Not a fan of the ending
7/10 is my rating. This is a 2019 South Korean drama with 40 episodes. Each episode is 30 minutes. Uhm Da-da (Bang Min-ah) decides to interact with a humanoid robot named Zero Nine/Young-goo (Yeo Jin-goo) as the ideal boyfriend. Da-da is a special effects make-up artist who has been burned by love to the extent that she feels her heart cannot take any more. Her past boyfriend, Ma Wang-jun (Hong Jong-hyan) is not sure he is done with their relationship but Uhm Da-da may be over the mercurial nature of human emotions and the stability of unwavering love may be more her style. Or is it?Spoiler ? I liked this series at the beginning. It was fun to get insight on the life of a special effects makeup artist. I love movies around artificial intelligence as it is our immediate future. I liked the relationship between the leads and this is one where I did not feel bad, at all, for 2nd guy. The end completely spoiled it for me as I felt like evil won the day. There is a maybe moment at the end but you really cannot tell for sure who it is she sees. I like happy well wrapped up endings. This ending is neither. I feel irritated every time I see the title or images because it could have been good but was destroyed by a horrible ending.

Eternal Love
I have watched I Am Robot and Are You Human Too and what made me stick to watch till the end is enjoying the kdrama that is written and meant for us to enjoy.This is what made me enjoy watching My Absolute Boyfriend too. The story shows us how love overtime could wane, becomes a nuisance and eventually a source of frustrations and annoyance, sometimes a deterrent to our dreams and ambitions and here comes a robot that promises to give in to all our dating wants and desires sans the actual physical aspect I guess but will be there on your beck and call. He fills in for an absentee boyfriend and in the end succeeds in making her girlfriend fall for him. A loving and loyal companion. Who wouldn't fall for that specially for a girl that loves so much and must have to contend with what is little attention thrown her way from her famous boyfriend.
But should we really succeed to programme love according to our wants and needs? Then we will fail having to measure all of that all the time. We end up being lonely.
Like watching kdramas, I don't want to rate or rant about it once I decide to watch (I like the plot, I love the actors, I like the set and scenery, the OST keeps me humming the songs all day) and then like Alice in Wonderland I enter the story and let it grow in me, I laugh, I cry, and get happy. Why would I want to change anything in it.
I have never let reviews stop me to watch kdramas. I don't even read them. I can name a number of underrated dramas I watched that has given me the most satisfying experience. There are those I watch then stop then drop then watch again and to my surprise it becomes one of my favorite. Then I realized it's not about what can sway me to watch or not but my own judgement my genrousity to like it or not.
And My Absolute Boyfriend did not disappoint me and see how every episode would lead me to a love worthy of all memories. So I watched it.
Like love and life every day is a surprise. Live it.

Bang Min Ah is the best thing about this drama
It was a nice drama, and Bang Min Ah really did a stellar job. She gave this performance her all. Personally, though, I like when robots behave more like robots. Being a bit expressionless. monotone and a little stiff, kinda like Aji-3 in I'm not a Robot. Where they look human, but if you look closely, you can tell there's something odd about their behavior.Also, the villain story line was very weak and utterly dumb and pointless. She was there just for the sake of being an antagonist. Boring and annoying, really.
All in all, this drama was super cute and had its sweet moments, but towards the end I found myself losing interest. I just think they made it too long and dragged things out too much. It probably would have been better if they'd stuck to the usual 16 episodes run-time (or 32 in this case).
Still, if you like fluff and adorable male leads are your thing, I think you'll enjoy this drama.

