearly every single one in the whole show, do the script justice. The little girl...holy amazing! This show is female heavy with males only as supporting characters and the casting directors all deserve a pay raise. A big one. These women are fantastic.

Your heart gets torn apart watching this one. Thankfully you get some stitching up before the show ends and you can be left feeling not completely gutted.

This drama made me distressed and nervous in every episode.
It addresses a heavy subject and present throughout the world. I just spent all the episodes distressed and feeling as nervous as the protagonist Kang Soo Jin, you simply take her pain for yourself and start to cheer so that everything works out for the protagonists. All the actors did a great job, the choice of cast was fantastic, the story is intense and the characters are captivating, either you love them or you hate them and the soundtrack is beautiful and calm.
I will surely re-watch this drama at some point in life and will probably cry watching it again. But, I confess that the ending could have been better, but that does not make the drama lose its value, this drama really was incredible and I do not regret having watched

I started this drama because I was at a place where I wanted a break from the rom-coms that I was used to watching with over the top characters. And I was not disappointed.

The drama hits a chord with me because it starts off with child abuse and how a parent will sometimes overlook and even participate in the abuse, something that is all too common in reality. We see how someone seemingly unrelated steps in and does what she can to try and help the child. The story was interesting and heart wrenching, but also heartwarming. I don't think any drama I've watched has ever made me cry as much as this one has.

The acting was superb. From the child actor to the more veteran actors, they were able to portray their characters perfectly, drawing me in to the story and making me feel as though I was watching a reality unfold right before my eyes.

The music, I can't really speak to it much, because I can't remember it. So I take that to mean that it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. There weren't any songs that resonated with me, but of course, everyone's tastes differ.

The re-watch value for me is low because of the impact watching this drama had on me emotionally and mentally. As I mentioned earlier, I spent a lot of time crying, because there weren't many triumphs in this show. There wasn't a lot of comedic relief, either. It's a very serious drama, portraying a very serious situation, which is something that I appreciate. I would definitely recommend this drama to anyone who wants to get away from the light, fluffy dramas, but for me, one watch was enough - I don't think I'll ever forget this one.

Ig it really does take a village (of mothers) to raise a kid

This might have the most perfect first episode of any Kdrama I've ever watched. Yoonbok reading off of her list of favorite things as... all that happens in the background is absolutely CHILLING and HORRIFYING like. Wow. Who is that child actress and has she received immense amount of therapy after being in this show? Like these types of stories are so so important and the message here is so beautiful, but I can't help but feel awful for the child actors who have to pretend to be in these situations it can't be healthy for them. But that being said, this actress acted her heart out as Yoonbok and it really pulls at your heartstrings like she's such a resilient kid who deserves the world. Good thing she has this private bird scientist to give her all the love she deserves. Park Boyoung gave the performance of a lifetime as Kang Soojin, a woman who's just trying to be a reclusive in Iceland but who ends up looking after Yoonbok. Her panic and determination at the end of the first episode is heart wrenching as she makes her decision to take Yoonbok with her and her dealing with her own mommy issues while trying to learn what motherhood really is and what to do with Yoonbok is so much. The tone of this show is really so odd but it works? It's like half police chase thriller and half family melodrama and the pieces weirdly really meld together. Lee Hyeyoung shines as always as Soojin's adoptive mother like I love seeing a character like her. She's a great mom who really cares for her children, but yeah she's a diva about to die and who has held back secrets from her kids their entire life. I love that, yeah, she's flawed and she's a diva who loves the fame, but at the same time just because she's like that and famous she's not a bad or absent mother like you would expect. UGH THIS SHOW. Also yeah Yoonbok and Soojin's dynamic is extremely touching OBSESSED with them they are such a perfect mother and daughter duo and despite how closed off Soojin is it's so easy to root for her like you so badly want to see her get to Iceland with Yoonbok safely and I love how even some of the policemen later in the show start to question if they even should catch her. This show balances a lot of a tricky subjects and does it all so well and its truly so heartfelt. And oh... The scene where the police finally catch up with Soojin and Yoonbok DESTOYED ME like yeah you know its inevitable but it hurts so badly to watch them screaming for each other as theyre separated. I'm glad they got their happy ending and the awful mother got what she deserved. And WDYM the evil bf was Son Seokkoo??? This mans range terrifies me but yeah his character was equally as terrifying what a terrible person truly. Anyway yeah I'm absolutely in love with this show and all of the messages of motherhood <3

