on paper the plot was good, but it could've been executed so much better. i genuinely don't remember watching this show, like even a week after. it wasn't really as memorable as the other stuff i've watched. but maybe i judge it too harshly. i loved the scenes in school and the story itself is cool and also the artwork is insanely good and the ending was neat. its just that none of it really stuck with me. (maybe because i relate too much to ji ung and have decided to block that from my mind). the music i very much did not like though.Was this review helpful to you?
Our Beloved Summer
Just finished watch this Drama for the 3rd time. It´s so beautiful , one of the best for sure !! Main couple with wonderfull chemistry, lots of good suporting actors/actresses , beautifull OST soudtrack and photogaphy.The way the Drama takes care of the subject "love" it´s real and well done
The way the jump 10 years in time it´s very well done too. In both period of time tha interest of the story keeps the same good level.
Kim Da Mi is a top actress any part of the world. Choi Wook Shik it´s the perfect mate and wins a lot playing role with her (like in "The Witch")

Just amazing
Very beautiful drama. One of my best rom/com dramas. There is love, hate, friendship, romance, everything. Such a great drama.I don't remember how I stumbled onto this drama but I am really happy that I found this drama.
The actors are great, very talented and the characters suit them very well.
if you are like me who enjoys rom/com dramas a lot then I highly recommend this drama to you. This drama fits really well in the rom-com genre. I would actually put this drama in the list of top 5 best rom-com k-dramas of all time.

eveeeerything about this drama is so beautiful, honestly. it’s well-written, amazing soundtracks/osts, great casting and acting, wonderful scenery !!!<3 && our beloved summer proved to us that gentle, soft, and calm men are so attractive. they make you feel secured and reassured. they aren't boring and they’re usually deep and just by talking them eases all your internal worries! their aura overall just screams peace and comfort. huh i love kook yeonsu & choi ung sm! 🤍🤍🤍our beloved summer will always have a special place in my heart

Our Beloved Summer (10/10)I've rewatched this drama 5 times. Back when it was airing, I watched it every week while waiting for each episode to drop. I don't know why I'm writing this now on my 5th rewatch, but I just wanted to do it.
I love this drama so much because every episode either makes me emotional or gives me butterflies in my chest. When an emotional scene comes up, the acting, the music choices, and the cinematography just hit different. I always bawl my eyes out, especially during episodes 1–7 when they have their misunderstandings. And the sweet moments always give me butterflies—I notice myself just smiling like an idiot at a love story that can't be mine.
The Characters & Dynamic
I love how different Choi Ung and Kook Yeon-soo are, but they're still attracted to each other like puzzle pieces made for one another.
The OSTs
I love all of the OSTs, but if I have to pick my top three, they would be:
V – "Christmas Tree"
BIBI – "Maybe If"
Lee Seung-yoon – "The Giving Tree"
Those top three always stick in my head, but I love all the other tracks too—like "Drawer" by 10cm, "There For You" by Kim Na-young, "Summer Rain" by Sam Kim, and "I Will Make You Happy" by Jang Beom-june.
The Documentary Style
I enjoyed the documentary aspect a lot. The thought of being a producer or a cameraman gives me a dream. I don't know why, but I've always liked creating content even though I feel like my mind isn't that creative. Holding a camera and capturing other people's lives and my own personal life seems like the most fun thing.
Even though I'm stuck in my room right now doing nothing, dropped out of college, unemployed, and not knowing what to do anymore—just sleeping, eating, and watching dramas—I just wish I could reset my life. Going back to the beginning and trying to be a producer or a cameraman would be enough. Maybe living in this country doesn't give you opportunities like that, or maybe I'm just not okay in the head. But it's just a dream I want to pursue. Maybe someday.

A drama that tugs at your heartstrings
Our Beloved Summer chronicles the two lives of Choi Woong and Kook Yeon Soo as they meet in high school while filming a documentary, fall in love and then meet again 10 years later post a painful breakup and after having no contact for 5 years. The story alternates between present day and the past as you find out what happened between them and as there are new developments in their relationship in present day.While it is a romance drama, the show also really dived into both of their individual lives and what made the characters who they were... their upbringing, their family, the way that they present themselves to the world and how that was a result of their history. It's definitely an emotional show and I feel like I cried a lot but you do really get to know the characters and they all grow so much.
I liked the friendship between the two "Woongs" and it was so heartwarming seeing how Choi Woong welcomed Ji Woong into his family and pretty much gave him a home. I was NOT expecting the big plot twist / reveal near the end but my boyfriend predicted it so maybe I'm just not good at picking up subtle hints. Regardless I feel like the writers / director were very clever with how they chose to reveal things and with the flow of the show.
Even before I watched the show, I listened to Christmas Tree by V because it was so popular and it really did fit the show so well. Beloved Summer has probably one of the best OSTs I can recall in recent shows that I've watched.
I also liked NJ's character a lot. She was really fun and I looked forward to her scenes and how they added to the story. I also like that she was a decent person, despite being the second female lead and she didn't do anything shady.