A lot more “popular” dramas are worse than this...
This may not have one of the most cohesive and solid plots out there but there are a lot more “popular” dramas that are worse than this...I don’t get the hate, really...but I do get the frustration because I am frustrated with the lost potential of the story - even the performance of the actors can be easily overlooked because of this.I honestly believe this drama would have had a more solid storyline if it was just 16 episodes long (as compared to 20 episodes). The reason I gave this a chance even after the gruesome episodes 13 and 14 experience was because of how adorable Zero Nine was, Yeo Jin Goo never fails his fans with how talented he is at portraying and owning his characters...but even my love for him barely made me continue watching as I have decided to stop agonizing myself if episode 15 was as unbearable to watch...surprisingly, the story went back to its natural and original flow and that’s how I got to finish this drama (with an active choice to forget about how episodes 13 and 14 ruined its potential).
I honestly loved how the story built the love line between the main characters; it wasn’t forced in any way - it was realistic, relatable, and surprisingly natural. I loved the adorable robot but I couldn’t find myself rooting for their love at the beginning (obviously) whilst knowing how inevitable their separation would be, but the story had me going with its flow and mesmerized me with the natural development of their feelings for each other (how astonishing it might be for a robot to become self-aware, yet the one amazing thing in this drama was how they effectively integrated this in the story).
Yes, I ended up tearing my very own logical and rational mind apart - throwing away all reason and just asking the writer/director to let the main couple be happy, robot and all, I didn’t care anymore. That’s why, although I wouldn’t be able to recommend this drama to other people if you aren’t an avid fan of any of the cast or if you care so much about the cohesiveness of the plot (like me), but I also won’t let other people call this trash without even trying to watch past the prejudice this drama is getting. Because compared to other “popular” dramas, this actually left more of an impression.
This drama did RomCom justice, the cringe it gives you isn’t sappy - it actually leaves you giddy. Just that the writer/director weren’t able to give the plot and the cast proper justice - it was the engaging talents of the actors which saved the whole show. This drama had a whole lot of amazing potential, I tell you, and if you take away episodes 13 and 14 (or at least made better use of the scenes here), it would’ve spared this drama from a lot of criticisms and judgments.

the overly cliche mean girl/nice guy light romcom = 7
the middle part that should've been the ending which was around ep20? = 10
and the last draggy part, literally the last 8 eps were the same = 1 but since there is a cut vr I won't count this
the end = 7?
so I guess that rounds it all to 8? 7.5? ;)
it didn't need 20 (40)eps, it would been perfect if it ended by ep 16 (32)...
my rewatch values are either a 1 or a 10...

A bit of a cliche storyline but amazing acting from the cast
I still remember how 10 plus years ago I came across this manga in a bookstore - 絶対彼氏. It seemed like nothing special and yet it got me curious . In 2008, the Japanese tv version was aired, and I loved how they portrayed the characters, only that it was a sad ending for Night Tenjou. It was followed by the Chinese version which had me sorely disappointed due to the bad casting.The Korean version was aired this year and boy, was I excited. I am surprised with their choice of male lead for Zero Nine. Even more surprised that it is the adult version of the boy who acted in The Moon Embracing the Sun. Yeo Jin Goo did such a stellar job on this one, even though Jong Hyun made him look a bit on the short side. The cast was solid for this masterpiece and the Koreans had more development on the plot as compared to the Chinese. Being a fan of Zettai Kareshi, the Korean version just reminded me why a decade ago I loved this series. Yeo Jin Goo acted very well as a naive robot, whose only purpose is to love. There is amazing chemistry between him and Min-Ah.
The highly evil character in this show (Diana) portrayed by Hong Seo Young was just amazing. The resting btch face aside, her acting convinced you that she is a born psychopath who's lonely and delights in torturing robots. I like how this is such a romantic and light-hearted drama which slowly climbs onto a climax (Zero nine is melting down ...). The romance between Nam Bo Won and Yeo Woong is crazily funny as well. I think the best acting in this show apart from Jin Goo has to be that of Sung Won (Nam Bo Won). As the drama draws to an end, I do hope for once that Zero Nine gets to survive??? The Zettai Kareshi I know has a normal romance storyline, cliche even. But yet the interaction between a human and her love for a mere robot is no doubt touching. This version of ZK is the best I have watched yet. I would recommend those who love a lighthearted romance and who would like to find the meaning of love to watch this show. I like the casting because they showed that love has no boundaries and it does not merely look upon one's looks or nature to be loved.

Choosing AI Love
I didn't think I would enjoy this drama as much as I did. Unlike a lot of people, I actually found the FL to be both relatable and a round character. I was rooting for her, as I was rooting for the ML, as well as the SML.The SML took the FL for granted, and made his popularity and career the main focus of his life, Which then led to him neglecting her, and being a bad boyfriend. That wasn't something that made me hate him though. He had depth of character, and ended up seeing the error of his ways. The FL was coming to grips with falling for a non-human, who would have possibly ended up loving anyone who found themselves accidently kissing him awake, somehow. ? She had very understandable reason for not accepting the AI love of the most beautiful man.... robot, I mean, on the planet.
I didn't find the FL annoying as others have. I found her strong-minded and relatable, and although maybe clumsy at times, she was more interesting of a character than the stereotypical K-drama FL. I did find myself skipping parts in the story about the scientists who made the robot, and I did drop it once, but then picked it up again later, mostly on account of SML and FL interaction, which is what I enjoyed the most.
