We Are: Entwined Hearts & Uncharted Paths

The first episode set the stage well, catching our interest with how they introduced the four main pairs (the 8 mains). It's exciting to think about how their stories will mix and evolve. Having 16 episodes surprises me and makes me wonder if the show can keep things interesting the whole time without dragging on. My main worry is whether the story will start to feel too slow or stretched out.

But, putting that concern aside, I've genuinely enjoyed watching so far. The show has a strong start, and if it can keep up the pace without adding unnecessary stuff just to fill time, it could turn out to be a standout series. I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes from here, hoping it keeps up the good work and delivers on the promise of its first episodes.

Characters:
PhumPheem (PondPhuwin): They haven't surprised me yet, but I'm still a big fan. Their chemistry is great, but I want to see more to distinguish them from their previous roles in "Fish Upon the Sky."
QToey (WinnySatang): It feels like it's been a while since we've seen them, but they're back, and I'm curious to see how they'll build on their chemistry from "My School President."
TanFang (AouBoom): Aou has captured my heart once again. I've already enthused about AouBoom from "Hidden Agenda," so I won't repeat myself here! I'm excited to see where their journey takes them, rooting for them wholeheartedly and hoping for their success.
ChainPun (MarcPoon): I didn't have high expectations due to the "circumstances," but Poon surprised me. There's a positive energy between them that I'm excited to see more of. Looking forward to seeing how their dynamic develops.

"In this group of friends, even though university life is tough, life's ups and downs, plus love's twists, keep things always stirring.
We are... friends who argue but care so much about each other that sometimes, we end up flirting."

Let's dive into the next three months and enjoy everything about "We Are." It's a great chance to come together, have a good time, and support a show we love. We're hoping that "We Are" does more than just entertain us; we want it to positively impact the BL community, bringing us all a little closer. Here's to a journey we'll take together, making the most of every moment with "We Are" and celebrating the love and friendship it brings into our lives. See you all at EP 6 so that I can further establish my thoughts on the series.

Great show with a great cast

I went into this show with high hopes and I was not disappointed this show has everything a Romcom should have. It has great cast, amazing characters, wonderful storyline, great family/friendship dynamic, beautiful Ost. Plus it has funny characters so far my favorite character thus far is Tan.

He is sooo hilarious the minute he spoke and the way he delivers his lines to the rest of the characters was just absolutely hilarious. He was so funny and even though there is only one episode out as if right now this show is wonderful. I have very very very high hopes for this show once it continues on being uploaded.

hope it goes well tbh

I'll be writing a review for each episode here. Then I'll rewrite and conclude everything when it's done.

EP 1 - The plotline doesn't particularly stand out. After this episode, I anticipate that it's going to be a mix of chaotic, funny, and heartwarming scenes. The comedic elements are hit or miss for me. To be honest, I initially started watching for PondPhuwin. However, I unexpectedly find myself adoring WinnySatang, and this goes for the other couples, too. I hope that they balance the screen time for each pairing. And may I just say—Pond looks especially handsome with this hairstyle!

EP 2 - The whole "master and slave" theme is starting off strong. The way Phum looks at Peem, it's clear he's enjoying himself. I liked the scene where Peem asked his Professor for advice on his artwork because he's anxious about its message. He wants to shift from his simple style to a more complex one, similar to Q's. Interestingly, Q also expresses concerns about the complexity in his own art and desires to convey simplicity, like Peem's artwork. I appreciated the professor's comment about students comparing their works, and his response to Peem, "what's not good about simplicity?" genuinely comforted me. It's also nice to see Peem's character depth as he occasionally lacks confidence in his work. Anyway, the chemistry between each couple is on fire in this episode. Peem drunkenly complementing Phum's looks while unknowingly holding onto the roses Phum bought for him. Q's gentleness in shooing away bugs so Toey can sleep peacefully on his lap. Tan confidently initiates and flirts, while Khaofang secretly enjoys it. The sweet scenes from each couple are giving me heart attack! The chemistry is already established, and it's only Episode 2. You know what that means? It leaves room for some classic misunderstanding tropes.

