Rang Rang and Zai Zai, I will miss them.

I have no experience for writing review. This is my first time. When I was depressed about my life, I started this drama with zero expectation. But slowly I am addicted in it. I knew male lead for ' Falling into your smile ' and female lead for ' Please don't spoil me '. In this drama their acting is totally different. They acted very well. There are many cliche in this drama, but it make this drama more beautiful. I wathed many drama where female lead chase male lead. Sometime it irritated me that female lead has no self respect. Su zai zai is totally opposite from them. She is cute, adorable and clever. When she is happy, I am also happy. The male lead also different from other cold male lead. He was introvert at first, but later he become extrovert for Su zai zai. Their dating era is too small for me! If I could get more episode. Gu ran, Jang Jia and Guan feng, they are also cute. I will miss them and their bonding. I will miss grandma. No, I will miss everyone in this drma. I definitely rewatch this drma.

One of the best romance dramas l have ever seen.

I finished the drama a long time ago (like the day the last episode aired), but l just couldn't bring myself to write a review because writing the review meant saying a final goodbye to my Rang Rang and Su Zaizai. This drama healed me in many ways and l cannot even explain it. It made me realize how lonely l was because l did not have friends like Su Zaizai, Zhang Lurang, Guan Fang, Gu Ran and Jiang Jia. I mean yes it was meant to be a typical cliche romance drama but it was more about that. The drama talked about friendships, trust, family expectations and yes romance.

Let me start of with the main characters Su Zaizai and Zhang Lurang. Su Zaizai was not your typical cutesy, brainless female lead. She was strong, independent and stood up for her man. She wax everything and more and l really admired her love for Zhang Lurang. Then my man Zhang Lurang "Rang Rang", although he was said to be a cold, male character he was not that. He was a tsundere if l do say so myself, he seemed closed off because of his situation at home but let me tell you that he was not all that. He was a sweet, understanding and all round great guy not only to his Su Zaizai but his friends.

Then l will get to Guan Fang, he was a great guy and l miss him dearly, his love for his grandmother was commendable, he is a perfect example of how people change for the better and for the people they love. Then my other man Gu Ran, his love for his friends and Jiang Jia was absolutely commendable, total love bug. Then Jiang Jia was just so relatable that l could not figure out why. I loved her and she had such great development.

I'm really happy that l was able to witness such a great drama. This drama went above and all for my expectations that l still feel the whole till now.

So till we meet again Su Zaizai and Zhang Lurang.

What does high school mean to you? What does youth mean to you?

As someone who is turning 30 soon, I haven't watched youth dramas in a while. This is the only youth drama that truly touched my heart and brought me back to my high school days. First of all, our main couple is the perfect example of extroverted girl and introverted boy which I really liked. The ML doesn't really talk much but every time he looks at her, you can just tell how much he is in love with her. Our FL may seem a bit clingy at first, but in reality she is just a 16 year old who has fallen in love for the first time, so her actions are understandable. While watching the drama, I found her so adorable and I was drawn in by her confidence and strong sense of morals. She knows what is right and wrong and she will stick to her principles, even if that means standing up for herself in scary situations.

If I were to visualize their relationship, the FL is like the light at the end of the tunnel. Our ML went through a lot because of his uncaring and biased parents and he lived in darkness for a long time. However, our FL shined a light through that dark tunnel and our ML was finally able to find the way out of the darkness. For our FL, our ML is like a solid rock. There is a saying in the Bible that basically says a house built on a rock is the most sturdy because it will never fall. When the winds come, when the rains fall, the house will stay firm because it is built on a rock. In the Bible, this rock is referring to Jesus. In the drama, whenever our FL goes through hardships and difficulties in life, she can always lean on her rock, which is the ML and because of him she can stay strong.

I loved all of our side characters as well. I honestly wasn't expecting to be so invested in the second couple because at first Gu Ran was really annoying. However, the moment Gu Ran fell in love with Jia Jia, everything changed. He suddenly went from self absorbed to kind, caring, sweet and even selfless. The moment when Gu Ran pushed Jia Jia towards her crush so that he could confess, even though Gu Ran was dying on the inside, showed me how this guy was a real gentleman and someone who truly cared. When they finally got together, I'm sure we all cheered for them and said FINALLY!

