Silly cute drama with a plot you can't take seriously

100% the reason I started watching General's Lady is because of all the cute clips on Youtube.

Watching this is sort of like reading a manga - the main couple are really cute together and there's a lot of kissing scenes and in the beginning it's fun to watch them play around with each other but it's also a bit cliched and there's instalove.
The ML and FL have a lot of chemistry and she plays a lot of pranks on him in the beginning which make for an entertaining show. She is super petty but they're a cute couple and compliment each other. Also this show is shouting-in-a-field level of dramatic. If you like a lot of drama in your romance shows, you'll like this show.

It's a light, silly drama but I feel like they tried to make it something it's not by having the underlying plot of the show be this whole mystery of how his family members died and stuff about politics/scheming that wasn't realistic. The king seemed so incompetent and the mystery plot wasn't really consistent in the first half of the show so it was a bit hard to follow/remember what had happened. The bad guys in this show are also really one dimensional and incompetent. Example: sending a random pregnant lady to the FL to convince her that the ML knocked her up.

If my Chinese was better and I didn't have to look at the subtitles and could just have it playing in the background while I was doing something else, it might have been easier to get through. But because I had to stay relatively concentrated on the drama, I couldn't help but notice the weak plot. Halfway through it started getting kind of hard to watch and I took a break for a few weeks. A lot of the plot is also made up of misunderstandings that lead to unnecessary drama that then gets resolved, so it was hard to watch more than a few episodes at a time.

I feel like this show would have been better if they actually shortened it to 24 episodes and they made the plot tighter instead. The end where it turns out it was a screenplay felt kind of unnecessary, like it was a sort of ploy to explain away all the inconsistencies by saying oh it was just a drama. I wish they had explained how he managed to rescue her, because I actually want to know!

One other thing that I didn't love - the FL was constantly jealous/suspicious of every single new female character that was introduced, like they were all there to steal her husband. It just seemed immature and I feel like she didn't have enough trust in her husband, even after they had been through a lot. She's super hot headed and jumps to conclusions / makes assumptions and I wish that there was more character development as the show progressed instead of her staying the same. Even towards the end, she doesn't trust him and thinks he's going to rebel when as a viewer I knew that would not happen.

I liked the theme song but I feel like they only have one song and played it constantly.
It would be nice if they had other songs too.

Unrelated to the review at all, but finding out that the two leads are both a year younger than me made me feel very old hahaha.

A lot of sweet moments and beautiful declarations

I just finish rewatching this with a smile on my face.
I know it's not perfect, specially because of the FL, that can be annoying for making silly fights or fool choices. Moreover, the capital politics is not the greatest moment, the best part of the drama is the first.
Even so, you have a lot of good things.
One of the best things is Caesar Wu, he is just perfect for the serious general.
I also adore the romance and the couple overall, you have a lot of sweet moments and some beautiful declarations. The couple dynamic it's interesting to watch, all the misunderstandings are solved, they have good chemistry and kisses, and I like the way that he defends her in so many situations.

Somehow different than what I expected but a good 90/100!

I never write a review and this would be my first one. I'm just gonna write the overall of what I think, so it probably would be short.

I had a very high expectation for this drama, especially after seeing the reviews and scene recaps on Instagram.

It didn't really disappoint me, but it was different from what I expected.
If you like to read Chinese novels, you won't be unfamiliar with this kind of story. There's one that I really liked, called Mistaken Marriage Match: A Generation of Military Counselor. Somehow I expected the story to be something like that, with how the synopsis said FL solves many of the army's problem. Even though it didn't comes out as how I expect it to be, it's somehow still a great one.

There are many unexpected things that seemed like 'out of nowhere' like how the FL opens a business or how she comes back to the army camp, and at first, it makes me wonder how could it be like this? But it didn't bug me that long. I feel satisfied with how the mysteries unrevealed, even though the scale wasn't as big as I expect, like the Moon Embracing the Sun's revelation in the scene in front of the palace's main hall. That's one great scene I could never forget.

