"Ren Yu" aka "Run Away Princess" is a show that truly sticks with you, long after the credits roll. It delves into some incredibly heavy topics like poor parenting, bullying, murder, and sexual assault, but it balances these dark themes with elements of friendship, found family, and the enduring power of hope.

The story follows Su Lin, a young girl desperate to escape her bleak city life and pursue a college education. Her hopes are dashed when she's bullied and thrown into a sewer by her classmates. Down in the darkness, she's forced to learn how to survive, all while trying to figure out what "home" really means.

It's an emotional journey that leaves you feeling drained, but in the best way possible.

What makes this show so powerful is its unflinching portrayal of society's realities. We see parents who believe covering up their child's wrongdoing is protection, those too afraid to stand up for their own kids, and others who are overly suffocating.

Amidst this, the show highlights finding light in the darkness, resilience, and the strength to start anew, even when you lose your identity and have to cope with immense trauma. It's a raw and honest look at the world, and it's precisely this unfiltered realness that can be uncomfortable, leaving the viewer emotionally exhausted. It’s a scary world, no doubt, but it’s also a world where children are often forced to become their own protectors when the adults in their lives fail them.

The characters, whether good, bad, or somewhere in between, feel incredibly real, evoking a range of emotions from hate and frustration to understanding and love.

The writing is sharp and raw, skillfully weaving together its complex themes. And the acting? Phenomenal. Huang Yang Tian Tian's portrayal of Su Lin is absolutely breathtaking; her resilience and strength, even at her breaking point, make you root for her every step of the way. Her emotional breakdowns are particularly moving, and honestly, I found myself crying with her.

The entire cast deserves applause for bringing this powerful story to life with such amazing performances.

While it's a heavy watch and not for the easily triggered.

Ancient Chinese Drama of princess who wants to escape from a forced marriage

Emperor Zhao Zhen of Song Dynasty is struggling with his identity as the son of a palace maid later adopted by the Empress under his father, the Emperor's order. He is not allowed to see his birth mother and has hostility at being unable to rule due to the influence of the empress dowager and prime minister. His sense of injustice is heightened as time goes on and decisions that he makes for good backfire. The FL wants to help him, but does not want to live in the deep palace. This is a very well done series both in script, cast and authenticity. The actors are believable and the constumes seem to fit the time.

Me deixou sem palavras. Eu terminei com lágrimas e com raiva de um sistema falho. Extremamente forte, perturbador e necessário, mas definitivamente não é para qualquer pessoa. Então, minha dica do coração é que se você é sensível a conteúdos envolvendo violência, abuso e crimes contra mulheres, assista com cuidado. Eu terminei sem conseguir definir exatamente o que senti e só sei que esse drama ficou na minha cabeça e no meu coração. É um drama extremamente pesado, sensível e doloroso, que mexe com emoções difíceis de explicar.

A prota é extremamente forte, mas também extremamente vulnerável. Ela sofre dentro de casa, sofre bullying na escola e o inglês pra ela era como refúgio, uma esperança, talvez? E, ao longo da história, somos confrontados com temas que infelizmente não pertencem apenas à ficção: mulheres vulneráveis sendo alvo de pessoas cruéis, famílias manipuladas pelo dinheiro, pessoas tentando controlar o sistema e crimes sendo abafados por quem tem poder.

O que mais me doeu foi perceber que existem tantas camadas nessa história, que não é apenas sobre os crimes, mas sobre empatia, justiça, manipulação, vulnerabilidade e até onde uma pessoa pode ser levada pelas circunstâncias. E mesmo sentindo toda a perturbação do Vicente e entendendo o quanto ele também foi manipulado, não dá para ignorar que o que ele fez continua sendo um crime. Acho que esse é o ponto do drama, não entrega sentimentos fáceis.

Chorei em vários episódios porque é impossível não pensar que situações assim ainda acontecem. A mensagem que ficou para mim é sobre pessoas que só querem viver e serem livres, mas acabam sendo impedidas por pessoas cruéis e por um sistema que muitas vezes falha em protegê-las. Uma mãe solo tentando não perder a guarda e mantendo seus princípios pra que a filha cresça com dignidade, um mendigo com um passado perturbado, uma adolescente sofrendo bullying e violência psicológica em casa. São tantas dores pra um sistema que da espaço pra quem tem poder, conhecimento, ganância e dinheiro.

É um drama que fala sobre dor, mas também sobre proteção, justiça e a importância de ter alguém ao seu lado, mesmo quando você não sabe que tem. De ter um norte quando tudo que você vê é a escuridão. Acredito que no fim, todos responderam por seus crimes e todos encontraram o fio de esperança, que no fim é o que nos move, o sentimento de pertencer, de ser visto, de ser amado.
