Realistic romance-action drama
I am really shocked to see low-scoring reviews for this drama. It has everything you want. It has bromance, romance, and action. The acting is great. Both lead and support actors/actresses are nailing their parts. The pace of the drama is realistic. It is a modern drama, and as a result, nothing magically happens. It takes time for emotions to be developed and mature. If you follow the pace of the drama, you will cherish every little development between the leads. I believe people who drop this drama or don't find it satisfying are the ones who are skipping along the episodes and missing important hints.
My advice is to take your time watching this drama, experience the lead's ups and downs with them, and you will have a magical time riding their emotional waves. This is a masterpiece.

Love Torn Apart
Once I saw this was another heroic firefighter series I thought of ADWTF series that ended not long ago. As beautiful of a story it was, I could not stay awake long enough to get through an episode. This is a different path and a little bit more interesting. I find myself staying awake and I binged the entire first 8 episodes.
It has backstories that need addressing of course but nothing to in depth that it leaves missing links. It tells the story of a young love divided by stations and separated by family. They both or heroic in their own way and resentment and hatred triggers hidden feelings that were buried away.
The connection the ml has with his coworkers/brothers in uniform are similar to most series with that setting.
Fl struggles to get her footing with coworkers due to her station at no fault of her own. Yet, I will say she does have a DGAF attitude about how you feel towards her, (while on her path to success for her career) in which I love.
FL only weakness is the ml Song Yan and her not being able to walk away from a very toxic family. I mean her mom used mental abuse to train and instill fear that followed her brother and herself well into adulthood. Yes, their mom and father are prime examples of Narcissistic Parents. Big brother is just as confused and suffers just as much if not more but you will learn why.
The two leads do have chemistry. It's not as deeply rooted as one would like it to be, but there is some chemistry between the two leads. There is one scene where Xu Qin seems to be pouring her heart out and she was very much in character. However, SY has a very one-dimensional look that showed little emotion besides a frown here and there. If it were not from XQ I could not truly believe they had a deep connection in the past or present. Butttt there is room for character development with his emotions and connecting.
I am not a fan of either lead but I have seen their work.
Yang Yang - is great at frowning and looking serious and also confused. Yet he has a great smile when he decides to. However, it does not really add the emotion needed for some scenes with her. This is probably because his character has been hurt and does have a career that could possibly end his life as well as others at any given moment.
Wang Churan- is great at looking like she has not one emotion which is again, what her character calls for in the beginning.
She received little love growing up. She was probably traumatized. (You will later learn why she’s so obedient as an adult even when her best interests are at stake.) She does however show emotions when faced with the ml. That would make sense since she has only experience happiness while with him. Her character also calls for an empty shell of a person trying to reconnect with what made her smile so many years ago. I must say she has bodied that type of character and I’m sure it’s what the producers had in mind when they casted her for the role. She may need characters that take her away from her comfort zone.
So, my only concern would be their chemistry and not how they look with coworkers. I mean who smiles while trying to save a life. That would be awkward, I think.
It’s cute, funny, loving, calming, refreshing and enjoyable. It can make a great go to after a very intense series when you need something more calm and relaxing in the storytelling approach. Their love seems to be very meaningful to them both and that's always an interesting outlook.
Pros
•CGI is pretty good.
•Plot seems to be pretty decent.
•Love involves only two people for now. (May change)
•Producers and crew seemed to have worked hard.
•Actors are doing phenomenal. ( most are seasoned)
•Shows the risk the firefighters take and the importance.
•No ridiculously complicated script that needs analyzing over and over.
•It also doesn’t give you too many accident scenes to tug on your emotions.
•It’s all about the characters and their growth in work, family, career, life, and love.
•Rewatch value is highly as of now
Cons
•Seen it once you have seen it twice. (Similar stories have been done several times)
• It has 40 episodes so drama is heading our way.

Love at first sight, reconcile 10 years later between two Individuals of Noble Profession.