The main lead chemistry is good, no, actually all the cast are very good. Even the secondary couples or the parents all stick to how they are from the beginning to the end, and personally, I like how Prince Rui and his wife interact with each other. The eldest sibling couple is also a surprise, and I like how there's no annoying white lotus in the story. It's one of the rare things you'll find in this drama. One that I also really, really like is the character of the King. That's one rare King you'll find.

Don't get me started with how the fluffiness in this story gets me, I couldn't say enough about it. As the other reviews have stated, it's great with real kisses and not the kind of dead fish kiss. The thing that probably bothers me a bit is how the ML never really trust FL until the very end. That's probably the only thing that doesn't develop in him. But overall, this drama made me smile until the very end and I'm very, very glad with how it ended. That's the one thing I would always want to see in other drama as well, but I could rarely find them.

I never really put special attention in Chinese drama OST, but I think I kinda like the beginning song. And I don't know if all Chinese dramas were dubbed or not, but at least this one doesn't have any problem with my ear.

Well, I'm very happy that I watched this drama! It's one that I knew it would be a good one, so I've been keeping it for a long time in case I am very stressed and need a good watch. And turns out it is! Go on watch this one, everyone!

Caesar Wu in a historical drama? This I got to see.

STORY:
Shen Jin (Tang Min) is a noble lady who unfortunately is a child of one of the Duke's many wives which was always bullied by her sisters. Her older sister is kind to her though so I don't get why the other sisters look down on her when the older sister basically is the first child of the family but yep, they had to have drama in the family. So she happens to meet the male lead since her sister tricked her to marry the demon general Chu Xiu Ming (Caesar Wu) thinking that this general looks like an old brute. Their first meeting is actually comical to be honest and I like the fact that she has her servant with her as her friend all the time. Xiu Ming did not trust her at first because he was thinking that she was a spy from people who want him out of power especially when he was close to the king. It was a journey of them liking each other and I liked the fact that there was no complicated situation between them because that would be too dragging and cliche. They're relationship is good and their skinship plus kisses are so natural I thought they were husband and wife in real life. What I'm weirded out though is the ending. So everything that happened is just a figment of the female lead's imagination? What the heck was that? Although it would be an opener for a possible season 2 if they rewrote it as they were reincarnated instead.

ACTING/CAST:
Tang Min and Caesar Wu had so much chemistry there were times I had to close my eyes because I was suddenly feeling second hand embarrassment syndrome. Whoever casted them as leads deserves a raise.

MUSIC:
Yes! I love that main theme that the leads also sang. I could still recall and listen to it in my head even though there is no music playing around me. That's how memorable the main OST was.

REWATCH VALUE:
Definitely. The story was interesting and I wouldn't mind to just play it in the background.

Must see

One of the best dramas I’ve seen ( and I’ve see a lot)
This and one other drama are the only ones I will come back to watch regularly. Storyline and acting are great, theme song is sung by the main actors and it’s beautiful. All 30 episodes are available to watch on YouTube .
I loved the arc the main couple had and their chemistry was incredible. I also liked how they didn’t spend a long time getting together as most dramas do because it can get a bit tedious when dramas do that.
The bit that I loved most was the storylines outside the main couples relationship, the things they went through together and how they were part of an action adventure storyline. They also have lots of skinship and cute couple moments .

A cold yet caring male lead and a smart bubbly female lead made for an enjoyable watch.
I love the cast of this drama! I feel like they're all family and really care for each other. It was so nice to see the main couple stick with each other and grow with each other. Also, there was a lot more skinship than I thought there would be but it was very welcomed.
My favorite part of General's Lady has to be the end. I'd watch it again just for the ending. It was not expected at all but I loved it!
Even though I did enjoy this drama, I decided to take some stars off because I skipped through a lot. It didn't necessarily drag, there were just some parts I didn't need to watch to understand and appreciate the show.
Overall it was a great show with a fun story and a great cast. Worth a watch!

Actual, healthy depiction of a couple, sex life!

Stop the presses. Did you hear, married ppl who love each other, actually like being intimate with each other!!

