My two passions : Jesus Christ and fighting.
S01 : 3,5/5
S02 : 2,5/5

S01 : Super funny, although a bit old-fashioned in its staging, which is too functional. This collection of zany characters never misses a beat, they are all prodigiously silly. The villains' henchmen behave like bored children waiting for the school bus. I love this kind of Conan O'Brien humour. (I'll try to forget all the diarrhoea jokes, though)

Kim Nam-gil is so cool. He fights really well, the action isn't neglected at all, and he's so funny ! I didn't know he had this comedic side to his acting. "God gave me the gift of dealing with scum like you, not forgiving them." What a man!

But what about the role of the fat guy who eats all the time ? The answer is clear : no, don't. And actor Ahn Chang-hwan, playing a Thai migrant with an exaggerated, grotesque accent and a high-pitched voice, is perfectly Korean from Korea. It's on a par with Apu in The Simpsons... I've seen enough Thai films and series to know that people don't talk like that over there.
On the other hand, Kim Nam-gil dresses up as a woman (episode 11. And he'll do it again next season) and it's not a comic or demeaning device, he acts 'normally'. He wears a suit in the colours of the transgender flag, by the way. This is probably not a random choice, given that Korean Catholics are particularly reactionary and fight with all their might against LGBT+ rights. We want more Father Kims in the clergy and fewer transphobes.
In episode 15, the prosecutor plays golf and wears a badge that says "bon coup" in French. It doesn't mean what you might think.
And then, at the beginning, we are introduced to a psychiatrist, who later reappears shrouded in mystery, only to never be mentioned again. This character was introduced for no reason. Strange.

S02 : Dear K-drama writers, can you spare us these endless eating scenes ? Please. For God's sake. Or at least make an effort with the sound. You don't talk with your mouth full ! Bad manners. Literally, every other scene involves copious swallowing !

This season follows the same formula of action and humour, with much more slapstick and gesticulation. And shouting, unfortunately. Not really my thing. It gets on my nerves at times. A show that was rather silly has now become downright mind-numbing.
In addition, the lore expands and proves to be more coherent than that of John Wick. The production, meanwhile, follows the evolution of Korean series and their standards, with much more polished staging than the first season. We are even treated to a single-take sequence shot in episode 1 where the heroes fight on several floors of a building. Well done, Father Kim. You're kicking ass like Jesus drove the merchants out of the Temple. What's more, episode 3 has a scene shot from a subjective point of view. They're trying new things.

That said... this season struggles to match the first in terms of pace and humour. It's a bit boring with all these pointless conversations between the antagonists. Twelve episodes in, and in the sixth one we're still being told how bad we are ? Great, I don't care, guys. Nine episodes before anything really happens in terms of the plot. After a while, we couldn't care less about your stories.

I like Bibi, she rocks, she sings, she acts, okay, okay, but where's Keum Sae-Rok ? Where is she ? Free Keum Sae-Rok.

Given the radical change in cinematography and acting, I don't think I'll be watching any more of this director's productions because he's clearly just putting his name on other people's work.

Great Story... but Mixed Feelings

This show gives me a mixed feelings since is a bit rollercoaster for me. The whole story is good, but at some point it's quite draggy and frustrating. The amount of comedy is less on the first half, but it's getting better as the show progressing. However I feel like the comedy is slapstick-ish, and maybe not suitable enough for 2025.

The story itself is bound to be good from the beginning: a priest who are willing to take down a whole corrupt cartel. I like the writing that every party is trying to be cautious and tactical. Even a small poke from Father Kim Hae Il can cause a distrust between the alliance. It is nice that we can see that everyone tries to make their own strategy to save their live, begin to switch alliance and even scapegoating their allies. All is a good storywriting until the writer brought character Lee Jung Gwon. Every actions that follows is just spontaneous and impulsive anger, all without any concrete plan. It loses the beauty of the writing by then. Also they should perhaps end it at 16 because the story about Lee Jung Gwon escapes from the custody and seeks for revenge is extremely draggy. How come NO ONE notices his escape? All the episodes after this event are like another show.