Heartfelt story

I have not watched the orginal Japanese parent story and cannot offer comparisons.
However, I must say that this version is a masterpiece and an emotional rollercoaster. I was tearfull when I had watched the first episode but the drama had pulled me (which does not easily happen). The story offers different versions of motherhood in different context, which is what I mainly liked about it.

The acting was wonderfull on all parts. Many love Lee Bo Young and I can see why.
The OST where not that memorable but amplified the overall feeling of teh drama.
I have rewatched the drama and it still remains an amazing drama.

"Call Me Mother" was a great drama that covered so many things- in my opinion, perfectly with as much as they could in 16 eps. Child abuse, single mothers, adoption, trauma, this drama really took all of those themes and compiled them into a great piece that left me tearing up.

Heo Yool (Hye Na) is such a great child actress and she impressed me because it really is a hit or miss when it comes to children in my opinion. However, the actress showed that she really understood the role and performed as if she had felt to much pain herself. What I like about this drama is that it really did not make the child a child. It showed how a child isn't just this cute person who doesn't understand anything. In reality, children are the ones that may understand more than adults, or at least notice more than adults do.

I was also pleased with the topic of adoption and single mothers. Still, even in the US, there are prejudices when it comes to single mothers and I understand that there is also this prejudice in S.K along with adoption. Women who are single with a child are usually looked down upon, as if they are used goods and are not desired as much. I don't know if this is a personal experience, but I have witnessed these statements with conversations with people around me. This drama took a different route and showing that there is no shame in being a single mother. That it is possible to raise a child and it doesn't mean that it will be an unhappy ending. With adoption, I simply enjoyed the fact that they explained that adoptive mothers are also real mothers. It's as simple as that.

I thought this drama was done well, although the episodes were unnecessarily long- full of filler, but in the end it performed great.

I do recommend this drama if you want to smile and cry at the same time and just experience this road to motherhood in a unique way that will leave your heart racing.

i used to only watch romance dramas, but this drama proved me wrong. Although there was no / slightly romance involved between couples, The relationship between kang soo jin and kim hye na is amazing. It really portrayed the struggles the mother daughter pair had to go through, and it and showed the extent of how much a teacher would go just to save their students. Be prepared to have a stack of tissue with you as some episodes with leave you crying your eyeballs out.An extremely mature, heartwarming piece and the actresses and actors did a fantastic job displaying their roles!

It's brilliant and a well made drama... I didn't think I would shed much tears for a drama, But I did, Especially when climax hit the fan, it's so satisfying to watch each scene can be so memorable. It gives me another perspective being a mother, and take various point of view from children perspective about their feeling and their right, which often we take it for grant.

The most important think is This drama doesn't suddenly losing track from their original intent from start to the last frame . Which is hard for kdrama, with all the pressure to come all the way from the board (and PPL), the reason there are still live shooting system, in order to increase rating. Each scene and music is perfectly blend with the emotion, which make the drama feel passionate and alive. More over, thanks to The actor who give the character justice and set each line from the writers on fire, which make it all rewarding.

This kind of drama gave me all hope to Kdrama once again, once in a while, in industry where everything produced by people who only produce a drama to work and making money. in a deem light, there is always bunch of people who will produce a drama with their soul and give their all to produce a memorable drama from the cast to the crew.... Being nominated in Cannes Festival ? Well deserved. Thank you all....
