Story portraying so called "The Dog in the Manger" - someone who keeps something that they do not want in order to prevent someone else from getting it. Shigekichi, an older man, wanders the city, thereby isolating himself from his family. At the same time, he makes friends with young girls from the area. However, every time one of them starts to approach a man, Shigekichi becomes aggressive towards the couple and does everything to separate them.
