Five short stories of life's joys and sorrows are brought together in this omnibus drama film. "The World Is Sometimes Beautiful" Noeda is 38 years old and has lived in Tokyo for 19 years. For 11 years now, she has been working as a nude model for a painting class. She fell ill late last year, and as her body started withering away towards death, she accepted it. However, when Noeda sees a picture of herself as a model in her cafe, she happily recalls what the painter said to her: "You made me draw it." "Barfly" Osaka is a middle-aged man who went drinking from bar to bar almost every day, and before he knew it, he had drunk himself into homelessness. Everyday, he quickly cleanses himself in a public bath and goes out into the city every night, hurting his mind, body and wallet. To fill his sadness, he ends the night drinking again. One night, he sat down by a construction site with another man who told him: "If you close your eyes and lose consciousness, it will be tomorrow." Morning will come again. "Her Favorite Loneliness" Mayumi is lying naked on the bed in her room with her lover Kunio after making love. The two exchange rambling conversations, but somehow they don't get along.
