I picked this up not only because it was subbed by a trusted subber (thank you aoihachi!) -and by "trusted" I mean I know this subber will finish the subbing, but also because I've watched the TFP episode where the 3 leads guested, and I loved their team spirit, which is reflected again in the drama and it is one of the highlights of the show.

This is a fun, light show, there are no villains, it is a slice of life, involving music, friendship and romance. The beautiful "Air" by Bach is a wonderful companion throughout the drama, and it is also a big part of the plot. There is a character development in all characters, from Yaeko-san, Rihito-kun and Yukie (the 3 main leads). For their relationship alone, I love the entire drama, but all in all, even the romance was sweet and fun and far from corny or believable. Thank God there was a chemistry between Haru and Taishi, and in spite of the 7-8 years gap, it wasn't obvious at all since Taishi does look older than in his twenties.

Even the OP song was cute.. I love all of it :)

Completely relatable and moving drama for a 20-something art student like me! :)

As an avid Asian drama and film lover, I particularly love how Japanese dramas really nail that "human-ness" and portray the relatable emotions that we experience in our daily lives. In regards to that, I don't think I've been hit quite as hard in the feels by any other drama or film since "G-Senjou."

While I don't agree AT ALL about the fact that this drama has a general ranking on here of 7.9/10 (come on!!!) - I understand how some people may just not relate to the feelings and lives of the characters in this drama. **SPOILERS AHEAD**

Yaeko, an almost 30 year old OL (Office Lady) who quit her job and was cheated on by her fiancé. Yukie, a stay-at-home mother/wife/ daughter-in-law who constantly pastes a smile on her face and works hard at home, taking care of her cheating husband, younger daughter, and nagging mother-in-law. Rihito, a student who is secretly in love with his brother's ex. These three characters, who meet by chance at a violin class for adults, form an unlikely friendship in this drama. Together, they navigate struggles of love (familial, romantic, and unconditional), career, family, and what it means to be an adult.

They KNOW that they're not professional violinists, and that when their lives get busier, this class will be the first thing they stop. So why do it? Why continue? Why waste their time, money, and energy into this class when it's just a hobby?

To me - a 20-something art student who has multiple artistic hobbies (including a love for piano) - this drama was like a breath of fresh air. I constantly battle with others' questions as to why I'm wasting my time/energy on hobbies that don't specifically advance my career. Many think that artistic jobs aren't valuable compared to more "practical" jobs like finance or business. Most people don't seem to care about others when they're at their lowest point, and urge them to "get over it" when the said person is still grieving. At the end of the day, we all struggle to achieve one thing - happiness. And happiness is comprised of the little moments of our lives. They don't necessarily have to give us "value," or make us more employable. It's doing things we love. For our three protagonists, their relationship they made through their violin class made them happy. It gave them the motivation to keep living on - and this is what this drama stresses.

In the words of Yaeko: "While we were all lost at sea, the thing that saved us was this little buoy named music."
(it's not word for word but you get what I mean!)

While others may have seen Yaeko as childish at times, I could 100% relate to her worries of people disappearing from her life, as they move on and she stays in the same place. My only small complaint is when she began to push Rihito away and doubt herself due to their 8-year age difference, but trust me, the final episode completely dissolved any annoyances I had - AND EVEN AT HER LOWEST POINT, her feelings were still understandable and valid. If I were her, I would also have similar worries, but as a viewer, I just wanted them to hurry up and kiss dammit!!! (and I wasn't disappointed).

I also recognized qualities of other people I know in the characters of Yukie and Rihito. Especially Yukie, who chose to forgive her husband for cheating and stay with him after he apologized (something I could never do), struck a chord with me, as realistically, not everyone leaves their marriages. I thought that was a believable touch to the drama though I didn't /love/ her end choice. She was by far the strongest character in the series.

I laughed, cried, and kicked giddily in the air at the romance between Rihito and Yaeko. And while some other reviewers may complain about the lack of romance, I feel like there was just enough. This drama was NOT just about the romance. It was about relationships and friendships (and this is coming from someone who EXCLUSIVELY watches romance dramas). It was about what connects and bonds people. And I 100% wish that I will someday have a bond as amazing with someone as Yaeko, Yukie, and Rihito did.

TL;DR 100% recommend for all the warm, giddy emotions. 10/10 Taishi Nakagawa is a cutie pie. I love the ending ahhhh! #RewatchMaterial

I watched this drama because I miss seeing Nakagawa Taishi in all his youthful glory (his face changed lately), so I didn’t really expect anything. But this is such a warm drama with surprisingly funny lines.

From the first episode, the story and the lines captivated me, it didn’t look like it’s gonna be funny, but soon I found myself giggled and LOLed, the comedy is not over the top at all, it’s more like funny writing.

