Whiteout is a big budget Japanese action thriller where in his home country, the most successful film from year to season, he can act quite differently from many others in a totally independent way. This is mainly due to his script, which has some amazing stories to offer, though not always reliable, but overall much smarter and more serious than normal. From a formal point of view, the Whiteout is simply the top staged so consistently at any time constantly holds the tension. Another advantage in this regard are the sets. The imposing dam, perfect for some mind-boggling action scenes, and the barren winter and mountain scenery contribute to the film's impact, but fail in other aspects mainly in the poorly covered story.
