PTS Original: Circle of Noose (2017)

A mother and daughter struggling to leave their past behind come face to face with the legendary spirit of Sister Lin Tou. Is it really the vengeful ghost or just their inner demons? Hsiao Hsi and her mother, Mei Fang, run a small florist together. To treat Mei Fang’s sleeping problems, Hsiao Hsi takes her to see her new psychiatrist boyfriend, Yen Hao, whom she doesn’t introduce because she is afraid of how her possessive and controlling mother will react. Yen Hao also insists on not telling anyone — but doesn’t divulge it is because he has still not gotten over his ex-girlfriend’s suicide. When skeletal remains are dug up at a construction site, they are revealed to belong to Hsiao Hsi’s father, who supposedly vanished out at sea 20 years ago. Stunned, Mei Fang disappears after the funeral and is eventually found to have hung herself in the woods, once again igniting whispers about the return of Sister Lin Tou, a vengeful ghost from Taiwanese folklore who preys on innocent women. Devastated, Hsiao Hsi enlists a psychic to communicate with Mei Fang’s spirit but is interrupted by Yen Hao, who reveals that the psychic is actually his mother.