I have no problems with the main characters, they all great and played by a great casts. Park Gyeong Seon has a quite consistent personality. Usually, writers like to drastically switch a character personality from goofy to evil in an action comedy show. However, Gyeong Seon is quite consistently an annoying prosecutor throughout the show. Even Hwang Cheol Beom has a great personality depiction: he's smart, bad ass, determined, just extremely lack of luck. However, the writer doesn't really consistent with some other characters. The writer has forgotten that Seo Seung Ah was once a 'hip-hop girl', and Gu Dae Yeong's past trauma disappeared like dust too easily. Jung In Ki, on the other hand, is very bad as Chief Nam. He looks like only has one face expression the whole show.

The fact that Park Gyeong Seon keeps meeting the alliance members in private after being threatened several times really distrubs me. She always works in the background, but once she is needed to show in front, she always comes without any plan.

If you want some actions and comedies, this show is quite recommended. But beware because the analytical hero is slowly being replaced by a ruthless warrior.

Watched it for Kim Nam Gil, but loved all of them!!

In the same industry that delivers some amazing heart racing mystery thrillers and revenge dramas, here comes a daily soap which is lead by this fiery priest.
To be honest, the only and only reason to complete this one is Kim Nam Gil. I had dropped it once, but still watched it now and for some reason, I am not completely disappointed. It should really be mentioned that the story has plotholes, some basics missed that will at least irk you, and the biggest reason- It is a slow poke. Like real slow.
The story kind of really starts from ep 13, where you can finally see things happening that should have happened at ep 6 maybe.
But still, it is funny af. And I guess it is very similar to daily soap, so I am supposed to assume that there will be some nonsense.
I did take something from the drama, apart from the satisfaction of watching Kim Nam Gil-
That forgiving others is not something you do for others, it is something you do for yourself. But, this is definitely not that the cost of justice.
All the main leads are veteran actors who flawlessly bring this somewhat unfit piece to shine.
P.S- If you really need a reason to watch this, just pick any actor/actress you biase on, and stick to the determination of completing for them.

There is a lot of poop in this drama.

This drama is good for a light fun time...with some dark corruption themes mixed in because Kdrama....and occasional ass explosions peppered here and there to keep things real. I especially enjoyed the comedy and character development. Hands down, the best part about Kdramas like this is that every minor character gets their moment in the sun, everyone gets their turn to be a hero. You go into it hating certain bad guys (or sometimes good guys if they're too pompous) and you come out of it liking almost everyone in the end. The bobbed haircut dude was so funny, the little Thai dude was hilarious, even the bread eating space enthusiast was super fun to watch. But hands down the best performance was from the female lead. She's so so so pretty but man can she do weird things with her face. She's over the top dramatic and I loved the scenes at the beginning when she's amping up the macho to fit in with the gross old dudes. The ML was great as well, he had a lot of emotional range... but the FL really outshines just about everyone in this drama.

The action scenes were pretty well done, I really liked the female cop flying through the air to swat a bad guy, though I was annoyed she always got knocked down eventually. Like ok, I get it, she's the rookie apprentice level fighter and she had to get knocked down for the priest dude to save the day...but still, I'd have liked to see her to get to kick some solid ass more frequently. The priest dude action scenes were well done, the humorous ones were especially fun to watch. The only times I was not impressed by the action scenes is when they clearly filmed the shots in much slower motion and then very obviously sped them up to the point where they looked unrealistic. This mostly happened at the end.

The only minor complaint I have is that some smaller plot points had a lot of screen time initially but never went anywhere. I won't give too many examples, because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone who reads this, but the main dropped plot point imo was the impetus for the sidekick cop dude to look the other way. Like it's a thing for many many episodes, and then suddenly it's just not a thing. I get that was part of his redemption arc, but the threat of specific people being harmed that kept him off the straight and narrow just vanished as well. Like clearly the bad guys used the threat effectively for years, so why do they just drop the issue when little cop dude starts popping a doggo mask to take them all down?

Overall it was a really solid drama and good for a comedy watch (with a few tears sprinkled in for dramatic effect). I might watch this again in a few years, there wasn't a lot of mystery or puzzles to figure out, so there's nothing that would really be spoiled for me in rewatching it. While I tend to not rewatch dramas ever, the really fun comedies can be exceptions. For anyone thinking I rated this drama low, for me scores of 7 and higher are pretty decent dramas. To get a 10 you'd have to be epic. This drama was good and well done, but not epic. Which is ok, not every drama has to be a 10 right!

Am I missing something?