It’s love at first sight for ML in their teenage years, both 19. FL reciprocate the love but wasn’t brave and strong enough to defy her family. She left him but her heart never love again. ML tried but FL’s family is powerful, influential and did some unscrupulous act to harm ML, leaving him broken. But he also never gave up on his love for her and he choose to never love again. Till they reconciled by accident 10 years later, she is a medical doctor and he is a firefighter. Fate and time and time they were brought together and their love for each other continues to grow. FL wants to pursue ML but she still struggles with lack of bravery and courage to break her family ties thinking she is indebted to them. She is an adoptive child and was grateful of her adoptive parents providing for her, hence she struggles with intense guilt, till she discovered what her adoptive mom has done to harm ML and their love for her is conditioned and not genuine. ML is also an adopted child by his uncle’s family. His own father was an alcoholic who died in accident and his mom abandoned him, however his adoptive family provides secure and healthy love allowing ML to grow up with a lot more courage and resilience, hence he understands FL struggles and wanted to be her strengths. The catalyst of their relationship happened from ep 25 onwards, due to a major earthquake, both learnt they can’t live without each other and reconciled finally. After that, the rest of the series, there will be a few more incidents involving change in FL’s adoptive brother and parents. I love that at least this drama didn’t make an ultimate villain out of FL’s adoptive family. It gave the audience a chance to learn how they can also change and reconciliation is possible. Both leads’ love strengthen over time and their passion in their profession continue to flourish.Although the romance is the core, it’s not the only emphasis here, be prepared for the slow burn, but worth the wait as their romance from ep., 25 onwards is steaming hot!
Verdict:
A well written story of growth, finding your own voice and believing in love. Of all the other drama with firefighter as profession, I would say this is the best! With brotherly love, family values and love, relationship and character growth, as well as believable rescue mission. Of course strong message on the pride represented in the profession too.
Some thoughts:
Faithful love is hard to come by. It does feel that the story stemmed from showing the FL’s perspectives as victim and flaws in her character resulting in her needing ML more. ML is just purely one track mind and obsessed with her. That’s the only part I find unrealistic, ML’s obsession for FL, he can easily find another woman, but he didn’t as script requires. He just have eyes for her, and it does feel that his existence is a blessing for FL as he truly rescue her from her dysfunctional family and help her grow. As a viewer I can see that FL has strengths but was uncovered because of ML. As mentioned in the drama, at an earlier ep. 11, FL feels and said she doesn’t deserve him, and she will harm him as she is not brave enough, which is very insightful and true in some perspectives.
However as the story progresses, it shows her growth in character and strength, learning to attune to her own needs and learning to love, as well as learning to be an independent adult through various events and experiences of her profession. ML to me, written here was flawless, I may be bias as because he is Yang Yang. Lol! Although ML was slightly rebellious in young age, he grew to take responsibility for self, family and the profession he hold prideful of.
Both Yang Yang and Wang Chu Ran are a beautiful pair. Chemistry is great.
The drama does have a lot more emphasis on the firefighter profession and medical doctor. Seeing so many of these theme in drama recently, I can’t help to wonder China really needs people to be inspired to take up this profession. the rescue mission were quite well filmed and realistic. The cameo of many familiar faces from cast of Glory of Special Forces were fantastic, can see their good teamwork with Yang Yang. And then the surprised good few episodes portraying strong brotherly relationship between Zhang Bin Bin and Yang Yang were very heart warming.

Rollercoaster of Emotions w/a Wicked Witch
Watched this for Yang Yang and the first responder/natural disaster aspect it. I followed this drama as it was filmed last year and was very much looking forward to it. For the most part, it didn't disappoint. It was a rollercoaster ride of emotions and even had a list compiled for the most hated character.Pros: Favorite character was SY or ML; his bark was worse than his bite. As a captain at a fire station, he had to be cool and aloof but he was kind and caring to those whom he cared about the most. When it came to FL that was the only time when he could forgo the world. In the beginning, she chased after him and he didn't want to give in because it meant she might find out the truth. The chemistry between the two of them was very believable. Loved the fire station gang, the other doctors and nurses, and was extremely sad when they lost DP closer to the end. That scene really did require tissues. All of the characters were very well evolved throughout. FL's adoptive brother was creepy as heck for his obsession but I am glad he was given that out towards the end so they could remain family. SJ was very important to the series and to the audience and ZBB played him very well. When he left and was replaced by someone else, all those emotions and changes really made it real.
