This is a nice drama with a steadfast romance but the lukewarm romantic chemistry of the leading couple and the “star-crossed lovers” and “for your sake” separation tropes waned the intimate vibe between them. The cast did well delivering their characters but the plot threw some unnecessary evil doers for the sake of unrequited love that felt fake and disconnected. The best moments for the leading actors to shine were the dramatic ones; they did great and brought heart tugging moments to the drama but, overall, the drama didn’t deliver a great romance.

A spoiler-free review of Romance of a Twin Flower

Overall, the story is interesting enough to keep you watching, though it isn't always delivered perfectly. 🤨 At times, the plot lacked logic or felt slightly incomplete. The visuals lean more toward those of a lower-budget drama, but they were sufficient for my taste and didn't detract from the experience. While some of the supporting performances felt unconvincing or weak, I actually grew to love the music and the atmosphere of the show quite a bit! 🤗

Ultimately, my main—and honestly only—reason for watching was Ding Yuxi (the male lead). As always, he absolutely shone in his role and made the entire journey worth it! 🌟👏❤️

Note: I tried to give a fair rating for acting, but my heart didn't allow to give it lower because of Ding Yuxi.

Came for Han Shou, stayed for Ning Yuxuan!

Since there are already great and detailed Reviews by better Reviewers than me, I will try and keep it short and focus on some of the strengths that enabled me to watch this to the End.

As my Title suggests, I discovered the male Lead in Romance of Tiger and Rose and found him so convincing that I decided to check his other Dramas as well. I have watched a couple but dropped them halfway through, only this one I watched to the End and Boy was I rewarded for it.

To spoil it right away, the acting ability of Ding Yu Xi blew me away but more on that later.

The Story is alright. It has some glaring flaws and plot holes that really push the boundaries but it does get countered by the positive Elements. It does have its moments though.

The female lead was at first annoying (especially her voice) but strangely enough, she grew on me and I even liked her at the end. This can be a personal issue though, since I got so used to the insane chemistry between Yu Xi and Lusi in Tiger and Rose, she had quite a high hill to climb.

The supporting roles are overall great. Guo Bai is simply on another level. He does such a good job portraying the "Shadow Guard", tossing in the occasional "comic relief" moments and provide a side Romance that rivals the mains. His romantic partner is also not to be underestimated. She is beautiful (yes more beautiful than female lead imo) and her overall calm but lovely attitude complements Guo Bai perfectly. Overall the cast left nothing to be desired.

Now lets dive in to the main Event, the Boss, the phenomenal, outstanding, brilliant Ding Yu Xi. What an Actor.

In the End, when he seemingly loses his love interest, Yu Xi delivers such a stunningly real scene of utter despair and pain over the loss of his beloved that I basically got Flashbacks watching it. Since I went through something similar (not quite that dramatic but still painful) it was hard for me to watch and even jerked out a tear but boy was I amazed at his delivery. Ding Yu Xi is a talented Actor and he surely can act comedy just as well as tragedy. Looking forward to see more from him. Needless to say, he was one of the main reasons to watch this Drama.

I know this ended up more a "love letter" to Yu Xi than a real Review but I think this talented Actor deserves it.

Conclusion: I enjoyed this Drama Series despite its flaws and would watch it again if time permits.

What a surprise!

Found this gem while looking for some historical romance drama. I was hooked from beginning to end. The acting overall is superb!
Love the chemistry between the leads, it’s all so natural, even though it is the first time I saw the female lead in a drama. I have seen the male lead before in another drama and I find him super cute and his acting is excellent for someone so young.
The storyline is great. Every single scene makes sense and fits perfectly to the whole story.
Love it overall and I highly recommend you to watch it!

I watched this for ding yuxi after seeing love game in eastern fantasy and romance of tiger and rose. Maybe idk my expectations were set too high but this drama was like ok. It's not bad, its not good. It's purely ok. The acting was good, the ost was typical chinese drama ost, but I can't find anything in particular I dislike about it it's just that I had to force myself to keep watching. Which is a large sign that this show wasn't that good. Without egging myself on to continue I would've dropped this show before episode twenty-five hit. I'm glad Ning Yuxuan and Ji Man (Peng Xiaoran) got their happy ending, but idk it just wasn't really to my taste. Oh well, opinions differ I guess. (p.s. I LOVED GUI BAI (He Changxi) AND MISS SHUI (Luo Qiuyun)OMG AHHH) (Ignore my rating for music, unless it's really good I just put a two for everything)

Kisses lacked any feeling

Some very clever writing here and delicious characters. Only a few brief lip-touch kisses with no passion or energy which is really disappointing when the rest of the tension is handled so well.
That said, I binged it in two days because they keep you waiting for those last few episodes to resolve the drama. I hate storylines where all the conflict is sorted too soon and the rest is just writers treading water to the final episode. If kisses had been more passionate (and more of them!) this would’ve been a 10/10 for me.

