8/10
Personally, I've been a big fan of the 3rd season. I was really impressed with how the producers have handled each cases, as well as the chemistry between the two varity kings, He Jiong and Benny Sa. As soon as I've heard of the rumors of Angel Wang and Wei Daxun's return, I was even more excited for this season's production. Due to the amount of expenses for renting the cruise ship, the show had to split the first two episodes into 2 to 3 parts. So, I'll be reviewing the first two episodes for now, and I'll update this review as the show goes on.I've spent the first episode fangirling over the return of the show, and was amazed by how much sponsors they've found due to the show's popularity. The way how they've added new elements to the noire game, while staying true to the game's rules was refreshing to witness. Although at the end of the first case, I felt a tiny bit of disappointment, because I thought they could've added more to the suspense (I thought they might've had some elements from the Triangle and Cohenrence, but I was wrong). Fortunately, they've lived up my expectations for the series in the 2nd case (Might I add that the photographs added a nice touch to the mystery?). I can't wait to watch more!!
Edit: The 3rd case and the 4th case felt very lackluster in comparison to the first two cases. (Which is why I've dropped the show's ratings down from 9 to 7.) The references they've used were not as funny as before, and I didn't feel as engaged as I should of been? (But that's probably because I've seen so many variety shows that utilizes the "Journey to the West" theme for their game shows already throughout the years, it's not something that interests me anymore.) Overall it's still a great show, I just don't think it's worth the cash I spent for the membership (so far) .
Edit 2: I'm changing my ratings for this show once again, because ep 12 was waaaaaaaaaay too good!! I've mentioned before that the cases weren't as intriguing as I've expected. Oh boy, the 12th episode really pulls everything back together. I'm giving this an 8/10 overall score, just because of this ep!!
Overall, I think it's a great show (even though I thought the Detective Academy episodes felt like fillers, I would've preferred more cases with the regular casts). My personally favorite is still s2-s4, but this one is still one of the best variety of 2019-2020 imo.