Who could forget the wicked witch of the west aka the adoptive mom of FL as the main antagonist. I have to give the actress props for acting as well as she did; none of us could stand her. Furthermore, she's only 59 in real life but makeup made her look 70. We all hated her so much, I created "The Kill List" in the comments and the other watchers were very creative in how to kill her. We got to 17 ways and as promised I'll post it here:
"The list is back ONE LAST TIME! We need to kill the wicked witch. So, let’s see how many more ways we can kill her! Our end list looks like this:
1. Drowning in her own pool
2. Melting her with high pressure water
3. Throwing her in the river
4. Leaving her broke and desolate without any power.
5. Leaving her to suffocate when her office building goes up in flames.
6. Broke, desolate, without power in a sewer line.
7. Leave her in the mountains with lots of poisonous snakes and things.
8. Skin her alive.
9. Alpaca pushes the bookcase on her head in a smelly apartment and runs away while WW starves to death and loses her dignity because no one saves her.
10. Gets accused of treason and tortured then executed.
11. Death by 1,000 tarantulas.
12. Tie her to a chair and drill holes into her ever so slowly until a vital organ is hit.
13. Glue her barefoot to a chair and the floor, let the sprinkler system douse her with gasoline and chuck a lighter at her.
14. Suffocation by firefighter foam.
15. Drink snake venom while being whipped.
16. Send the picture and frame into the wicked witch’s head instead of the floor like a missile.
17. Leave her trapped in the tunnel during the typhoon; rescue everyone else."
The comedy was also good and the FL finding out the truth was much needed. I'm happy I got spoilers from the novel readers on when the series would deviate or not, but though not the same issues as in the novel, SY did suffer extremely at the hands of the wicked witch and her connections and I'm proud of FL for growing a backbone and standing up to that crazy old bat! I do wish ZM made her kneel all the way though. Sorry not sorry.
The rescues for the most part were very realistic though I wish they used stunt doubles for many of those scenes instead of doing it themselves. I remember seeing the explosion balcony scene when it was leaked online last year after filming and it was nuts. Both natural disasters were alright, though I wish they used more expensive CGI for them. OSTs, costumes, sets and locations were all on point.
Cons: Though the wicked witch was a great antagonist, giving her a redemption arc unlike the novel was garbage. I felt it was just bad and the drama took a hit for that; because there was no way anyone who's done that much damage to other people should just be forgiven without any jail time that we saw. So in my head, I pictured after the last episode, she'll be found guilty and sent to prison.
The ridiculous propaganda and where they put it was really bad. Like who carries their brigade's flag to the scene of an earthquake? This ain't the Olympics. You're there to rescue people not parade around. And considering how often the speechifying occurred in the middle of really random conversations, you'd think they'd be a bit more knowledgeable in first aid like CPR. How is it that in a fire and rescue house, there're no paramedics or EMT's? Yet the fire department is responsible for crowd control which is the police's job. It was all very confusing. You have two different numbers for police and for the fire department. But when you need all three, then what happens?
Also very obvious that the aftershocks many times were done by the actual actors shaking themselves and the surgical equipment plus table. The typhoon seemed to just be like a bad flood instead of what really happens inside a typhoon/hurricane. It was like they could just drive when they wanted and the wind and rain would stop periodically. Like I mentioned above, CGI needs to be better. So that also bumped the score down.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely. The story is for the most part well done other than those cons which you can more or less overlook. The cast did a great job, so get ready for a rollercoaster ride of emotion with a wicked witch in the center.

