A dull sequel

I put this on hold after ep6 and decided to binge watch to the end. Honestly it is disappointing. The story can be written on a paper of cigarette. "Mun's friends is in a sad predicament, and he does everything to save him". End of story. The rest is a lot of useless brutality, violence and fights that become tiring and even unsufferable. The fun is no fun. That new sniffing whining making faces character is not funny at all. The grinning bad guys are either ridiculous and useless or pointless with no real purpose. There is no sense of danger for the good guys as it is like they will always get out of the situation.

I would not recommend this as it tries a lot to impress and entertain with actions, CGI, cheap cornelian dilemma, cheap emotional moments apart from the Ha Na story... But in the end, it was not interesting and not entertaining for me. The actors do the most with the little base material but they can't save this. 6/10.

Worth the Wait!!

This was a wonderful continuation of this series which is rare for a second season. Overall, the writers did a great job making you always guessing what was going to happen next. They also did a great job successfully connecting multiple elements and characters together. Yes, the story had a few inconsistences from the previous season, but it didn’t distract me from enjoying the series. It had a little more gore than the last season which some individuals may not like. However, it does reflect the high stakes the counters were dealing with in this season. My only real complaint is the ending was a little weak for me. The series did a great job introducing all the new characters and their back stories. It was also nice to see many of the supporting characters from the last season. On that note, the entire cast did a wonderful job portraying their characters. The cinematography, special effects, and FX make-up was outstanding.

I feel like they bungled this one :(

I was so amazed by season 1, and I was INCREDIBLY excited for season 2. I feel like it began okay -- I liked the setup for the next all-powerful demon dude, and his two lackeys seemed super interesting -- but the rest of the drama's progression was wonky and everything seemed...convenient or convoluted. I'm really disappointed that the lore didn't hold up the same as it did in the first season (I remember Ms. Chu almost dying because she was healing too much in the previous system -- did that mechanic completely disappear??? she was healing every episode practically), there was a lot more that was left out about who the demons were and how they knew each other (Pil Gwang kept talking about the demon like he knew it, but then auto-killed it when he entered the body of Mr. Ma? so random), and I feel like So Mun was made to be the god of the group, carrying till the finish line. They seemed way more diverse and balanced in the first season, and it was a lot of pressure to put on So Mun to fix everything and be the one who went after the most powerful again and again. They even added a new counter, but he didn't really do anything but serve a single function? Like, don't get me wrong, he was fucking hilarious. But he didn't fight well, he whined a lot, and he just seemed like he was in the way most of the time. Also, what the heck was that ending with Wi Gen and Jade??? That English dialogue was awful and jarring, and it makes no sense that Jade, this random person from Germany, is Wi Gen's daughter. Tf?! Like, did I miss Wi Gen history and that's why this scene makes no sense? Idk, it was such a miss tbh. If not for my admiration of some of the green screen work and the actors themselves (as I've seen them in many dramas at this point), the rating would probably be a five or below.

This Review is 100% me gushing ☺

Yea I got nothing to say other than the fact is I'm crying at the fact it's over... I'm crying at the ending cause I think my soul died a little and most all I'm crying cause now my weekends are gonna be boring as heck. I really wanted this to never end.... that's literally all I have to say on this. It was just spectacular... the only thing bad about this show... IS THAT IT IS ENDING T-T if I had to go full detail on how I felt about this show... I think I would need a 1200 page book (little exaggerated but I mean I really am just star struck) All I can say is a 10/10 recommend (I've already rewatched the first season like 10 times) the rewatch value on this show is totally there and the actor choices were legit perfect for the roles. Loved this so so so much!!! I really just want another season, I need another season ?

A killer continuation!