Moving on, I have such a soft spot for Guan Fang. Seriously, Guan Fang and his grandma made me cry so much and it made me miss my grandma. When I watched the Youtube clips of this drama, I was thinking that Guan Fang would be the happy-go-lucky guy, the clown of this group. I wasn't expecting his backstory, that he was beating people up and getting beat up. That he was the outcast at school and both the students and the teacher didn't like him. My heart went out for him because I am also a person who looks very happy on the outside but I have a lot of sadness and suffering on the inside. Deep in my heart, I hope that Guan Fang and his grandma will live happily ever after in dramaland.

Last but not least, I love this drama because it reminded me of my high school days and in a way, transported me back. The good memories, the laughter, the simple days of chatting in the hallways, hanging out at a friend's house after school, getting bubble tea together. All of these memories came back to me and it made me wishing for, longing for simpler days. It also made me reminisce my high school friendships. Although I don't keep in touch with most of my high school friends, the good memories are there and they will always be there.

I hope that this drama will be a source of joy, hope and encouragement to whoever watches it. For me, it was like a hug on a rainy day. This drama reminds me that although many days are tough and there is so much suffering in the world, when I go home I know that I can get a hug from my loved one and everything will be alright. Sending love and positivity to whoever had the patience to read this whole review. We all deserve to love and to be loved.

reasons why to watch

someone who likes dramas that depict their high school friendship years in a lighthearted way should give this a try.

This drama contains a very sweet romance, their friendship is also sweet. very suitable for those who miss the good times enjoying school... if there was time to go back in time and there was zhang lurang waiting, I'd go straight to the past though.

the selection for the ost is really very suitable, the visuals of the drama are really really good!!!!!

let's watch this drama, you won't regret it

What in the cuteness is this?? If I didn't know, I wouldn't have guessed that the main guy is the same guy who played Ai Jia in Falling into Your Smile. He has done a very good job playing a totally different character. The story is quite simple and very easy to follow. I managed to get through the secondhand embarrasement because Su Zaizai is self aware that she can be quite embarassing sometimes. Despite her childish appearance and demeanor, Su Zaizai is an honest girl and you can count on her to stand up for herself.
The last few episodes are a bit of a rush but it's fine, still enjoyable.

Sweetest, cutest, most heartwarming!

If you're looking for a school chinese drama with fluff, cuteness, and giggles, When I Fly Towards you will be on my top three of my recommendation. The stort itself is simple, about a bubbly chaotic girl who fell in love at first sight with a calm quiet boy and she pursues him. It does sound like a very repetitive plot, but when you finally watch it, it does not! I don't know why, but unlike in other typical dramas, Su Zai Zai is not annoying at all. In fact, I love her character, confident and strong willed. She is also very cute but not the type that can be pushed around and only waiting for the boy to save her. Zhang Lurang also surprised me. Usually, a guy like this will be rude towards the fmc, but Lurang does the opposite. He's very calm and soft spoken.

Zai Zai really lifts up Lurang's confidence and seems to make his world brigther again. Every interaction between those two are just so cute, feels like I'm back in my high school years. I also like how after they got together, Lurang seems to smile, speak, and initiate more.

Too bad we don't see much of Gu Ran, Jiang Jia, and Guan Fang, after high school graduation. The video type of scenes also make it very nostalgic and personal. Overall, this is a very fun and cute watch. This will be on of the dramas that I will visit often to see my favorite scenes.

A Cute and Fun Series!

Coming on the heals of โ€œHidden Love,โ€ I decided to do another Chinese drama (my second one). โ€œWhen I Fly Towards Youโ€ is actually a very light and delightful series, although it lacks the depth and heart of the previously mentioned series. Itโ€™s a series that doesnโ€™t really take any chances or risks. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I felt that there were missed opportunities, and thus, this series, while very good, is very โ€œvanilla.โ€

While the series is about a quiet, shy boy and a perky, vivacious young 16-year-old girl, the series could have almost been called, โ€œSchool Friendsโ€ or something to that effect. Iโ€™d say that a good 40-45% of the series is focused on the five friends in their high school days, and the rest is on the two protagonists who should have been the focus and had more screen time.

