Taiyo, a 16-year-old high school boy and his two best friends Taguchi and Kobayashi, decide to spend their summer, completely free from their parents, at Taguchi's vacation house in Shonan, a coastal city couple of hours away from Tokyo. When they arrive, they are astounded by the vast expanse of the ocean, and also enthralled by the surfers riding the dynamic waves. When the boys arrive at the vacation house, Taguchi realizes he has dropped the house key at the beach. Panicked, the three go back to the beach looking for it, but eventually fall asleep on the beach exhausted. Next morning, Taiyo and his friends are awakened by a bare-naked middle-aged stranger, Duke Kawahara. Duke offers the boys to stay in his house if they help clean and run his surf shop. Taiyo proposes they would only help if Duke teaches the boys how to surf. Duke agrees. Meanwhile, Taiyo meets a beautiful local surfer girl, Julia while tending Duke's shop. The excitement and thrill of surfing and bitter-sweet first love, Taiyo and his friends' summer have just begun!! Edit Translation

I'd give it a 9 just because I got to see Haruma at the beginning of his career, hearing Haruma's adorable voice when he was still so young is enough for me (I highly recommend it, if you're a fan of Miura Haruma) but I should give a decent review anyway.

If you're looking for one of those simple calming Japanese movies that make your heart content, then this is probably your movie.
I'm not sure, but I think that you would appreciate this movie a lot more, if you have surfed before or if you like surfing, because that's what the movie is all about. Nevertheless, the movie did make me want to surf, because that's how beautiful and well executed it was. It's a movie that totally absorbs you into Summer atmosphere! I also liked how you can really feel Taiyo's heartfelt fresh love for surfing and how cute he was being serious about it. All the surfing aside, the three best-friends are pretty fun to watch, how should I say it...It's like, you feel like you want enjoy the summer with them too, or something like that. For the story I gave it a 7 because the actual events were a bit overdone, but I still enjoyed watching it. Over all, I say give it a try and I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did!

Note: Make sure you keep watching after the credits in the end ;)