An Entertaining Watch Indeed

At first glance, “We Are” seems like a cliché bubblegum show without much substance, however, as you delve deeper into the show, without any cynicism it is pure swoon worthy romance and presents a genre I quite like which is equivalent to the early 2000s chick flicks. Although it doesn’t have much to say or has no edge, it gives us heartwarming love stories, actual courtship and although there are elements of slow burn romance in some of the couples, the show balances it out by giving us different solid story lines to follow that are all wholesome and you can’t help but root for each single couple. Comfort shows with low stakes, that are written to make the audience feel good are severely underrated and its easy to write them off as bubblegum shows that lose flavor quickly, however, you cannot deny that when they are sweet, they are indeed sweet.

Looks like American sitcoms

So far I liked this show, it reminds me those American sitcoms with many characters and comedy. I like the idea of long BL series as far as they interesting and entertaining. Looking forward for more episodes, hope they’ll keep the mark high.
1. Love my PondPhuwin, their chemistry is on high level as always.
2. WinnySatang were fire couple in MSP, they have potential to become bigger, hope this show make them more popular.
3. AouBoom: I saw these guys in Vice Versa and Hideen Agenda and they were cute, so i wish them more fame and higher popularity.
4. MarcPoon: I liked Marc in Dangerous Romance and it’s sucks that he had to change partner so suddenly, but I hope that he’ll have a good chemistry with Poon. Wish them luck!

Looking forward for new episodes!

First Impression: We Are

Overall: looks to be a standard Thai romcom. 16 episodes about 45 minutes each. Airing on iQIYI exclusively for U.S., Canada and Thailand; on GMMTVs YouTube channel for everywhere else. The director's more recent BL works include: Absolute Zero, A Boss & a Babe, Between Us and My Only 12%.

Content Warnings: hit, vomiting, manhandling, manipulation

What I Liked
- seeing many GMMTV actors again
- whale spout hairstyle
- took a taxi when drinking
- the friend groups
- (neutral) this has a lot of comedy sound effects

Room For Improvement
- voice over exposition dump/main character intro
- episode 1 was all set up and there was some slow pacing, nervous about this having 16 episodes
- a bunch of characters were introduced at once, not clear on all of the pairings yet

Got me laughing out loud

I definitely came for PondPhuwin but I’m staying for MarcPoon. I do also enjoy AouBoom! To be honest I wasn’t a big fan on Winny at first. In the beginning his character felt lacking. He always seems to have this look on his face like he’s got no thoughts going on back there lol. Satang is one of my favorites so they cancel each other out I guess hahaha.
Honestly when the directors have Phuwin act “mad” it’s a bit awkward to watch because he over does it (don’t hate me, I love him) but when his character Pheem is just talking to Phum, he really shines. Honestly Phuwins and Ponds chemistry is just off the charts.
I really like Marc and Poon together. I really didn’t like how Goofy they had Poon’s character at first but when his character is not acting completely helpless and baby-fied, him and Marc are *chefs kiss*.
The group as a whole have such warm vibes and natural chemistry and it’s expected when a group of friends enjoy their job and each other!

Disappointin

Since the announcement of this series, I knew I was up for disappointment. In this regard We Are did not disappoint me. As a former PondPhuwin fan after watching Never Let Me Go and then Fish Upon the Sky, this series was a huge step back from where I expected this ship to go. I really thought Ponf and Phuwin’s partnership would graduate to something of more substance. But leave it to GMMTV to come out and say they serve a Gen Z audience of schoolgirls in their 2024 lineup announcements.

It’s been my stance that I know Phuwin cannot act and he relies on acting tricks they teach in remedial acting classes. As someone who has taking acting classes I can see all the tricks he uses which a lot of people can spot as poor acting as it has an unnatural cadence about it. I also know Pond isn’t a good actor because he’s inexperienced but he shows promise of being better with more challenging roles. So to be part of this series was a huge let down for not only me but many others who like the PondPhuwin pairing.