Season 2 is an absolute hidden treasure despite what others say, going from season 1 to season 2 directly doesn't seem like a different story or characters and people who say otherwise are blinded by the nostalgia factor. I rewatched season 1 before starting season 2 and rewatched the entire thing (both season 1 and 2) and I don't think the writing declined at all, it's the same as season 1 was, so the issue is maybe the fact there's less story -- or deviations of -- no big political conspiracy or random evil spirits popping up during the main conflict.
Still, I think it's unfair to call the continuation "disappointing" as it truly is good and deserves more recognition. It unveils a brand-new narrative teeming with fresh conflicts and intricacies that stand entirely on their own. The characters gracefully navigate through a challenging fallout with Mun's firefighter friend, which allows Mun to evolve and grow even stronger within his extraordinary family dynamic.

Jeok Bong's endearing clumsiness becomes a guiding light that carries the counters through their darkest hours and even he is aware of that. People criticizing him fail to understand this comes from a manga and the character is the same way there as well. If there's a season 3, I'm sure they might take more effort into giving more depth to him, but season 2 delivered what the source material gave them.
The radiant chemistry between So Mun and Ha Na as a younger brother and older sister duo shines brilliantly.

I couldn't help but imagine the exhilaration if Gelly, Wong Yeok, and Pil Kwang had joined the counters or if the Yung territory had flowed effortlessly through So Mun's very being, as depicted in the manga. But I still think it was very good!

The seamless fusion of humor, action, and well-crafted storytelling in Season 2 provides ample space for each element to thrive without overwhelming or causing frustration. It beautifully retains the delightful charm of Season 1, making the second season an effortlessly enjoyable and breezy watch.

To the extraordinary and unparalleled uncanny family, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering dedication and hard work. I'll miss you! <3

confused by negative reviews..

Beginning this review is somewhat challenging, but I started watching the first season out of mild curiosity. While I didn't feel as emotionally connected to it as some of my favorite shows, I found it enjoyable and would often tune in during my free time. When I embarked on the second season, I was delighted to see one of my favorite actors, Insoo, which played a significant role in my decision to continue. The initial episodes felt a bit slow and somewhat obligatory to watch, but not necessarily in a bad way. However, as I progressed through the season, I unexpectedly became deeply engrossed.

In my opinion, the second season marked a substantial improvement. Around the halfway point, I became so emotionally invested that I developed an almost obsessive urge to keep watching. Now that I've finished, I'm feeling a sense of sadness that it's over, but I truly loved the ending. The character development throughout the many episodes was exceptional, and I have grown fond of the cast. I hold this season in high regard and have a great affection for the show. It's a remarkable watch, and I wish I had taken more time to delve into each episode.