Su Zai Zai is a very upbeat young girl, who always has a smile on her face, and certainly isnโ€™t shy at all. If youโ€™re looking for the doe-eyed girl who bats her eyes and waits for the boy to make his move, Zai Zai is not that girl. She is tenacious in the pursuit of her dreams and goals, and she makes no apologies for her direct and abrupt manner. Her target is the very quiet, shy boy, Zhang Lu Rang.

Zhang Lu Rang is a boy who barely cracks a smile. He quietly goes about his days, even when girls are lining up to have a chance with the handsome and brilliant Lu Rang. However, he gives none of them even a glanceโ€ฆthat is, until he runs into Zai Zai at a small corner store. Her first reaction is to call him โ€œan idiotโ€ for walking to the store without an umbrella. She quickly regrets her reaction, and as soon as she sees him again at their military training, sheโ€™s quickly in hot pursuit. She teases him, playfully needles him, and showers him with cute remarks. Anything to bring this quiet boy out of his shell. At first, he tries to shrug her off, but Zai Zaiโ€™s charm and quick wit soon begin to melt the โ€œice king.โ€

We soon discover the reason behind Lu Rangโ€™s shyness, which we realize is a result of very low self-esteem. His parents are both tiger parents, some of the most monstrous forms of child abusers there are. Only westerners with their indifference toward their children would give tiger parents a run. I know first-hand because I am an ESL teacher and have seen some of the most horrifying things from tiger parents and how they abuse their own children. Lu Rang is constantly berated by his parents, especially his mother who believes that he is a failure, despite his exemplary grades. His younger brother is the golden child of the family, who outshines even Lu Rang academically. There are no warm words of encouragement or comfort from Lu Rangโ€™s cold mother during their exchanges, and itโ€™s quite clear that Lu Rangโ€™s brother is the favorite.

Zai Zai uses her charm and love for Lu Rang to let him know that heโ€™s none of the things that his parents believe him to be. She becomes a ray of hope for him, as he very slowly begins to grow in confidence. Zai Zai simply wonโ€™t give up on him, nor will she allow him to sulk alone. Bubbly and perky, Zai Zai always finds a way to get the smallest crack of a smile out of Lu Rang.

The series ran into a crossroads. Focus on Zai Zai and Lu Rang or focus on the group of friends. Rather than picking one road, it tried to do both. The focus of the series should have been on Zai Zai and Lu Rang. I wanted more scenes with them. I wanted to find out how Lu Rang is able to resolve his problems with his parentsโ€”if at all. Instead, his parents all but disappear from the series from about the 12th episode. This is an area that could have, and should have been, explored in more depth as well as come up with more ways of showing the transformation of friendship between Zai Zai and Lu Rang into romance. Unfortunately, when you try to give the same attention to two stories, you end up coming up short in both. The old Native American saying of, โ€œIf you chase two rabbits, youโ€™ll lose them both.โ€

โ€œHidden Loveโ€ dared to delve deeply into the characters of its two protagonists, and the payoff was well worth it. We felt close to these characters, caring about how they were going to overcome their obstacles. In this series, there really isnโ€™t ever any real conflict or problems that Zai Zai and Lu Rang must deal with. For Zai Zai, itโ€™s dealing with her boss acting like a pimp with her. For Lu Rang, itโ€™s talking things out and resolving things with his brother.

It's the charm and performance of the cast that really makes the series work, despite not having the courage to delve more deeply below the surface. There are many funny and cute moments that still make this series more than watchable, but I just couldnโ€™t help feeling that it was also a missed opportunity.

We still get those really awkward and silly intimate moments where college-aged kids act like 13-year-olds whenever a kiss, a hug, or even holding hands might occur. They make too big of a deal out it, which also flies in the face of logic and reality, even in China. They react as though they are about to commit a crime.

Zhang Miao Yi (Zai Zai) is a cute performer. With those eyes and dazzling smile, we can see why so many are captivated by the amount of charm that she brings to the table. Sheโ€™s a bit inconsistent with her romantic scenes, however, especially her kissing scenes. Many of them felt wooden and forced. If youโ€™re an actress who doesnโ€™t like doing these kinds of roles, then you simply shouldnโ€™t do them. There were times when she was very believable with Zhou Yi Ran (Lu Rang) and others when she almost looked out-of-place.

Zhou Yi Ran was good too, but he needed to find a way to make Lu Rang likable and charming, despite his shyness and low self-esteem. Too often, he came across as stiff. Itโ€™s a tough task to balance these traits, and yet, that is another reason why the series should have allowed him to do more had they put him front and center rather than being a peripheral character too often.