First off this was four separate novels combined into one series. This is already a bad formula if Between Us with four couples have shown us. Even with two coupe like Love In The Air, people were already made when two stories were made into one series. This four couple premise is already off to a bad start.

Second, after Never Me Go, this seems like a punishment to regress PondPhuwin back into another school BL when they have graduated from Fish Upon The Sky and went onto Never Let Me Go. Which is about school kids but in an adult setting away from school. Now to send them back to school seems like GMMTV is telling us Pond and Phuwin do not deserve to become adults they are kids so let’s treat the, as such.

Third, how can you put four couple and make this PondPhuwin series seem like a vehicle to promote WinnySatang into lead roles since their success with My School President. It’s giving me nothing but let’s put a secondary side couple in another star couple vehicle and let them build more of a following. You know much like how fans have been asking secondary couple to prove their acting chops off the backs of a more established couple to prove they have star power to be an official couple in a series. WinnySatang is this couple. They are going to make this series their launch pad to spring into a star making vehicle for themselves. If you factor in AuBoom into the equation, you can see this series was a bad move for PondPhuwin to be in. They are definitely going to be overshadowed with equally talented or better actors. The only ones who won’t eclipse PondPhuwin are MarcPoon since they are a new ship dies to the Pawin scandal. But this is the only thing that isn’t going yo steal their thunder.

I know going into this series Phuwin was going to annoy me with his acting. Sure enough it did. He is the epitome of a himbo actor. He is solely relying on his looks to save him on his cringey AF acting. If I have to see him be a total bitch in another role to Pond’s character I’m going to want to punch his RBF. Like how can someone who like like such a bitch all the time with that smirk and side eyes have any friends. Everyone of his characters seems to have a chip on his shoulder while thinking he’s a nice guy deserving the world. This includes his characters in straight series like Wednesday’s Club.

I hate to say it but if Pond needs to play another besotted character who falls for Phuwin’s character I’m going to gag. Must all of his characters be whipped for Phuwin’s characters within 2 episodes. Can we have a Phuwin character really be an errand boy for Pond’s for once and try to get Pond’s character to fall for him or is that not within Phuwin’s acting abilities since he seems like a high maintenance piece of work.

I honestly don’t care for the WinnySatung characters because it’s just another reiteration of PondPhuwins characters. Now we get to AuBoom. I adore Au since Be My Favorite so I know he can act the pants off me. And Boom casted as Pond’s brother. This is too much visual eye candy for me. I like Boom with Au. They are stealing this series for me and I don’t mind.

I’ve always dislike Marc because he s a bad actor. I don’t know Poon but I hated Pawin for some reason. He always gives me creepy vibes and it can because of his character from Never Let Me Go.

Two episode and I have to pause on this because so far it is disappointing me in exactly the way expected. As much as I want to support Pond and AuBoom. I cannot take the week by week torture of watching Phuwin making my skin crawl with his cringey acting.

I will wait until this series ends to read the reviews to see if it is worth my time to come back and support Pond and AuBoom.

If your like fluffy shit with rainbows and unicorns then this school series is right up yor alley. Enjoy.

Pheem, the Penelope of Thai BL?

