The Witch Without A Twist

I am a fan of the The Witch Pt. 1 so I have been waiting the sequel for years. I am happy I finally had a chance to watch it on big screen! I followed the production journey and as the team had a copyright issue with their previous film distributor ( Warner Bros. Korea ), they had to butcher up their original The Witch stories with Jayoon as main character. Hence why I lowered my expectation for this part 2.

First of all, story wise. They basically have almost showed everything in the trailer except the ending. It is those common stories of lab victim run away, find good ally, enemies catch them, but they win after their loved one got hurt. The acting wasn't my taste, instead of embracing the characters personalities- some of their acting feels staged to me. They tried so hard to look cool. There are english dialogue in it, but it sounds so awkward. I'm sorry I am not really familiar with chinese language so I couldnt judge it. Positive side, I like a lot how they open the story and I didn't expect them to start it like that. The unique "countrified" vibe is shown again in it. The opening and the ending would be a main key for the whole franchise. Please stay until after credit, because they show post credit scenes like those marvel movies!

They casted a ton of people for side characters and cameos but they are all like a copy to each other. I was thinking "Is it on purpose they look similiar as it is a cloning stories?". I also feel like there are quite a lot unnecessary scenes, with the jokes and comedic-like scenes. I wish them to show more the bonding between "The Girl" and Kyung Hee-Dae Gil sibling. That is what I have been waiting as I read the director explaining the differences between her and previous witch, Jayoon.

I have to be honest, I am kinda disappointed with the characters building for the new witch. The director went with repeated heroine route we could find in those human experiment stories. Emotionless, no personality ( yet ), fascinated to outside world like a baby bird, and once again overpowered. But after watching, I do feel curious how he would come up with the next part and how he build her character in the future. "The Girl" is still like a white paper to me.

Action Sequences. There are quite a lot of cool awesome battle scenes and it still has that anime-like battle touch in it. They definitely improved it with their big budget. There is one fight with beautiful billboard lighting, and that is my favorite one. Unfortunately, if you are a slow watcher, you would be troubled with pt 2 fighting style because all the characters are so powerful and their fighting is so fast- blip blip - shoot - blip - slash neck - that is my description. Warning, the rating is 18+ so the killing wound part is quite explicit.

Overall, I gave it a 7.5. I think new audiences would enjoy it so much, but the previous part 1 fans like me- would be in love and hate relationship with the sequel.

"So Damn Boring"

Just like everyone else I watched this because I really liked the first movie but this is such a big disappointment. They just put a lot of unnecessary things in the movie to make it 2 hours long when really it could have just been an hour. Also so little screen time for a the cast that I was looking forward to seeing and too much screen time for unnecessary people. I was also looking forward to the action scenes but there were no fighting just a lot of killing. Female lead was way too strong that all she
did was kill people, which made the action boring. There was nothing good about the movie. Oh gosh I really hated when a different race tries to speak in another language in movies because it really sucks, them trying to speak Chinese was so bad that I really wanted to smash my Tv in. Really bland and boring nothing impressive.

What a letdown!

The story sucked. The CG sucked. The casting sucked. The english was bad and poorly dubbed. The acting was just so-so.
I was a huge fan of the first movie and was waiting soooo long for the sequel, but it just doesn't live up to the first one at all. Not even close.
No one had any presence. In the 1st film, Kim Da Mi and Woo Shik shined and left an impression,, but here, everyone was so boring. That is probably mostly due to the fact that the story was too simple. To be honest, it doesn't even feel like there was a story. Also the action scenes felt so fake that it came off stupid. Sorely disappointed.

Great movie, would watch it again. (SPOILERS SPOILERS)

This movie was sure fun and exciting to watch.

DISCLAIMER: I won't spoil every single detail and sorry if I use the actors' names, the characters didn't have much name-calling in the movie lol.