Just because of my Yang Yang
Ughhhh.... This is the 2nd time this year that I just feel so d*mn tired after watching drama. If not for my Yang Yang, I already drop this after a few ep in.... The 5⭐️ score really just grace because of my Yang Yang, if not I don't know how much I gonna give this drama score. This is also the 2nd time this year that I so d*mn tired with the characteristic of the FL. How much I wanna slap & shaking Xu Qin (XQ) for making such stupid decision. Yeah yeah I know that's how she raised by her evil mom her whole life. But I also wanna shake & punch Song Yan (SY) for let himself be degraded over and over by XQ mom. And SY did all that thing with the stupid reason, in the name of love.... OMG.... So tired with this kind of people sometimes.
The best thing that happen in this drama is SY's family. Oh one great family they are. But also a little bit too perfect actually. After all the thing that XQ's mom did to them, they just easily receive XQ with open heart & open arms to their family. The only one that kinda represent my feeling is Zhai Miao, especially after the incident with Meng Yan Chen.
Oh and also the ending... OMG they really want to make a pretty ending. With everything good, pretty & beautiful in the end... They like make every grudge just disappear in the end. & everyone on board with SY & XQ relationship & their wedding plan. UGH!!!! OMG write about this drama alone already make me so tired....
At the end very disappointed with the drama overall, even the chemistry between Yang Yang & Wang Chu Ran not so much too... My suggestion just watch other drama...

For YY fans only
The script is nothing new & dialogue is boring. The ONLY reason to watch this is for YY fans. If you are average YY fan then "You are my Hero" is similar to this but with way better characters & dialogue.Nothing against the actors but you can only do so much with a boring script.
FL has no reasons to be so timid in front of the mom
FL has zero personality based on the script
Creepy bro has no reason to be so possessive of FL
ML is overly cold towards FL
FL's adoptive mom is a must skip
Only positive is the actual rescue parts. Very patriotic and something to be wished for actual rescue workers.
Strong supporting characters but with little screen time.
Why is Vin Zhang ONLY a guest role?
Sadly this drama failed expectations. Watch "you are my hero" instead.

Should have dropped
Review @ ep20.So this was on my watchlist because I like YangYang but dang.
There is so many things wrong with this drama and IMO the only good thing about this drama is the visually appealing casts and their camaraderie with each other and also some of the emotionally charged rescue scenes.
So far this drama doesn’t really care about details/continuity and also getting proper procedures right. I am by no means a medical professional or a firefighter but even I can tell a lot of things that has happened so far didn't seem right and is so unbelievable and unrealistic but I guess the emotional tug of it is canceling out the lack of realism for a lot of people.
Then let’s get to the main leads, I love YangYang but the constant stoic frowny face was not giving at all. Sometimes his expressions were over the top and not adequate for the corresponding scene.
That face worked in Who Rules The World because he was supposed to be shrouded in mystery as Prince Feng Lanxi with the alter ego of Hei-Fengxi, it didn’t work that well in You Are My Glory but the script/plot in that one was better and also the chemistry/maturity of the characters covered up for it. I guess YangYang equates serious/intense with Stoic/frowny face.
But in this one I can barely feel any chemistry between the leads (which is surprising considering the rumor that they are dating). We are being told that they have this epic love that has made both of them stay single and maybe even celibate for 10years but I just can’t see it in the present time, we can’t see why they like each other because they end up fighting after almost every conversation and don’t seem to have the same life ideals and values. Even the flashbacks we’ve been shown so far doesn't really show me this epic love story, it was cute and all for a high school romance but nothing so life altering in the way it’s being presented in the present time. So honestly it doesn’t really make you care about the lead’s getting together. How many high school romance make it all the way?
The FL is basically suffering from Stockholm syndrome with her family and I seriously get the trauma she is dealing with but some of her character portrayal doesn’t make any sense. She’s very weak/meek towards her mom which is very understandable according to the storyline so far. But I don’t get why she is sassy/bold with the ML one minute but whenever they get into the rinse/repeat rollercoaster scene that has been their interactions for the last 20eps where they have the we can’t together because I don’t have the courage to fight for you but I will be stalking you and asking you why you aren’t seeking me out all the time & fighting for me even though I am the one that can’t commit to the relationship because of my family conversation and she’s uttering this words in the most lowest voice possible with downcast eyes and pathetic/demur demeanor.
