Kwan Tin Yam, the second son of a wealthy family, falls in love with Lau Ah Choi, a servant in his household, after returning from studying medicine in the city. Despite their mutual feelings, Tin Yam's family opposes their relationship due to her status. When their plan to elope fails, Ah Choi falls into a river and is presumed dead. Heartbroken, Tin Yam leaves for the city, unaware that Ah Choi has been rescued by Fong Shu Gan’s family.