Because of the imbalance between the two plots, the series also suffers from pacing issues. Weโ€™d get an episode to update us on Zai Zai and Lu Rang, and then weโ€™d get one that scarcely showed them at all, which leads us to a warp-speed ending in the last two episodes where we constantly jump years ahead within the space of a few minutes. It felt as if the director said, โ€œOkay, weโ€™ve got to hurry and wrap this up!โ€ It didnโ€™t have the natural feeling of an organic ending like โ€œHidden Loveโ€ had.

If youโ€™re looking for something very light and fun without much else, then youโ€™re likely to enjoy this series!

This drama is like a breath of fresh air and a shot of espresso

I never would have thought that there would be a youth drama that would be at par with Time and Him is Just Right in terms of sweetness and just one that gives you butterflies in your stomach. I can't help but reminisce my childhood memories of watching this drama. It all has all kinds of cliche scenes and predictable plot in a youth drama but it was done so well that I found myself anticipating for the next episode. This drama healed my soul, really.

Let's talk about the perfect cast for this drama. The male leads are literally so cute together. I found myself dying from secondhand embarrassment at a few scenes at the start, haha, but the comedy was so top tier, I paused the video and just replayed the scenes over and over and laughed out loud. The chemistry between the cast and the romance is so swoon-worthy. I love me some green flag and puppy-like male lead. It was a breath of fresh air that the leads fell for each other at first sight. Usually for youth dramas, one fell for the other first, or both realize that they like each other after a few episodes. But this drama actually portrays perfectly what falling in love at first sight means. The male lead is not the usual cold male lead but just actually a shy one, and from the start he only has eyes for the female lead. The female lead is your bubbly girl but smart too, and has a sense of justice. She was so blatant in showing the male lead that she likes him that the male lead has no choice but to accept her affection haha. The portrayal of friendship and family problems surrounding the other characters was also done so well that I found myself attached to them.

Overall, I love love love this drama. And every time I finish a good drama, I feel so empty inside huhuh hopefully they keep it up in producing these amazing youth dramas because it is really one of my favorite genres. It gives me a sense of escape from reality sometimes. SOLID 10/10!!!!

A clear story that brings both comfort and fondness

This really brought me so much comfort. It was cozy, like a hot chocolate during winter. The story was well written and it was executed amazingly.
It was just really amazing to see a realistic teenage high school drama for once. The absence of miscomunications and love triangles was like a breath of fresh air.

It's a story where you get to witness the strong bond among people that grow closer little by little and become such close friend. You get to see growing love as well as the many hardships that teens often experience. The creation of meaningful relationships and everything else were things that I was really happy to see and that really made me emphatise with the characters. Of course it may seem a bit cheesy at times but that's what I really loved about it. I felt like a little kid daydreaming about love and wondering about my future.

Nice Plot but what about.....

Overall, this was a fantastic drama, but the one flaw was that it was intended to be a drama about a class and a friendship. The second lead couple, who were equally involved, had their courtship and confessions rushed since the drama was so preoccupied with Su Zai Zai and Zhang Lu Rang. I believe that the purpose of this drama was to depict a group of high school students learning about friendship and falling in love as they overcome obstacles at school and support one another through hardship, whether it be at home or at school. However, the drama focused too much on the two main leadsโ€”I know that they are the main leads, but overall the meaning was lost between the two second main leads. when they also merited the spotlight because the drama involved a large group of people rather than simply two individuals. Su Zai Zai did a great job portraying Zhang Lu Rang as someone who she truly loved, but I was unable to recognize his cold demeanor. I also believe that this was the point in the film where reality was lost regarding the fact that a girl wouldn't pursue someone who was so naive as Zhang Lu Rang; even though his personality began to take shape toward the end, it couldn't compensate for the girl's efforts. No girl will have the patience to wait for a guy who will be so chilly and uncomfortable around her, despite the fact that this is a drama, thus it still needs to be able to represent a little bit of truth. This is merely my own interpretation of what I took away from viewing this drama. As a high school drama, which I tend to enjoy a lot, I would certainly suggest it, however when compared to other dramas of a similar caliber, I believe there are better options available. Thank you