Beautiful and Enjoyable Love Story

I really enjoyed watching it. I was smiling, giggling and all. mainly ML is really cute, his acting is superb, and his love for her is genuine, In many scenes, I felt like pinching his cheeks LOL.. FL is also nice I liked her character. everything was good, but after 19-20 episodes felt like this didn't need to have 38 episodes because the story is not that complicated. it's just that the characters don't know the conspiracies and who did what but as the audience watching it we already know most of the stuff and we just wait for the characters to know the truth.

There are many chances where they could have avoided/stopped their enemy from doing stuff but they just don't do anything at that time giving them the chance to do more nasty things. for example, Wen Wan, ML always knew what she did (in the beginning) stuff like stabbing herself and blaming it on Ji Man or flogging ji man and her other conspiracies. but as expected ML and FL will forgive and forget whatever these people do very easily.

Anyway, overall it was a really good, enjoyable drama but didn't really need 38 episodes. after 19 episodes even if u skip 15-20 minutes in btw episodes you wont really miss anything. just story gets dragged till 38 episodes.

Worth Watching for Ding Yuxi and Peng Xiaoran’s Chemistry, But One of My So-So Watches

This drama started very strong for me—I was easily absorbed into the storyline, loved the characters, and had very little to criticize, aside from the second lead (she played the petty trope). As the story progressed and the setting moved outside the capital, shifting narratives, the plot began to meander and fizzle out for me.

I still loved the characters and their antics despite the story, and the dynamics and dialogue between the lead roles were perfect for my taste. I thought they embodied their characters beautifully, and at times they even made me cackle. However, the side arcs and minor character storylines didn’t quite land for me. The story eventually found its footing again… sort of… but it never fully recaptured the feel I had at the beginning. Some of the twists and conclusions were interesting to watch unfold, yet overall it still wasn’t as strong as its opening stretch. In the end, I’d say this was an okay watch, but I’m still glad I finished it—especially for the chance to see Ding Yuxi and Peng Xiaoran on screen. I hope they star in another drama as co-leads, as I thought that they had great on-screen chemistry. For me, they felt natural together, and their acting styles complement as well.

"春闺梦里人" - "Romance of a Twin Flower"

A well written drama and well performed by all the actors and actresses, especially the main characters, but also the others have made this drama a complete success.
The director and the screenwriters should be proud for having be able to create such story, in fact the story is so realistic and beautiful. The dialogues are refined and everything is done with passion, love and dedication. The watchers cannot make any expectations about what will happen.
The composer has written instrumental musics and songs that are the best that i ever heard. It seems that they have done this romatic drama series beginning from the songs.

Hate love relationship

I'm all for hate to love stories. I enjoy the banters between the main characters. The FL acting feels so...modern, if that makes sense? I feel like much of her gestures and facial expressions are something that I would do too if I was given the same lines and situations. She is an unguarded but self-reliant woman, nothing annoyingly weak. He is caught off guard with his wife's drastic change of character and needs to step up his trick game to face this new personality. Naturally some scenes are silly and many loopholes but so far I really enjoy this show. I have watched 11 episodes non stop and now I have to go to sleep, unfortunately.

Another one that starts great but then goes downhill

Im really sad to drop this as I've been excited to watch this for the cast and waited for it to be complete so i could binge watch - in the end i didnt even get past ep 10.

I'm especially disappointed with the writing of FL. In the first episodes they showed us her strong personality and quick wits. I loved the episode where she quickly figured out the arsonist. That episode promised me a smart independant woman with quick thinking, also one who would bite back if she was wronged.

Throughout the next few episodes she kinda felt dumbed down (save for when she built her businesses). I especially hoped to see the quick witted woman again in the episode when the Priggish scholars spread rumors about her, instead she came out like a fool after trying to deal with them. So what do you do when others wrong you? Go to hubby dearest of course and that's how it was handled, even though she was perfectly capable of doing so herself. Which brings me to another point.

So after the episode where she was WRONGLY flogged, she tries to divorce ML. In my opinion, she should've tried harder. She had so many chances to run from him, especially when he was down and injured. Even if it wasn't him who ordered her to be flogged, she THINKS it was him and she's so very valid for feeling angry and humiliated. She shouldn't have gotten over it and forgiven him so easily. She basically got flogged for NO REASON at all and they just sweeped it under a rug. I dont know if it's mentioned later on in the drama again but that should've been a bottom line, he should've had a harder time earning her love (even if it wasnt his doing she THINKS so and thats the main point).

The Usual Messy Simplicity

Nothing you haven't seen a hundred times before. Twin girls split up at birth, the bad one dies, the good one loses her memory and takes on the bad one's identity. Both sisters are the children of the man who killed the ML's father.

Really, the usual melodrama tropes of mistaken identity. Super drawn out, and super boring. I don't like the actor that plays the ML, but I did think he was good in this. The actor that plays the ML scowls when he's angry, he scowls when he's sad, he scowls when he's happy. I need more than that. I don't even think he's good looking for a ML. He just seems juvenile at all times and I want more than that from a ML. The script, not the acting was the biggest flaw of this drama. My goodness this is a boring melodrama! Completely predictable and incredibly boring.
