Urban fantasy drama at its finest
As always, Chinese dramas excel in producing high-quality projects based on supernatural concepts with the touch of their culture and history. This is one of the best series I’ve watched in Wuxia’s category. Alongside the masterpieces such as The Untamed, Word of Honor, Heaven Official’s Blessing, etc. The unique thing about this show is how they set up the story in the modern world. I highly applaud the production staff for presenting extraordinary editing and visual effects. The variety of introducing numerous superpowers was cool and pleasant, all thanks to the smooth delivery of the CGI.The 100th Outsiders Martial Arts Contest was such an anime peak tournament level. The fight scenes, bonds, and the clash of powers were just always the cherry on top within the show. This arc also has my favorite episode. The battle round between Wang Ye and Zhuge Qing. These two sorcerer magic users engaged in an astonishing duel plus the epic animation quality keeps me in my seat so tightly. Both actors are so handsome too that I can’t help but ship them. The camp night out during the middle of the tournament was so cute. I believed that it was the root of their friendships.
My favorite thing about these kinds of dramas is the diversity of groups that they can offer to the audience. We have different sects, clans, families, and sub-groups that provide additional spice to the conflicts. The notable ones are the NTD express, four crazies of sinister pleasure, ten elders, all-encompassing guilds, and the 36 thieves.
Yet, no one can top the major grouping that the show has which is the eight supremes. In this season, we were only introduced to five of these powerful abilities; the Qi Apotheosis, Qimen Manipulation, Dispatch of Detained Spirit, Infinite Heavenly Talisman, and the Double Quan Palm. All are high-powered techniques that we got to see a glimpse of their abilities.
Double Quan Palm was the only technique that was explained to us in detail. It was a creepy magic that allowed the user to control memories by removing, altering, and transferring them to another person. It can also have the ability to regenerate broken parts of the body.
The main point that I admired about the characters is how the oldies believed that the youth are now the savers of the present while supporting them from the side. In the finale episode, we got to see the four new-gen individuals, aside from the MC, who helped him defeat the creator of the double quan palm technique. Some points during the last episode were not explained well but I know they will tackle it in the sequel. Qi Apotheosis is such a broken ability and I am excited to see more from the endpoint of all Qi techniques.
While watching this, I am either laughing, amazed, or crying. The comedy was good as an entertainment but the tragic story was too painful. Even though I watched this two years after the release date, I am still happy that I will not have to wait more longer to see the sequel that was just ended recently as well. That’s all I can say and catch you up in another review after I complete the second season of this well-written fiction.

Bao Bao Empire
*I Am Nobody* is a shonen from the *Enen no Shouboutai* school. Like *Fire Force*, it crosses off all the tropes of the genre with a knowing wink to the audience. I suppose it’s a bit like wrassling in that regard. It works if you think it’s real or know it isn’t.Ahem!
Decades ago, the *Heishen Incident* caused immense upheaval in the world of The Outsiders — the show’s hidden class of meta-humans. A shadowy sect hopes to uncover the truth of the incident in its quest for power. The universe’s policing organisation is mobilising to stop them, and the key to all that might be an orphaned boy — a loser, naturally — named Zhang Chu Lan.
So far, so cliched. But the execution is really what sets this show apart. The mad lads snuck in allusions to *Lord of the Rings* and *Mob Psycho* in the first thirty minutes. That reeled me in and kept me enthralled for twenty-seven
episodes as the creators unpacked their Matryoshka Dolls plot.