The casting are so so good, this is the first time I see Haru in leading role, I never put too much attention to her, but she is good here. So so adorable. All the cast here are so so good looking, but in a daily simple way. Nakagawa Taishi was the reason I started this drama and boy, he didn’t disappoint. I really like it when he played naturally, it’s really different from when he played a comedy character with manga-ish acting (bokukoi, oyabaka). He was so handsome here.

The song.. to be honest, I don’t really dig the OST on this drama, but the G-senjou song really stuck in my head, I love it!

All in all, this is a good good romcom, don’t miss it!

G線上のあなたと私

This drama is about Yaeko (she has the same name as my mother) who is an OL girl and wants to get married, her fiance dumps her with another woman and she gets depressed. yaeko san loses her job and her boyfriend, while crying she hears "Air on the G String" playing live in a shopping mall. The song inspires her to enroll in a violin class for adults. There she meets university student Rihito and housewife Yukie san,all 3 become best friends and they play the violin in class and practise always together. Rihito is in love with their violin teacher but gets dumped. Then he matures feelings for Yaeko san and they start dating. This drama is amazing, fullfilled with laughter, sadness but also shows you how to move on in life.

" You and I on the G String " was an okay drama.

The story was nice and cozy, first of all. The music theme was interesting and the way they presented the violin lessons was fresh and clean, not too tiring or boring, so the story concentrated more on the slice of life. The three characters were pretty interesting too. Their stories were warm and had nice family dynamics. However, the romance that was added to the story, though it was okay, it didn't really work because the chemistry wasn't that good, as they seemed more like friends than lovers. Probably the few romantic scenes didn't help with it either.

So, overall, seven out of ten.

A really cute show!

I was hesitant to watch this show when it first aired, and only started it recently. And it did not disappoint! All my fav elements were in it - music (particularly classical genre), slice of life, romance, friendships, family. It's a really heart warming drama that I binged in 2 days.

I love it so much, that I considered watching it again. No doubt it has a slow pace in romance, but I don't mind at all as they dived into character development for each character. I love that a lot. It is those realistic growth potrayed and it inspired me a lot to work hard in my life too.

Anyway, to conclude, do give it a chance and try it if you are into fluffy and slow romance - there's it, and also music! Good ost and also classics~

feeling stuck? take up the violin and then cry everyone a river

I'm not sure what it is exactly about this series, but I found myself re-watching it a few times. It's not the most eventful storyline. There's not any clear point to it ... and nothing about it will blow your mind.

Though that's not to say there isn't any point to it in the way of meaning or messaging. I think for anybody who might be in a limbo phase of their lives or struggling to find progress and move forward in certain ways, there is something about this series that is relatable. Some may find the main characters annoying, and I definitely did. Even so, there was something about them as the series developed and their growing dynamic that was weirdly reassuring as it went on. At the end of the day though, it wasn't the strongest writing.

The romance was a bit weird; mostly because there was ZERO chemistry. They didn't seem to hit the mark with the main couple, but I liked the idea of what they were ... kind of TRYING ... to get at. In the natural/comfortable/non-linear progression of friends-turned-lovers sort of thing. The concept wasn't executed nearly as well as it could have been. You did feel the friendship and appreciation between the two leads grow over the years they know each other. Because it spanned so much time, it wasn't too weird conceptually (though still a little weird). Despite the age gap, they were both pretty dang immature. The chemistry was nonexistent and felt forced. It really only came off somewhat believable from the male lead--not at all from the female lead. The acting played off more awkwardly than not with the romance, but they all portrayed the friendship between them well.

I think the friendship between the three mains was the highlight of it all. Something about the series was cathartic in watching the three of them work through each of their roadblocks and bonding through it all. I felt like the characters (even side characters) were able to work through all their pain points & tie off all their loose ends (eventually) pretty thoroughly. It wasn't a perfectly ideal tying up of loose ends, but it was ideal in the sense that every issue was touched on more or less. The development was true to life in that it was a very gradual progression that worked out naturally, & I guess something about that was oddly pacifying.

The female lead is one of those where the acting was difficult for me at times. So annoying and whiney. If there was just a bit more character development and scripting to support her -- and if she wasn't played off as such an immature, blubbery, crybaby mess -- it might have been pretty decent. It just wasn't balanced well, but again I suppose they were trying to display the 'limbo' anxiety or something? Maybe I just didn't like the acting.

Overall--I wasn't a fan of the pity party leads, but it wasn't a total waste of time. It's definitely not something that's worth going out of your way to watch or expect much out of, but if you're stuck in a rut and working through those ups and downs it might be an okay show to meander through.