I honestly tolerated the pathetic/weak/timid/demur characterization of the FL because of the upbringing she had but my tolerance level went to ZERO after the supermarket scene in ep20. The female lead had always not only stood up to her creepy delusional brother prior to that scene but also even lashed out at him but all of a sudden we are supposed to accept her acting terrified/petrified of him in the supermarket all because of a freaking bag of chips, puhhhhh-lease. That scene made zero sense and was done for no other reason than the ML and the FL’s brother to have a testosterone filled pissing contest and for the ML to be the hero and save the day by rescuing the FL and honestly it was just beyond ridiculous.
I should have dropped this drama but I will complete it with the help of the fast forward ⏩ button and except you really like any or both of the leads or you just want to watch a fire fighting show where you don’t really care about accuracy and correct details/procedures then go ahead and watch this otherwise I strongly advise you to not bother with this.
Updated review after completion.
Even with the fast forward ⏩ this was a struggle to finish. It didn’t get worse by any stretch of the imagination and although there were lots of cute scenes and heartbreaking scenes that tugged at the heart, for me it didn’t get any better either.
Typical CDrama kumbaya ending. It’s so weird that a wedding was talked about so much in lots of episodes but there was now no wedding at the end of the drama, I don’t really understand the directional decision on that but honestly I don’t even care because I was just happy to finally finish the drama and put it in the forgotten pile.
The drama just had lots of doom and gloom and the romance while cute at times was very muted for an adult based drama so it didn’t even balance out all the heaviness of the doom and gloom.
I definitely won’t ever be rewatching this. Like I said earlier except you are a HUGE fan of either of the leads or want to watch a highly questionable “right procedural” fire fighting and error filled medical show, by all means have at it, if not, do yourself a favor and don’t bother with this.

Borderline Chinese Romeo & Juliet (With hopes of a Happy Ending) ^_^ (Updated 14/7/23)
What can I say, been waiting for this series to drop for quite sometime, for those that are Yang Yang fans like myself you will not be disappointed. Coming from watching 'You are my Glory' seeing Yang Yang in a modern romance drama, this one so far hasn't disappointed.Story: Well right from the get go the story begins in present day with both ML/FL introduce in their parts and then straight back and forth to their history of how they once knew each other and the story really kicks off. With side stories behind the scenes so far the Side story lines have not interrupted what has been occurring between both ML/FL roles. What makes this story intriguing and similar to the above statement of 'Romeo & Juliet' is that both families don't seem to approve of the relationship between ML/FL and the plot then thickens. (Hope that wasn't classified as a spoiler lol)
Updated 14/7/23 ) Half way through this series, OMG, started off very well indeed, lots of back and fourth of both ML/FL history and family, love the intro of the new supervisor into ML life at work, his a great edition to the story development. FL so called Mother, omg.......the look the demeanour and attitude..........just no words........
There is a degree of filler episodes now as it has reached this midway point, I hope it will get back more on track like it was on the original start of this show. Still very watchable, I am hoping this does not drag on for too much longer considering 20 more episodes to go.......Side characters should not get more development as well!
Acting: Yang Yang never disappoints me so I may be biased there, whereas the FL at times does seem to fall flat with her emotions and how she portrays this, maybe its to generate the audience to sympathise with her more, etc however to me most of the time her facial expressions are very repetitive. Having said this she is not doing this poorly. Side characters so far plays really well especially the FL's mother whom legit plays the villain persona so well I hate seeing her on screen but that is because she plays that role so well.
Music: Like every Rom/Com/Drama, music suits the scenes but I do not like the fact there is no opening theme song being sung.....maybe that's just me.