- The story overall is pretty simple. But I think that's a good thing for a franchise that is so dark and will get a continuation since it made it easier for me to understand. Also, the intro and the ending of the movie I think is the only "important" part of the movie while everything else is filler/backstory. The pacing in this movie is also pretty fast during the 1st half, I wasn't able to catch on to some details.

- The casting for this movie is pretty great. I love that they cast Shin Si-Ah as The Girl, she played her part VERY well for someone new to the industry. I also love the foreigner guy (who is in the same agency as Si-ah) his character was a comic relief, which made the film fun to watch for such a dark-toned movie.

- For the characters, I loved each one of them, there were definitely more characters here that had their fair share of "moments" compared to the 1st movie. In this movie, there were multiple groups of characters like the Chinese To-Woo, The Union Soldiers (Seo Eun-Soo's character team), and the thugs. It was definitely a unique dynamic in my opinion and it was really thrilling to watch when they all ended up interacting and fighting with each other. The characters in this movie were divided into: Group vs Group vs Group vs Shin Si-Ah's character.

- Now the action scenes... WOW. The action scenes were top-notch, like they were visually satisfying and choreographically beautiful. In my personal opinion, these fight scenes easily beat marvel's fight scenes; when I was watching the fights in this movie, it felts so surreal just like you're witnessing a fight between Gods. Whereas in Marvel it's more.. simple? I legit thought I was watching an anime fight (not exaggerated, it was a literal anime fight style.)

- In terms of Kim Dami and Lee Jong Suk, they were definitely there for some parts of the movie. Lee Jong Suk's scenes showed his extreme charisma and it was nice to see him on the big screen again, but his character doesn't contribute much to the story.
For Kim Dami... she's definitely being in the 3rd movie if there is one. Her character has a MAJOR connection to Shin Si-Ah's character and the scene she was in was pretty badass too, although it was short.

- I think there will be a 3rd installation after seeing that ending with Shin Si-Ah and Kim Dami's Mother.

- Overall, I really love this movie and it was super fun to watch and gave me a refresher on the superhero/powers genre.
The powers in this movie were shown very extreme but I love it lol. Plus I really really really liked Eun Soo and the foreigner's dynamic haha. 10/10 will rewatch it for the excitement I felt watching this movie and for the fight scenes since they were moving at literal light speeds ;-;

Missing an actual plot...

What made the The Witch Part 1 good is because it had an actual plot AND some fantastic fight scenes.

I actually felt like watching an ActionMovie with Part 1.

This one though... the storytelling was too messy that you couldn't really tell what's the point of watching till the end. Moreover, the action scenes went overboard that it looked cringey instead of cool like its predecessor's.

the only thing that saved this movie for me is the fact that Kim Da Mi is still in it.

Basically,
Bad cinematography
Below Average Acting
Cringey Fight Choreos
Overall Special Effects looked cheap
Soundtrack doesn't even fit the mood

Decent movie though not great !!

Well, This movie in a way is very similar to part 1, however crew became oblivious that audience already knew that the girl has supernatural abilities, so there is no surprise element. Also the power is of great magnitiude compared to part 1, so it becomes like animation.

More characters leads to less depth of characters. The Girl is just a blank paper (She gets 8 to 10 Dialogues overall) and JaYun gets very less screentime as well.
JaYun saves her friend in part 1, here the Girl did not save 2 people and exhibits enormous power later which she could have used earlier to stop those bombings. The other is not shown as smart like the former one, she used excessive power on those gangsters when its unnecessary.
Genetically modified people are not only known for their physical power but also they are considered as smart (in all aspects) in understanding the situation and dealing with it. Also surprisingly Girl never had any objective in her mind.

IMO , I would recommend to to use limited power (Otherwise it would become like X-Men )
Note the comments are about the Plot and ACTING wise Everyone did an exceptional job !!

if you have 2 hours and wanna watch something then give it a try, i even don't like stranger things and I thought I won't like it either but I stuck with this.
looking forward for part3.

acting is so good.
story was simple yet interesting.

and I watch it cause of I like the witch part first and for all those hate comments.