Dissappioned as a huge fan of s1

Season 1 was perfect package. Perfect mix of family, friendship, action, high school, crush(whoever sees Hana crush over her?. It's sejeong. Can't help), true love(motak ❤️ jeongyeon), supernatural, superficial elements from Yung and afterlife concepts, both evil spirits and human villains.
I have watched S1 so many times. It's always playing on my TV since my 4 years old daughter also likes so mun and calls him super hero. She started to watch him because I rewatched s1 on our TV a couple of times. And i watched S2 the same way. But she too didn't like it and wanted to play scenes of s1 only.
The actors did a wonder job in s1. But this season its somewhat lacking. And it definitely not the actors fault. But the writing. The writing ruined everything.
Unlike season 1 this season had so much visual efffects, all those colorful things, different dimensions, or whatever, yet there was not one moment when it made me fascinated.. I only had this neutral expression on my face.
I definitely missed the child actor who played DuSik before. I guess, I am to used to seeing only him in that character.
Chairman ChoiJangmul - The writer did dirty to his character in this season after all those badass, cool representation of him in s1. He was first the counter of korea. He successfully completed his role as a counter and retired while many counter die on field. They made his character a clown in this season. He became a punching bag for the evil spirits. ?I am still stuck with the scene of him walking into the police station and punching a parent of a bully who hurt somun.?
Only WiGen's character developed a little. Or maybe the actress who played it is the reason.? The way she is walking in her white costume. The feeling I felt was really divine. Her daughter is so beautiful.
I missed the old Somun???.. His own character traits. The way he was going around ajussi, ajussi, ajussi... That was enough to made me drop this season in middle. I resumed it again a couple days before only. Somun was literally Crazy over MaJuSeok. But there was nothing that explains his obsession with him.
In season 1, i was way too connected with somun character. When he laughs, I'd laugh too, when he cry, I'd cry too. Whatever he felt, I felt the same too. JoByeongGyu is such an actor. But this season didn't give justice to his abilities As an actor. The writing is the problem again.
Dohwi and Hana.❤️❤️❤️The only good thing that happened for me in this season. After seeing only the tough DoHana, seeing this side of Hana was really warming. Her laugh was the highlight. Although she showed a warm side of her in S1. It was still a family like affection with counters. I never really wanted/felt the need of a romantic storyline in s1 since I always felt somun and Hana showed a family like relationship only.
The Actor who played ParkDoHwi. ❤️The writers messed the whole drama but the story of them. How to not ship them when the story is this perfect. ?? The actor is masculine yet cute?. His smile is enough for me☺️. They don't deserve this ending.?
There was this one character I don't have an idea at all. MaJuSeok. I still can't process his character development. Haven't felt a single thing. He was good, became evil, again became good. Yes people tend to be swayed by emotions. But There were not enough scenes that justifies his character in whole. But the story was very much concerned over his ridiculously uncanny abilities. They should have focused more on developing his character. Supposedly, I have to feel sorry for his character.. Felt nothing from beginning to end.
NaJoekBong. Either he is there or not, there is no difference for me. Another neutral feeling.
LimJaeyoul, another saviour character that happened in this. The problem is the execution. Such a warming story. But good thing handled in a sloppy way. Again the actor is super handsome.
Hanul - he played an important role in season 1. Yet he became useless in S2. Another letdown. ?.
HwangPilGwang. - i just don't want to see kangkiyeong as HwangPilGwang again. The actor did his best as villain for sure. But I wish, Woo Young Woo S2 to happen And KangKiYoung to be there.
For the Drama The Uncanny Counter, the vilian is JiJeongSin only.?Evil King
GELLY - character grew more annoying only. She is nowhere near BeakHyanGi. ?
Wong - the most USELESS character to happen in both season combined. But i was really impressed by the actor. Even his looks. him in hair updo playing ruthless killer freaked me and same him in hair down playing a clueless innocent in jail looked cutie. Poor him, don't know WHY HE appeared in the first place and why got cut down in middle.
Now I am afraid of S3 to happen. If its gonna be like S2 again, I wish that S3 should not happen. There was no story to connect with. So many things that haven't made sense at all.
In season 1, there was stories of somun and other counters family and past. The villains had their own stories. Even the victim of the evil spirits had such warm stories. JiCheongSin was able to use Psycokenisis too. BeakHyanGi was able to read memories too.
JiCheongSin captured ParkCheolJung(WiGen's previous partner) soul too. So all these cooking of evil spirits consuming counter soul and acquiring their powers made no sense to me. It's like both seasons are 2 different dramas where the main plot is similar. Like where a S2 if a drama comes with different cast and story but with same concept.
Ost Ready to me became my favourite. Sounds energetic.
The evil spirits keep getting ridiculously powerful and beat the blue out of the counters. The counters with ridiculously annoying talk and talk and talk powers even in middle of a fight. ?

Lost its charm

Likes
1. I still like the counter family, though felt like the season lost its charm. It also seemed like they were still relying on So Mun and they had little growth in their strength except for Hana.
2. I liked the side story of Hana and her first love (but why wear tracksuit on your date??), not so much on Mae Ok's relationship with the kid. Mo Tak is still ny fave counter. Im always scared that Jangmul will die but he always get out alive whew.
3. There was so much potential in the story but they execution wasnt that solid.

Dislikes
1. Jeok Bong was annoying and mostly useless aside from his nose. Too bad coz i like the actor.
2. The villains weren't menacing enough. The fight scenes were also repetitive since they introduced them so early in the story
3. Progression of the story, esp the evolution of the evil spirit just didnt make sense in the last 3 episodes.
4. As usual, Yung people didnt do anything.