Rewatch Value: So far I have seen majority of the eps x 2 times except for Ep 10/11 which I have watched 4 times now........do not want to give too much away but worth the rewatch at present......after episode 15 things slow down a bit and now at the half way point, some episodes are def not worth to rewatch as some others........hope there is not a stall on the value of the episodes.
Overall: If you are a fan of Yang Yang then this is a must watch, overall performance so far is definitely a good series if you are into this kind of genre. I would highly recommend this series to watch where able. This may change as the episodes progress so, stay tuned for more updates!
Cheers all,
Shing ^_^

Good Rescues, the rest is overrated
LIKES:FX: wounds, burn scars, etc pretty well done.
CAST: Yang Yang’s acting ability has become slightly better; showing a good range of emotions for his character, even crying
Decent CGI
okay production
good cinematography
Decent wardrobe
Rescue parts were well done for action sequences.
Decent supporting actors/actresses
DISLIKES:
MUSIC: overly loud & sometimes a weird choice for certain scenes.
Pacing issues, making too many episodes and rushed ending
Colour pallet is boring, especially wardrobe when they’re not in their uniforms.
DIRECTING: Very bad; overly submissive FL when family concerned, to point of being cringy.
Yang Yang’s character too much frowning and “looking angry” but it doesn’t always suit the situation or have any impact.
Little chemistry between FL & ML.
For a medical based drama, there were technical parts for the characters’ jobs, that were so forgotten that realism went out the window, right with believability.
WRITING:
No character depth for ML & FL; just a doctor and a fireman, doesn’t explain their past issues or show growth. Lots of fire/rescue moments and surgical doctor stuff, but too much means the times it should give impact in the situation, leaves you just bored. I’m fast forwarding through parts and I’m only at Ep. 33
PLOT: typical cliche’s like overbearing/controlling parent as the evil person, intrusive & lying media, brave and golden fire fighters & military personnel (patriotism is strongly upheld), corporate greed, etc.
Too little of their high school life shown and remained as flash back memories; but we needed it to explain the character’s past and for development as they are adults now.
OVERALL:
Many boring parts and redundancy. The best parts were the Fire Department rescues and ER moments. Seems like the writer knew this, based on the last two episodes. Because of that it barely scapes by to a 4.5/10. If you like Yang Yang, Fire Department people and Doctors/Nurses, then I would recommend this drama for people just getting into it. Everyone else you might want to fast forward frequently. I won’t watch it again and I barely made it to the end.

A love that grows stronger the 2nd time around.
I don’t often watch a drama when it just started airing, because it’s a waiting game and I can only binge-watch a few episodes at a time, but “Fireworks of My Heart” is one of the exceptions. I saw some trailers and was immediately intrigued, so I watched it when the first 6 episodes dropped. From the very first episode, I was already drawn into the story. This drama is about a second chance romance that gradually builds up, such that I’m anticipating and excited for the character development and progress of the story. As I expected, there are some side stories related to Song Yan (ML) and Xu Qin’s (FL) professions, but the drama does not digress from the main story. Here are other thoughts that I have about the plot and story:
• Although this is slow burn, there are different turning points in the drama that tell us a new page in the story is about to be told and there will be progress in the character development and relationships (e.g., episodes 10, 16, 21, 24, etc.). When Song Yan and Xu Qin finally became a couple, things were not always smooth sailing for them, since both their professions were demanding to a certain degree, more so on Song Yan, since his job is high-risk. But the important thing is how they're facing these challenges together and became stronger as a result, both individually and as couple.
• I think it’s good that they showed the challenges, sacrifices, heartaches, victories and sense of fulfillment that the characters experienced as doctors and firefighters. Their rescue scenes were well planned and executed.
• There are many poignant, touching, heartwarming and swoon-worthy moments throughout the drama (I cried in some scenes). This is generally a serious drama, but they manage to inject humor in some scenes.
• I love the camaraderie, brotherhood, and banter among the firefighters. Even the developing friendships among the doctors and nurses are a joy to watch.
• The family dynamics: I like that they showed the contrast between Song Yan and Xu Qin’s family relationships – one is warm, relaxed and loving, while the other is colder, more reserved and tense.