Although the series begins on a somewhat dramatic note, with two university students involved in a fight that leads to the inevitable hospital medical attention of one of them after receiving a blow, the story, in a fast, colorful and fun way, shows us, in tone of a youthful romantic comedy, one of the love plots between boys, set in a university, like the ones we are used to in BL series.
After the painting that is ready to be sent to an exhibition after sleepless nights becomes useless when it is hit by a soccer ball, Pheem will confront Phum, the extroverted and popular, but arrogant university soccer player, guilty of the mess, and in a burst of anger hits him.
Phum then demands compensation from him. But since the mischievous and playful second-year Fine Arts student, who dreams of one day having an art gallery in which to exhibit his own works, cannot pay the medical bills, they will ask him to be at their service and attend to all their needs. whims. Or will it be an excuse to get closer to Pheem?
But there will be a "gentleman's" style agreement: "No one will ever know that one is a slave and the other is a master."
Do you remember the first time you fell in love? Was it not a crush, nor a crush, but a love with capital letters, pulsating, with all the nerves in the body tingling? Whether you've forgotten that feeling, are feeling it now, or even if you've never felt it before, you'll feel that raw emotion in almost every frame of 'We Are' (คือ เรารักกัน'), an adaptation of Parawi's novel of the same name (ภารวี).
When the future civil engineer, embarrassed by having been beaten in front of others, begins a plan of revenge against Pheem, at the same time as his demands as a master increase, his feelings begin to slowly grow.
But Pheem will also demand that the "punishment" not last two months, but until he finishes repainting the damaged painting.
For some strange reason, while I was surprised by Phum accepting the proposal, I remembered Penelope, the Homeric character from "The Odyssey", but with some variations: she is not a woman, but a boy; It was not to avoid her suitors after the absence of her husband that she devised the plan of weaving a tapestry by day to undo it at night, confident that Ulysses was alive and would soon return, and thus prolong having to accept a new spouse. , otherwise he would delay finishing redoing the painting to continue close to Phum. Nor would it be four years until the return of the absent person to complete the two decades, but perhaps the same number of weeks until hearing the confession of love from the young man with whom he has fallen in love at that time.
The world is small and a university is even smaller. Being students at the same university, faced every day in their status as master-slave, leads the two young people to clash with each other again and again until Phum declares his love for Pheem and begins to court him. Or maybe Pheem has a confession to make too?
Phum's affectionate and tender behavior, the constant emission of "doubtful" vibrations, the sexual tensions created around the two, have not gone unnoticed by Pheem, who feels attracted to his "master" from the moment he meets him. known.
In that daily struggle of who dominates who, underneath it all, the two have begun, perhaps without realizing it, as an involuntary act, to take care of each other.
Through the eyes of Pheem, the main narrator, the viewer will be able to enjoy the birth and evolution of the romance between two a priori incompatible people who, however, enter into a love relationship that, like all relationships, has a lot of imperfections, but this It will not discourage them in their efforts to find happiness side by side.
The main arc of the series begins in the usual youth romantic comedy style, with the boys' characteristic pranks; studies, which we are sometimes terrible at; falling in love, which in many cases is the first in life; coming of age, the transition from adolescence to early youth, the joys and difficulties that young people had to face, friends who ignore us or, on the contrary, annoy us to no end, but are always present with his wise advice; the song that seems to save us time and time again from "sinking", the parents who do not understand us, the work that will come (or not) in the future, the differences in social classes... all these themes used mainly in function to provoke laughter, but also to make you reflect.
With a very basic and unoriginal plot having been seen many times, predictable twists, uninspiring characters and trite situations, among other characteristics, the series works for the viewer, if they are one of those looking for an easy romantic comedy.
Starring PondPhuwin, a ship formed by actors Naravit Lertratkosum, who plays Phum, and Phuwin Tangsakyuen, in the role of Pheem, whom we have already seen together in 'Fish Upon The Sky', 'Never Let Me Go' and more recently In 'Our Skyy 2', the drama brings us characters with the classic cliché of "strangers to friends and friends to lovers." Phum and Pheem are two beings who are finding themselves and discovering their most intimate desires.
