Ryoko is a 34-year-old woman living in the suburbs of a provincial city. She lives with her husband Tadashi, elementary school aged son Hiroshi and mother-in-law Kazuko. Her husband is a painter. Ryoko's family looks like an ideal family from afar, but Ryoko is miserable due to her physically abusive husband. Tadashi has lost his desire to create.