• And of course, I love the chemistry, passion, and sweet/romantic moments between Song Yan and Xu Qin :)! Their scenes as a couple are so natural and believable.
• As shown in the BTS, there were some scenes from their high school days that did not make the final cut. Also, some scenes were deleted, and there is one kissing scene in particular that I was looking forward to because I’ve seen it in a trailer, but it was cut!
As for the cast of characters, I think the production team chose the right people to play the roles. My comments on some of them:
• Yang Yang as Song Yan – I think he fits the role of SY. Although their high school scenes are not many, I was able to see the carefree and mischievous side of SY in those scenes. Then after 10 years, I saw the more serious, somber and mature side of him. He was withholding many of his emotions, and Yang Yang showed it through his micro-expressions and subtle body movements. And in the more heart-breaking scenes, he was able to show his emotions. I think he gave a good performance.
• Wang Chu Ran as Xu Qin – Wang Chu Ran proves that she’s not just a pretty face. She was very good in the emotional scenes – she was able to convey the angst, frustrations, pain and even the joys of XQ. She was timid and fearful at first, but as her character grows, she eventually fought for her relationship and defied her parents (especially her controlling adoptive mother).
• On the OTP: Yang Yang and Wang Chu Ran make a great pair; their chemistry is amazing. Even small actions such as how they look at each other, their smile, an embrace, are enough for me to feel their chemistry.
• Yang Chao Yue as Zhai Miao – Love her character! She’s one of my favorites in this drama. I love how she’s loyal, brave, perceptive, and funny. And her brother-sister interactions with SY are so endearing and fun to watch.
• Vin Zhang as Suo Jun – I had just finished “Here We Meet Again” when I started watching FOMH, so when I saw him here, I can’t help but think of Xu Yan Shi (his character in HWMA) :D. Although he only had few scenes, Vin Zhang nailed his role as Suo Jun. His friendship with SY is one of the good things in this series.
• Wang Yan Ling as Jiang Yu – At first, I thought his character was on the gray side, but he turned out to be one of the best and most endearing characters in this drama. He became a real friend to both SY and XQ.
The other supporting actors also gave solid performances, which helped me to enjoy the drama more. So overall, I’m happy with the performance of the cast.
The OST is good! The songs fit the different moods of the drama. The opening theme is more upbeat, while the ending theme is more serious and a bit melancholy.
As a whole, I'm satisfied with how they concluded the drama. There are no loose ends; everything tied up nicely. I do have a wish or two, but it's Ok, they don't affect how much I liked and enjoyed this drama. So I highly recommend this!

Melo Romance/Action Drama that requires your patience
Having watched quite a few first responder dramas (You Are My Hero/A Date with the Future/Light Chaser Rescue), it’s difficult not to compare “Fireworks of My Heart” with them. For many elements, “Fireworks of My Heart” is very similar to these other dramas. What differs, is the romance story of the main leads. The romance between Song Yan (ML) and Xu Qin (F) is melodramatic. The romance in the other dramas are more fluffy and sweet and rom-com like. It has about 50% romance and 50 % cases/missions.Romance
Song Yan and Xu Qin were forced to be separated due to FL’s parents' strong disapproval. They are reunited after 10 years. The drama did not set a good foundation for viewers to understand their love for each other that could last more than 10 years. I am a big fan of second-chance romance, but I had a hard time rooting for this romance in the initial 10 episodes. I disliked Xu Qin and thought she was pathetic, selfish, cowardly and greedy. She was also very shameless in wanting to get back with Song Yan and became stalkerish and clingy. I had such a difficult time continuing. HOWEVER, I stuck with it and then realized why she acted that way (more about that later below). I was expecting the romance to be rom-com like, but then it dawned on me that this is a melo-romance. Once my mindset changed, I started to enjoy this romance a lot more. I understand why she acted that way and I slowly root for them to be together. When they finally get together, we have some scenes of sweetness and fluffiness, after all the angst we went through. A few decent kisses, a lot of hand-holding and hugging. I find the chemistry between the two leads OK but not great. I heard many of the kisses were censored out because they disappeared towards the last third of the show. This is probably due to the fact that this drama is broadcasted on national TV and the content is more controlled than web dramas.