I enjoyed this series and if someone find it boring 😑just get a brain wash treatment..

those who don't like this movie calling me
tasteless, like do I even care about them.. 😆

(I recieved hate for watching this like "u wasted your time" "you pretending to like it just for Lee Jong suk". "yeah you like cause you don't have any taste").
that's why I write this review in fit of rage :)

WAITING FOR THE 3RD PART

So i watched the first part and was eagerly waiting for the 2nd one i was so happy about the casting too but the 2nd one is not so much connected to the first part like i thought this part will be more amazzing than the first one but this movie extreamly used TheGirl,s power and in the first part ja yoon had more dialouges but in this the girl had little so i was kind of sad. But the ending was a blast so now i am again waiting for the third part,Overall the acting was SOOO GOOD LeeJong Suk was so perfect and Park Eun Bin dont even need to expain her acting i was amaed at the whole actors!! the story was also average but it did not hit me like the first one.

tbh I'm not trying to find faults, but having a lot of characters in a movie is a considerable drawback. So I can guess that several parties from different countries are involved, but why keep mixing languages making it so messed up? The mandarin team should stick to mandarin, the English peeps should just continue to stick to that, of cuz maybe because their origin is the same (??). And trying to cover the story of all those side characters while ignoring the main characters and the object of all those peeps chasing....maybe they should stick to one story. There is a limit to what you can say within a 2-hour movie, why make it so messed up? But truly the only exciting thing is the fight scene at the end, but I feel they gave me a candy and then took it away before I can taste it. If you ask me The Witch Part 1 is waaaay better than Part 2.

Watched this movie to see how the story advances. It does not have any value-added storyline. I rented this on prime, sort of mad about that. Have no desire to see part 3. Overall, it feels lazy on the writer's side of things. It's Witch 1 storyline with a different Girl. Same - o, same - o. Lab escape, mad scientist, superpowered villains hunting Girl, add one twist and your done working for the day.

This is Part 2 of what is going to be more to come. It ends dead stop, mid thought, anticlimax (big time). Many scenes in this movie are filler, not necessary to the flow of the story. Some of them were downright annoying, others just confusing. I also had some timeline challenges generating some confusion about why I was watching certain scenes.

This is not an action-packed movie. It is not a movie with a lot of good fight scenes. The only dynamic fight occurs 1.45 hrs into the movie, basically the end of the movie. This fight does have some actual skilled fighting but is heavily dependent on superman level special effects. This fight is the peak of the movie and delivers great action, some fair dialogue, and sets up what becomes the big flop ending. First fight 56 mins in, is two super powered villains beating a car door. Second is 1.10 hrs in, again superpowers and special effects. Scene 1 and 2 last about 3-5 mins and don't really involve fighting skills.

Cast is good for the most part. Several scenes are carried by the actors as the writing lacks depth. So, thru the movie, many actors save otherwise what is lack luster scenes. I do believe the directors organized and delivered as best available from the script. Park as Kyung Hee is the most compelling performance. Park seems to be a level above this movie. Sung as Dae Gil is really good and generates the one heartfelt scene of the movie with an innocent friendship developed with Girl. Shin as Girl is perfect and delivers that one moment my eyes got watery. The best just fun stuff comes as Dae Gil and Girl try to be friends. Comparing to Witch 1, Shin completely captures the lab escapee girl. Plus ++++ level 4 superpowers (way beyond the super villains).

Villains: 1 - typical throw away gangsters, set up to be fodder during 2nd and last fight. 2 - Superpowered mercs (level 1 powers, just really fast/strong and can take a beating), with a tie into Witch 1. The attempt to generate some comedic relief between the lead mercs is value added. 3. The stylish superpowered mercs (level 2 powers, special skills, uber fast/strong, harder to kill than a zombie and regenerate body parts in seconds), no value added to storyline. Do create the only dynamic fight scenes. You will recognize their click from Witch 1. Totally bring the callous next gen merc cool kids vibe.