* Who are the world’s power players?
* What happened in the Heishen Incident?
* Where did Feng Bao Bao come from?
The show provides satisfying answers to all those questions. Along the way, we get the usual side plots revolving around the themes of parvenus and old money, uneasy child-parent relationships, the consequences of the unethical pursuit of power, and, of course, the power of friendship—which was the point all along.
In terms of characterisation, this is a classic deuteragonist plot. Bao Bao and Chu Lan stand on the shoulders of giants like Naruto and Sasuke, Gon and Killua and — hear me out — All Might and Endeavour (*I suppose Midoriya and Bakugo in the new generation*). I wrote All Might and Endeavour because although Chu Lan is powerful in his own right, Bao Bao is basically this show’s One Punch Lass. It’s a Batman and Superman situation.
Their dynamic works because although we’re introduced to Chu Lan first, and he’s the show’s primary POV character, Bao Bao is its main character. However, she’s one of those flat, killer-bot-type characters —think Akame, as in ga kill, Hei from *Darker than Black* or Angie from *Princess Principal — *so Chu Lan’s dynamism is necessary to maintain the show’s rapid pace.
A quartet completes the lead duo. We’ve got *Zhang Lin Yu,* a monk who envies Chu Lan his virginity (*no worries, he later achieves enlightenment. Amitabha!*). Wang Ye is a Daoist plagued by visions and one of the universe’s strongest characters. Zhuge Qin is an idol descended from Kongming. He used to think he was the strongest until he met Wang Ye. Ye and Qin basically exist to sate BL-stans. *Please, random boomercrat, let the BL-stans have their shows again*! Make bros **just** bros again, damn it, boomercrat! Despite not seeing their point, I admit they consistently have the show’s most creative fight scenes! Ahem! also, *in the straightest possible way, hou ming hao is like a porcelain vase catching the first rays of sunlight rising above the horizon. like, dude! get out here being that handsome.* Ahem!
There’s also Lv Liang who’s just. . .annoying!
The show’s got a whole ensemble cast who mostly feature in its Chunnin Exam arc (*the show’s best, IMO*). The powers, albeit low-budget, are interesting. And that’s a testament to the vision of the director, Hong Yu Xu. I’m typically biased against Chinese live-action adaptations of animated shows. I’d previously always seen them as idol-laden cash grabs. This changed my mind. It’s a show with heart. All the actors aren’t world-beaters, and the final reveal ultimately turned out to have low stakes. But none of that mattered because the world Mr Hong Yu brought on screen managed to feel so alive! That's no mean feat, and I doff my hat to him.
*I Am Nobody* is like no Chinese drama I’ve seen before. Thankfully, season two is now airing. I hope for more of the same. You won't have wasted your time watching the first season.

Modern wuxia adaptation
I love superhero movies and wuxia stories. Hence, it’s fascinating to see superhero movies imbued with Chinese culture, values and history on screen.Like a modern wuxia series, I am Nobody is the typical origin story of a nobody with great power and responsibility that might change the world. Zhang Chulan got wrapped up into the world of Outsiders after his grandfather passed. While his grandfather didn’t utter any legacy quote during his passing, Zhang Chulan quickly found out that more people wants his inherited power for their own use. Fortunately, he met Feng Bao Bao and NDT. Even if they aren’t friends, they at least aren’t foes.
As Zhang Chulan and us understand the world of Outsiders more, more questions arise about the origin of his inherited powers and other equally powerful Supreme Skills, as well as Feng Bao Bao’s origin, someone who seem to be above the Supreme Skills.
The humor is slapstick and over-the-top kind, while not my favorite, it’s something that I can grow fond of as I get more immersed into the world.
However, the story pace seem to “ran out of gas” somewhere in the middle part. Maybe it was a mismatched expectation on my part - I was expecting a story where Chulan slowly gained camaraderie and ally as we get to know more Outsiders. Like the Avengers, they come together to fight the greater evil despite their differences. While there are moments like these, I don’t feel that the camaraderie fits well into the plot and finale. Alas, it’s a story centered on Zhang Chulan and Feng Baobao. If that’s the case, some arc of the stories seem to be like filters, though it gets us to understand the side characters a little more. And since it’s clear the comic is still ongoing, it feels slightly disappointing that the greater mystery still remains a mystery.
Overall, this is an adaptation done well. Peng Yu Chang and Wang Ying Lu are well casted as the main characters. With its action packed story plot, solid characters, and stunning CGI, this is an enjoyable ride.

Light, Funny, and Full Power
I Am Nobody follows the journey of Zhang Chulan, an ordinary young man who enters the hidden world of "Outsiders" (people with extraordinary powers) to uncover the truth behind his grandfather's mysterious death. Along the way, he meets Feng Baobao, a enigmatic girl searching for her real family and origins.This isn't usually my go-to genre, but the great reviews convinced me to give it a try. The first few episodes (1–3) felt a bit rushed and hard to follow, with everything moving too quickly. But once I got a clearer grasp of the plot, it became really enjoyable watch.
The plot is excellent, they do a great job explaining the universe and its rules. There are tons of characters, each with unique superpowers, which adds so much fun and variety. That said, the main characters, Zhang Chulan's superpower journey aren't explored deeply enough for my taste, but since this is only Season 1 and more seasons are planned, there's plenty of time to dive deeper in the future.
This season mainly focuses on Zhang Chulan's personal journey, introduces the world of Outsiders through various characters' backstories, and reveals parts of his grandfather's past. The comedy lands really well, it's witty and quirky without feeling forced. The action scenes are top-notch. The CGI is amazing overall, making the powers and fights look impressive. For acting, Wang Yinglu stands out the most as Feng Baobao, she nails the character's mysterious, emotionless yet captivating vibe perfectly.
Overall, it's a light and easy watch, kind of slow-paced at times but super enjoyable and entertaining

fun to watch, mystery plot aint very good though
I Am Nobody (2023) 8,5/10 -cdramasuperpower wuxia modern drama which makes fun of itself and at same time tries to be mysterious and serious.
Comedy works here very well and I liked these funny dumb scenes.
Fantasy superpower setting and fights made this drama into something alike Moving[shortly fun to watch].
At other hand pseudo mystery and search for answer made me remember one much more worse drama - Psych-Hunter (2020) which was kinda same in way :mystery doesnt means you need logical answer:

I have mixed feelings about this one
I liked this drama but you know the feeling that something was good but you just feel a little unsatisfied because it was so close to being great ? That's how I feel about this one.Let me start with positives:
- Interesting plot
The plot had an interesting setting. Though it was slow, it gradually built the suspense and mystery and made you continue the show
- Great casting
The casting was great. Since it was an adaptation, I saw the original character design and I must say that the live action actors suited their characters really well. The acting of the main leads was also good though some of the supporting cast could've been better
- Good action scenes
While the action scenes could've been more realistic, I didn't mind them. Even the spell positions which usually seem cheesy when done wrong, didn't look awkward and felt natural to the plot setting.
Now lets move onto the negatives:
- Too cartoonish for a live action adaptation.
I know it's an adaptation and the original one had some silly humour and body language, but I wish they refined the character's actions or made it more realistic for the live action adaptation. It would've made the viewers more immersed in the story. The unrealistic slapstick humor took me out of the story sometimes and was cheesy to watch
- The weird pacing
The plot pacing was all over the place. I get that they want to relieve the tension using some humor but the moment they decided to show comedy threw me off. Comedy scenes and serious scenes are introduced at the most unexpected times and I didn't how to feel when watching an episode because it suddenly turns light after being so serious.
Overall, it was an interesting watch and I get why people like this show. For me personally though, it was just fine but was so close to being great. So that was a little regretful. But it was a fun watch. 8/10.

Good storyline
The show had a great storyline however I was not a fan of the ending. I did not really connect to the other parts of the story and felt like I was written in a rush. There were some parts that did not contribute to the storyline however those parts were fun to watch and were a good break from the main storyline. Despite plot holes and some unanswered questions, it is pretty funny and unseriously serious. The actors did an amazing job in portraying each character and the theme song is an amazing listen. This amazing fantasy drama was very surprising, constantly!
Not the usual genre that I would choose, however, I am glad I did.The characters are well written and acted. My favourites were; Zhang Chu Lan who often looks nonchalant whilst tackling his fears, (listen to his words some of his insights are text book psychology and have huge impact on others), Feng Bao Bao her fierce martial art skills and the duality of innocence are wonderfully captured, Wang Ye maintains his aloof monkness but is shaken by visions of a hurtling train full of dead people and Zhan Chu Lan about to approach a catastrophic danger. his role is to try to influence Zhan Chu Lan to give up his quest for past answers.
There is a lot packed into each episode and yet is never felt rushed. The story line is sometimes hard to follow because so much is being revealed but I also like that we as the audience are not underestimated.
Sufficient detail is given to each characters super chi powers and the choreography, cgi and sfx were great.
At the heart I enjoyed this youthful drama because of the friendship and kindness shown amongst the badass action.

Enjoyed I Am Nobody and excited to see part 2 to complete the rest of the story. One of the top series of 2023!The Good
This was a very fun and exciting watch! The plot was very strong and had a great setup with world building and character setups. The comedy was well placed in this fantasy drama and balanced well with the seriousness of some of the situations. The CGI and VFX was done very well and showcased each person’s power really good. I especially enjoyed all the fight scenes because they didn’t only just rely on people standing there with CGI but had actual choreographed fighting as well. The acting was done so well with all the unique characters and each left me engaged and interested in their stories. I also appreciated the OST. Well placed songs throughout.
The Bad
Not too much negative but sometimes there were moments that were too silly and the scenes became a little sidetracked from the story and I wondered about the relevance and where it was going.
This is a high must watch! Would love to see more CDramas created in this genre.

Great Story but with a cliche ending!
Towards the end, all the character and it's developments took a drastic turn directed for a cliche end.. that was unbelievable. Except that... this is an okayish drama. It had great potential... started great... but the further developments were very cliche.I liked some characters, especially the FML and ML... but they spoiled their Arcs. FL character had great potential.. but it was all brought down to just exploring her memory.
ML character could have been utilized more.. towards the end, they gave more importance to side characters than the main leads...
Plot is great. Acting is great. But the developments are poor. Ending is cliche. Like a dragon ball Z ending where all the characters join their hands to defeat the villain.