This is the 1st C drama that I’ve seen (hoping to see more of them of course) that depicts a young, attractive couple, where the man doesn’t have to ‘force’ himself onto an unwilling wife!
Yes, the show isn’t about way more than that, but it was so refreshing to see actual kissing, and reciprocating. The woman actually instigates intimacy as well! No dead fish mouths either!

It’s the usual cliched story: icy ML and bubbly FL navigate married life. It’s an interesting take on this genre as the couple actually communicates (most of the time) and solve issues together (for the most part- this is a C drama. Someone is gonna do shit saying they’re ‘protecting’ the other party, as expected)

FL is capable and resourceful. ML acknowledges FL’s capabilities and both of them learn to trust the other. Side stories are actually pretty great as well.

Definitely recommend for a light watch

This drama start good, middle a little bit boring, & the ending seem like anti climax for me.

Typical drama with icy general meeting witty woman, they fall in love, having problem, etc...

Funnily for me the drama became boring after they go back to capital. I don't know the story just makes me bored. Maybe because they don't take one side problem, either general & his court problem or wife with her problem. The challenge is not deep enough maybe, just a little bit touch the surface here & there. So when it reach the ending or supposed to be the peak of the problem, I've already quite bored with the plot.

Truth to be said this drama have some unusual plot. Like the king that don't want to be a king, the Princess Consort who is very good to her husband Concubine's child. Not many drama who don't using this kind of plot, usually the Consort is the one who very evil to the Concubine's child.

What most funny & the most unique in the drama just when the emperor & his brother throw thrones at each other. Usually they struggle to take the thrones for themselves, not throw thrones at each other & finally they give the thrones to, also unwilling but have no choice, Chu Xiu Yuan / An'er.

Overall this drama quite fun to watch but if you have something more interesting in your list i guess not watch is still ok...

This is amazing overall. It is just so cute!!! But, what bumps it to a 10 for me are the gestures of affections. They are abundant and done with such ease - both platonic and non-platonic gestures of affection. I have actually never watched a drama with as many kisses, but despite that, it doesn't come off as hypersexual. It comes off as melt-my-heart-romantic. And they did - they totally melted my heart.

The female lead is adorable, and the male lead is so sweet. Sometimes you watch a drama or read a book for this one character, because you want a partner like that, but there are some fictional couples that have so strong a bonding that while you do want a partner like that, you can not imagine either of the pair being with anyone else. (I'm thinking of dramas like Doom at Your Service, Come and Hug Me, & The Untamed. Literally can't imagine the main pairs being with anyone else in any lifetime.) They are literal soulmates. In this drama, the female lead and the male lead are literal soulmates. They balance each other out, and their relationship is one of equals. It might not have worked out this well if the lead actors weren't as good at acting as they are. I am so, so happy that I found this treasure of a drama!!!

Good story with no plot

The story at the beginning was nice, I enjoyed both leads very much but this drama has absolutely no plot. Atleast at the first episodes its does since the romance is blooming but the rest are just tiny stories of their life's. I enjoyed it, it was sweet and nice but around the end I just found it boring more and more. I think this is the kind of drama you want to watch after watching a messy or sad ending drama cause it does give you all kind of romance every episode. I did enjoy that problems between leads wasn't dragged as much but just short time. It's the first wuxia drama I watch were there is no direct plot but rather short stories and it wasn't bad but surely not my favorite. I do enjoy the female lead the most since she's smart and strong all through out the drama. The male lead is with no doubt gorgeous so the couple chemistry for me is a 10. I wish this drama had a better plot something to wait for in the last episodes but in the end its just like a slice of life kind of drama.

Light and Fluffy with an annoying FL

I enjoyed this drama because it was light and fluffy. Nothing too heavy or too serious which is perfect for a weekend in quarantine.

But I wanted to strangle the FL so many times. She was the most annoying character in the drama and it’s entirety. She always thought she knew better and never trusted her husband when told to just let him handle things and not to worry and always end up causing troubles. The ML had his annoying moments too. He always kept things from her and wasn’t always honest in the name of protecting her 🙄

I enjoyed the fluff and the story. Would I rewatch it? For the sake of my sanity, patience and to save myself from losing my eyeballs from falling out from being rolled from beginning to end…..HELL NO!
