My Moochy Boyfriend looked like a good drama. Comedy, check, good actor, check, based on a manga, check. However, the story was simply over the top. The leading lady could not be THAT forgiving!! She was trying to change Sho, her boyfriend, but it was clear that she was failing, as she was pulling back at the last minute and just overspoiled him. On the other hand, Sho, even though he loved her, he was not even willing to change.... So, why stay together? At least, there were some fun moments and they looked good as a couple. But, Masataka Kubota could have picked a better role. He is not my favourite actor, but I can at least admit that he is good. And this character just felt less. The girl was extra cute! Kind of saved the drama for me. Finally, the comedy scenes were handled well and they didn't look rushly made or fake, though the events were clearly too over the top to actually happen... Overall, 6 out of 10.

I can't stand watching this

Yuriko is a hard worker, she's a nurse I bet she's smart enough to judge something, but not for Sho. In this drama you'll see how troublesome Sho is and how troublesome their relationship. Sho only thinks about getting money from an easy way, a liar, overproud, dense, and doesn't even do chores. He'd bring problems to Yuriko, asking money around 1000-2000yen for a simple thing to Yuriko, is he a child tho? And at this moment I also think that Yuriko doesn't have a good financial plan. Plus she has to work for herself AND for Sho. Japan's living cost is high enough and a nurse is quite busy in hospital, to think that she still have the idea to pay for Sho.

Also, she's hoping that Sho would change but she keeps supporting almost every of his lazy act. Yuriko is too forgiving, usually girls aren't that forgiving when she's mad, they'll bring up the past. But in Yuriko's case, she only let Sho leave outside the bedroom. Love does makes people stupid but they still understand how to survive, but Yuriko? I don't know. She should know that relationships builds with lies will only bring lies in the future.

Anyway aside from the relationship, there are some comedy in this drama. The part with Doctor Ikeme is funny especially. But some part with Sho trying to avoid his problem, OR trying to solve the problem he made making him looks cool, I can only feel angry towards him lol. Yuriko's oneesan also doesn't give them enough reason to end their relationship eventhough she opposed them and this drama making her looks strict also. But when she's facing Sho's reasoning, she becomes softer even if there're some part that doesn't make sense. But, the cast' acting is very good here, I really appreciate it.

Overall if you're curious about a realtionship with a jobless man and with a too forgiving and blinded with love person like Yuriko, you'd might want to watch this.

Is this drama supposed to show us something more? Should I delve deeper or should I just take it as a light stupid comedy? That’s the feeling I get during this whole drama.

The pacing is good, the acting is good, the timing and writing of the comedy is good, the atmosphere, camera work, the music, everything is so nice, sometimes even better than some high profile J-dramas. But, what’s with this overly stupid, annoying, over the top characterization of the two main lead? It’s just so unbelievable how stupid they are.

But somehow, it kinda get me thinking about the so called NEET problem they have in Japan. Is this series supposed to make people see how awful a NEET is and deter you to be one? It surely get me thinking how I’d hate it so much to be as useless as the male lead or as stupid as the female lead. D*mn, it even made me want to show it to my kids in the future to prevent them from being like that 😅.

Kubota’s acting is as great as usual it got me wonder, did he just picked the wrong script? Or was the movie really supposed to have an important message like I said before? I like all the supporting characters: Dr. Ikeme, the FL colleagues, the izakaya owner.. it’s only.. it’s only.. the stupidity of the two main lead!!

But as annoying as they are, I enjoyed the series and kinda get some lesson out of it. If you could open your mind to throw away all expectation about how gender should play what role in society, there’s a chance you can enjoy this drama.