Rating: 8/10

I don’t understand why some people hate it!

Judging from the comments I thought that I will really hate season 2. But that didn’t happen at all. I think the reason people find it different from season 1 it’s because we miss the heartbroken story of mun’s parents and Mo Tak’s past. in this season the protagonist isn’t only Mun but the villains as well. The story is more concentrated on the fight with the bad guys than on the personal stories of the Counters. But this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, is just something different. And I think it’s normal when we speak for a second season of something that had already reached the top. Give it a try! I think you will enjoy it.

Terrible comic adaptation

[Minor spoilers for comic]

As someone who’s read the webcomic after watching both tv seasons, the show is bad as both an adaptation and on its own. There are many more counters in the comic. Comic actually has two Korean teams, and they both work together to defeat Ji Chungshin. Yujin, Hansuk, and Beomchan are nowhere to be seen in the show. I would’ve loved to see more counters besides the main cast. The other counters they have in the show get killed off immediately. In the comics, two Chinese counters survive instead of all of them dying.

The counters are also much weaker in the show than in the comics. In the comics, Motak is the strongest counter in all of Asia, and Ms. Chu is one of 5 healers in the world. All of the Korean counters have psychokinesis by the end of season 2 in the comics. Counters only need an hour of sleep a day. They don’t need to sleep all night.

A bunch of storylines in the comic are resolved much more quickly than the show. The show stretches out stuff for so long, and even add pointless storylines.

- Motak doesn’t have a girlfriend in the comic, she was added to the show to be fridged.
- So Mun immediately decided to be a counter in the comic, show So Mun had to sleep on it. Comic Wigen immediately offers to let So Mun see his parents in Yung
- Motak never goes back to being a cop, he has the captain just give him info on cases.
- There are 8 Korean counters in the comic, not just 5
- Evil spirits cannot transfer to new bodies in the comics, that was dumb of the show to do.
- Ji Chungshin is a villain all throughout Season 1 of the comic, and he’s much more ruthless and scary.
- Pilkwang is only a minor villain in the comic, but the show makes him a main villain in season 2.
- Ma Juseok is actually introduced in the comics much earlier than the show. He’s also not a family friend of So Mun, they don’t know each other in the comics. His wife and kid died 7 years before the comic started, not during the story. Comic Juseok was already in prison for killing two scammers
- Hana’s family died because her mom got scammed by the Baekdoo real estate scam in season 2, just like Ma Juseok

The Yung spirits that the counters work with are all different races and ethnicities. Wigen is supposed to be German, and speaks German in Yung and So Mun can understand her. All spirits can talk to each other no matter the language they speak. Wigen speaks German, but So Mun hears it as Korean.

They made So Mun such an arrogant prick in this show. So Mun in the comic is actually pretty humble, and he usually only fights when he has to. Comic So Mun actually apologizes to hosts when he hits them too hard, or he accidentally gets thugs to shoot each other.

So Mun’s friends have bigger roles in the comic, and they actually find out that So Mun is a counter and Ms. Choo doesn’t erase their memories.

The comic is also much more violent and the injures are brutal. So Mun even gets his hand chopped off by Ji Chungshin, and So Mun throws a knife into his Chungshin’s eye. People lose limbs, break their arms and legs backwards, get their eyes gouged out, etc. The violence in the show is so tame.

So Mun’s CD player in season 1 has a payoff in the comic. In the show, it’s just something for the bullies to steal from him.

Jeokbong in the comic was actually useful and immediately agreed to be a counter, show Jeokbong is so annoying and useless. In the comic, Jeokbong was just as fast and strong as So Mun. But the show made him the weakest one.

The comic has such good build up and is suspenseful throughout. So many twists and stuff that I didn’t see coming. The show is so predictable and boring. I can’t wait for Season 3 of the comic to finish so I can read it.