Xu Qin (female lead)
As mentioned, I disliked Xu Qin so much in the first 10 episodes. But then I realized she has been emotionally abused and manipulated all her life by her mother. She was grateful for being adopted but she was having a hard time standing up for herself. I bet all viewers hate the mother and most are disgruntled about her ending. It was really sad to see how traumatic Xu Qin and her adopted brother are because of their parents. Xu Qin’s relationship with her mother seems like a domestic abuse situation. You want to leave, but you can’t. However, I am glad to see that she’s trying really hard… little by little, step by step. It was rewarding to finally see her stand up and leave her family for the man she loves.
Missions/Cases/Firefighting
If you have seen enough first responders drama, the cases in this drama will not surprise you. They are very similar to those I’ve seen in other dramas. I think “Fireworks of My Heart” actually does a better job in showing a variety of smaller, regular missions, e.g. catching a spider, helping an old lady, snapping a ring off a finger. Compared to what I’ve seen in other dramas, the bigger accidents, fires, and natural disasters are not as dramatic and the CGI not as good.
Firefighters and camaraderie
The boys together are always the most fun and most enjoyable parts in such dramas. You can expect funny banters between the guys, shirtless scenes here and there, training very hard and unfortunately, the loss of a life. I accidentally read a spoiler in the comment section and found out who died. Arggh… don’t be like me and please put a spoiler tag, people! We all look forward to the guest appearance of Vin Zhang, and like many, it was lovely to see his bromance with Yang Yang. I was expecting a certain exit for this character, but it was different than what I imagined (it was better). Now we just need another drama of Yang Yang and Vin Zhang as leads together!
Main Acting
I am a big fan of Yang Yang and think that his acting though might not be excellent, does not warrant all the criticisms. I think he did fine here, not as good as his performance in “Glory of Special Forces”. However, I don’t find him ‘posing’ instead of acting. And if so, it was the director’s fault. His acting of emotional scenes are more subtle since he is the captain and has to maintain a certain demeanor. On the other hand, Wang Chu Ran has a more difficult role to play. You can see the stark difference of her acting when she’s with her family, at work, and with ML. She is emotionless, soft-spoken and obedient when she’s speaking with her mother. She’s a cool, genius doctor who could be authoritative and business like at work. It’s when she’s with ML that her smiles, pouting, whining come out. I think Wang Chu Ran did an admirable job. For a drama playing against Yang Yang, I think she might have gotten my attention just a little more.
Supporting Cast
I do not get the ship between FL and her brother. There’s no way I will pick Meng Yan Chen over Song Yan! Everyone in the supporting cast did a pretty good job with no obvious subpar acting. I find Jiang Yu’s character quite adorable and he’s a good stand-in after Vin Zhang’s exit. I like the feisty little cousin, who stands up for Song Yan and says everything the ‘adults’ want to but are afraid to say. I love the sweet aunt and uncle who are there to support Song Yan. I dislike the subplot between Meng Yan Chen and Ye Zi. There’s something about Ye Zi that I don’t like from the first moment she’s introduced.
I worry many dropped this drama because they couldn’t get past the first 10 episodes, and were also expecting a rom-com instead of a melo. But if you like a more angsty, melodramatic romance in a drama like this, I would recommend this for you. This is not the best drama for its genre, but it has its own charms.
Other Random Observations:
1. Bad teenage wigs!
2. So many coincidences for the leads to meet in the first few episodes.
3. They really like to pour a whole bottle of iodine (?) on the wounds and cause pain.
4. Love the scene when families cook meals for the firefighters (but also quite unrealistic).
5. Like the healthy competition between the doctors. Not too many medical cases.
6. I quite like the songs in the OST. The lyrics are perfect for some scenes.