I really wanted to get into this movie. I love Park Eun Bin as Attorney Woo, and I am rewatching Woo now. I wanted to have another Park go to, I am disappointed.

Just as it is.

072122

Like others, I am a fan of Part 1 and with that, I had high hopes for this Part 2. Much more when I saw the casts for it ã…¡ LJS, PEB, JG, etc. I really expected so much to the point that I couldn't wait for it to be released in different websites with eng subs on it, and as soon as it happened, I immediately went for it and here we are.

For the first hour of the movie, I have to be completely honest, I got bored as if it wasn't an action, thriller, or a suspense. Likewise with the plot, I also got confused cause all the while, I thought it had huge connection with Part 1. Well, besides for a fact that the girl is you know. But no, the story is just as it is. Similar with the first one but worse. No build-ups, no bigger or in-depth intentions especially for the characters.

For the language, really. I don't even wanna start with this. It was bad but i guess, not the worst? or maybe it is. The part where JH and the other guy were speaking in English, it felt unnatural or forced. I also can't understand why the Chinese group suddenly can speak fluent Korean. They're even more articulate with it (Well because the actors and actresses themselves are Korean but if that was the case, the producers could've stayed it as who they are or if not, someone who's fluent with Chinese or an actual Chinese)

For the fighting scenes, uhmm, quite cool. It was the reason why i still decided to finish it. But I also have to pinpoint how it had less details especially for the scenes of the girl who had too much power. All she had to do was to look and boom. In short, overpowered. Perhaps, I might be over critical with this because in the description, that's what it says.

The only thing that worked for me was the ending. KDM's cameo or appearance was sensational.

1st off the subs aint good, sadly that makes it hard (like, got the gist. but am sure there minute details that went over my head). regardless, must say enjoyed this as much as i did "The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion". which comes as a surprise, not just cause of all the negative feedback this has gotten. but cause been put off watching this, as wanted the 2nd part, to pick up where the 1st left off (as is this took 4yrs in the making) & seeing how the 2nd part was described, cooled my curiosity - thus not rushing to watch when it came out, but am glad finally checked it out.

this a slow burn for sure, think 30 mins in there almost no dialogue & what little there is, isn't enough to clue u in on what the heck is going on. for 1 didn't get who was against whom & why. get Dr. Baek & her twin where the main scientist, but who were they working for and why where they killing people left right & center even their experiment's?!? needed clarification on that, & who let Mi Young go at the start, who raised her?!? even if she got a tracker on her, how can they know she's pregnant & it's time to "collect" her? maybe this & more will get answered in the next part - for now these "hole's" r frustrating.

weird or not the one i really loved was Tom, dude a breath of fresh air - every one else was walking around like the freakin grim reaper (which, get considering their power, let lone how they were brought-up) but that still a downer to watch. also ironically enjoyed Yong Doo (he totally deserved how he died) but while he was alive, he was a fun character - especially when he was scared sh*tless lol.

would've loved if Kyung Hee & her brother survived (like the couple who saved Ko Ja Yun in the 1st part). but then (i doubt) Ko Ja Yun's twin would've willingly gone with her & doubt Ko Ja Yun has reached out / searched for her, cause they family. bet it's cause unlike Ko Ja Yun, her sister doesn't need to get medicated on the monthly for her brain not to combust. like i said, a lot of plot-holes not explained / left open, so i unlike others am looking forward to the next part, just to get answers.

like mentioned above this a slow burn, but it's well acted & when the action came it was remarkable, heck IMHO even better then the 1st part - showing that the twin was stronger then her sister. so i for one think this was great & will happily recommend + can't wait for the next part.

side note: everyone going on & on about Lee Jong Suk, he almost didn't have any screen time. maybe in part 3?!?....