But theirs will not be the only romance. In addition to Phum and Pheem, as a bonus, we have the expected secondary romance between SatangWimmy, a couple made up of Kittipop Sereevichayasawat (Satang), as Toey, the apprentice, and Thanawin Pholcharoenrat (Winny), as Q, the mentor, who in 'My School President' left us wanting more.
Q, Pheem's best friend and who likes to sing in a night bar, has been Toey's inspiration to decide to study Fine Arts. Secretly, he has been in love with the final year student of that major for some time. Admiring his talent and personality has led him to love him, but Q is unable to see the signs that are constantly coming to him. Will Toey have the chance to confess his love? Has Q really been so blind? These two will also have an agreement: Q will demand from Toey: "Don't tell anyone that you are my apprentice."
And also a third BL romance, that of AouBoom, a duo made up of Thanaboon Kiatniran (Aou), as Tan, the cheerful Engineering student, and Tharatorn Jantharaworakarn (Boom), as Khaofang, a sensitive and shy young man from the Faculty of architecture. In this relationship, Tan will ask Phum to help him flirt with his brother in exchange for the location where he can find Pheem. And Phum, despite initially telling him that he is not the ideal boyfriend for his brother, will give in to his friend's proposal in order to take revenge for the humiliation received.
And…did someone say a fourth romance? Someone…? Yes, a fourth too: that of MarcPoon, the duo made up of Natarit Worakornlertsith (Marc), as Shane, and Poon Mitpakdee, as Pun. This relationship begins when the two friends get closer and get to know each other even more while trying to find another person to flirt with Toey and thus get him to forget Q. Although these three couples are secondary, they manage to win the hearts of the viewers.
In a tone of light-hearted, biting and agile comedy, the series tells the adventures of this group of university friends who, as the official synopsis highlights, "navigate through the complexities of life, love and personal relationships, while balancing their academic responsibilities. , giving rise to chaotic and unpredictable situations.
The series highlights the different side of each of the four couples, their journey of discovery and acceptance. The eight young people will not fail to make you fall in love. As you get to know the four couples and see how the relationship between them evolves, you will be able to decide which one has stolen your heart the most and why.
With a vast body of work within the genre, with titles such as 'Absolute Zero', 'Love by Chance', 'Love by Chance 2', 'Until We Meet Again The Series', 'Make It Right: The Series 2 and 'Make It Right: The Series', among many others, the director, screenwriter and actor Siwaj Sawatmaneekul (New), gives us one of those romantic series that have the stigma that, despite their multiple flaws, they are products that are devoured easily and that seduce all audiences, due to their light, insubstantial and addictive packaging.
Modern, real, entertaining and, above all, addictive, this series joins others with themes of first youth and first love, with the university as its setting, which has always had a negative connotation, since many ( (not to say all of us) it is difficult for us to admit that we have become hooked on some of these dramas, due to their ability to entertain the viewer from beginning to end.
And it turns out that it couldn't be any other way. All human beings have lived, are living or will soon live that stage of our lives that is youth. And to this is added the university experience that not only refers to the academic part, but also a large percentage of it includes personal search, character development, discovering what you are suited for professionally and the diversification of social circles.
It is at university age, whether or not you enter the classrooms of one of these houses of higher education, that a person defines his character more accurately and, in the process, that is where relationships are created that last longer into the future - it is said that the friendships that are forged in college are those that last a lifetime. And love does not escape this axiom.
The series also manages to deny the rumor that 'Never Let Me Go' had been a failure and that GMMTV intended to undo this ship. Although it is very likely that this will be the last series that both film together as the main couple, since in 'Summer Night', to be released sometime in 2024, Phuwin will move away from his usual characters, while Pond does not have any performance planned in the immediate horizon.

Too painful to watch

I’m usually hesitant to watch Thai bl, the acting, the plot doesn’t do it for me. However I’ve watched some that are actually good, could even rewatch them.

This series is just too painful to watch. Everyone’s acting is cringe asf and all over the place. I get it’s fiction but they try to act a bit like normal people. I know somethings are meant as comic relief but no, it’s a no for me.

Come sottolineo sempre, i gusti son gusti. C’è a chi può piacere e a chi no. Personalmente, fino ad ora mi sta piacendo molto e se volete sorridere, alleggerirvi o distrarvi dopo una giornata stancante, ve la consiglio caldamente.