Wanted to love it but I couldn't
I went in with a lot of expectations as it was hot and trending all over for its melancholic and sentimental vibe but it did not satisfy my expectations.It started off nice with the previous documentary being all happy with the 'young days' vibe. I was starting to enjoy it but then it became repetitive as they kept taking a step forward while opening their feelings to each other and then immediately regretting it and avoiding it the next day. I wanted them to not regret their conversations for once.
It had the healing vibe but could have been better. The ML didn't realize his true desires and goals in life until the last which was a bit frustrating and it was wrapped up quickly. The SML could have had a nice happy ending with the one who loved him too but it was a bit regretful not to see that on screen.
Overall, it is not worth all the hype. It is better to go in as any regular without too much expectations.

One of the best romance kdramas ever
This is one of my absolute favorite Romance kdramas aside from it's okay to not be okay but they both have similar feels. They both have childhood trauma, healing together, etc. Though these two k-dramas have completely different vibes, energy, and feels but regardless, this is an amazing series that I've watched 10+ times.I went through childhood trauma myself where I was severely abused from the age of 4 until I was 14 in a government facility, so this really resonates with me. Dramas like this are very special to me and not to mention, I am in HSP, so I cry every episode.
I never ever ever listen to OSTs but this series is an exception! I have it on my Spotify and listen to it frequently and it's the only OST that I listen to!
It's a very beautiful series that you should give a chance if you enjoy watching people grow and heal and do it together they find themselves and each other and the ending couldn't be more perfect.

Originally written on Apr 02, 2022K-Dramas are so dumb, in a good way. Our Beloved Summer is the perfect example. After the first episode, it is incredibly predictable how the story is going to develop. You know right away that they’re getting back together. It’s obvious some people are going to try to come between them. Things from their past are coming back to haunt them. It’s all so... by the numbers. Yet, it’s still so much fun to watch and find out if you’re right or if the show has some surprises in store for you.
Our Beloved Summer is such a good comfort watch. Its premise is very interesting, following two people, Kook Yeon-su and Choi Ung, who met each other while shooting a documentary many years ago. Things turned sour, which led to them losing touch. It’s a lot of fun to see how they change throughout the years, growing up while growing more and more apart. When faith leads them to each other again, their adventure starts anew, and it’s very sweet to see them try to figure out their past and try to salvage whatever’s left of their broken relationship.
As with a lot of K-Dramas, Our Beloved Summer is a couple of episodes too long. When it seems that the story is nearing its end, a wrench gets thrown into the works to stretch it out considerably. This should’ve been 12, maybe 13 episodes tops, which would’ve helped a lot with the pacing. Yet, by the time the credits rolled, I wish I could spend more time with these people, because they are just so much fun.

A Drama that Warms Up Quite Nice
Our Beloved Summer is a wonderful drama that does a fantastic job in telling the story of a cast of characters that have such a deep history that they share with actors that do a perfect job in selling that dynamic. I have to say I was initially put off with the first few episodes with how the main leads, Ung and Yeon Su were when interacting especially the main female lead, Yeon Su regarding how cold and distant she was as a female lead. But the drama didn't linger around that personality for far too long and explained her disposition and why she acts the way she does. The main male lead Ung was an extremely relatable and down to earth lead that was instantly connectable for me within the very first episode.The secondary love interests were good however I found Ji-Ung to be a sort of detestable character that had no real redeemable qualities. Most if not all of his actions towards his best friend were completely reprehensible. He has to be one of the worst secondary love interests I have ever seen. But the secondary female love interest, NJ, was such a breath of fresh air when it came to the secondary love interest category. Her bright and charming personality made me look forward to her scenes every episode and while Ji-Ung's detestable loathsome actions, NJ made up for it with her admirable pleasant actions. The rest of the supporting cast was enjoyable and did a great job in carrying along the story both inside and outside the main plotline.
The one thing this drama did absolutely perfect was allowing for the relationship of Ung and Yeon Su to have screen time. Dramas tend to only have the final episode or two be the time period where the main characters relationships to have screen time which unfortunately causes a lot of crunch time, however this drama started, well, re-started the relationship many episodes before the end which allowed the two main characters to interact in such a refreshing and lovely way.
The OST was perfect with great songs from 10cm, Ha Sung Woon, Kim Yung Hee, and especially The Giving Tree by Lee Seung Yoon. I'll definitely be listening to this drama's OST for months to come. The cinematography and quality of the drama was perfect as well, I like the way the drama presented the past, present, and recent memories with the different filming styles from the full screen to widescreen formats.
One final thing, also the drama definitely delivered on one thing, Ung's final drawing and who his first ever person he would draw. That made this drama an instant classic for me. I would 100% recommend this to everyone and definitely would be revisiting this to rewatch in the near future.