Looking at all the other reviews, I felt compelled to say something. Not because I agree, but quite the opposite. I feel like everyone saying they lost their minds laughing at this show is in on a secret that I've not been told. Or, they watched another version of this show than I have.

I went into this drama so desperately wanting to like it. I'm on episode 11, and I still feel that way, although less so, because I'm mentally giving up hopes. The humor falls so flat 99% of the time. For a show that is marked as a comedy, I sure haven't laughed much at all since I started this. It's not even the poop humor that bothers me; I watched (and loved) the first season of Sound of Your Heart that was filled with jokes like that. It just feels like the writers set the cast up with a great lead-up and then gave them a terrible punchline that misses the mark, every single time.

The acting is done well, no complaints on that front. I know it's cliche with the priest being someone that can do every single thing perfectly, but I don't really mind that as much, just wish the execution was better. The juxtaposition of a high-tempered priest working with a timid and subservient detective sounds very interesting on paper, but it takes like half the show for anything interesting to actually happen with that dynamic. The slow burn is real.

The story feels unnecessarily long, with the underdogs vs. the villains going in circles non-stop. At this point, if the villains winning makes it a shorter story, I'm ready to accept that. I don't hate this show and I'll see it through (mostly because of Kim Nam-gil), but I so badly wish the writers tried more instead of trying to cash in on a priest whose comedy 90% of the time is screaming loudly (which was funny at first but is now getting old).

Oh, but props to the music director. The priest's theme is catchy, and who can forget "HONEY HONEY"

Action and Comedy all-in-one!

I absolutely love the whole cast—their acting is superb! Nam Gil and Lee Hanee did an amazing job, along with the side characters. They really carried and executed the show so well. Also, I love how this Korean drama has everything you could ask for—except romance (don’t hate me, but I did ship Nam Gil and Lee Hanee for a hot second HAHAHAHA). The energy of the characters was incredible, and they portrayed their roles perfectly. I’m definitely watching Season 2 soon! Aja!

WHAT A MASTERPIECE!! Deserves SO MUCH more recognization!

I never thought I would start watching this drama and like it, but I was totally surprised, it became one of my favorites, if you like Vincenzo, this drama is totally for you, and if you have never watched it and are looking for something similar? Watch Vincenzo haha.

Father Kim is a unique priest, with a secret in his past, he ended up becoming a priest to try to leave the past behind, but this ended up leaving some "marks" on his personality, he likes to take justice into his own hands. It made me laugh a lot during each episode, I never thought I would see a crazy priest, who screams in the middle of mass, screams outside of it, punches others, acts like a gangster sometimes LOL.

An excellent revenge drama without weighing down the script, without leaving a tense atmosphere at all times. It manages to balance very well between action, comedy, moments of tension and MORE comedy lol.

The secondary characters that end up becoming the priest's "gang" are wonderful too, well developed, unique, and end up becoming irreplaceable over time.

Just watch this with an open mind and heart and I guarantee you will be very surprised, The Fiery Priest is proof that a drama does not need romance to be good, and I am a person who loves romance and rarely watches anything without romance, definitely a 10/10 for me.

It’s a blast with substance.

The Fiery Priest is one of those dramas that knows exactly what it wants to be—and goes all in. It’s loud, bold, hilarious, and surprisingly heartfelt when it needs to be. I didn’t expect to care this much about a hot-headed priest punching his way through corruption, but here we are.

Kim Nam-gil absolutely owns this role. His performance walks a perfect line between ridiculous comedy and raw intensity. One moment he’s quoting the Bible, the next he’s unleashing righteous fury in a full-on action scene—and somehow, it works. The supporting cast is strong too, with quirky characters that feel fun and lived-in, not just filler.

What really sold me, though, is how well the drama balances tone. The comedy lands (a lot), but it never undercuts the serious moments. The themes of justice, forgiveness, and fighting evil without losing your soul are handled better than you'd expect from such a chaotic show. It slows down a little near the middle, and some gags stretch a bit long, but overall, it’s a blast with substance.

Pros:
✔ Kim Nam-gil is unforgettable in the lead role
✔ Great mix of humor, action, and heart
✔ Unique plot with strong moral undercurrents
✔ Colorful supporting characters that add to the chaos

Cons:
✘ Some repetitive comedy beats
✘ Mid-series pacing could’ve been tighter

Would I rewatch? Absolutely—especially the action scenes and iconic rants. It’s rare to find something this fun and meaningful.
