We Are: Entwined Hearts & Uncharted Paths

The first episode set the stage well, catching our interest with how they introduced the four main pairs (the 8 mains). It's exciting to think about how their stories will mix and evolve. Having 16 episodes surprises me and makes me wonder if the show can keep things interesting the whole time without dragging on. My main worry is whether the story will start to feel too slow or stretched out.

But, putting that concern aside, I've genuinely enjoyed watching so far. The show has a strong start, and if it can keep up the pace without adding unnecessary stuff just to fill time, it could turn out to be a standout series. I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes from here, hoping it keeps up the good work and delivers on the promise of its first episodes.

Characters:
PhumPheem (PondPhuwin): They haven't surprised me yet, but I'm still a big fan. Their chemistry is great, but I want to see more to distinguish them from their previous roles in "Fish Upon the Sky."
QToey (WinnySatang): It feels like it's been a while since we've seen them, but they're back, and I'm curious to see how they'll build on their chemistry from "My School President."
TanFang (AouBoom): Aou has captured my heart once again. I've already enthused about AouBoom from "Hidden Agenda," so I won't repeat myself here! I'm excited to see where their journey takes them, rooting for them wholeheartedly and hoping for their success.
ChainPun (MarcPoon): I didn't have high expectations due to the "circumstances," but Poon surprised me. There's a positive energy between them that I'm excited to see more of. Looking forward to seeing how their dynamic develops.

"In this group of friends, even though university life is tough, life's ups and downs, plus love's twists, keep things always stirring.
We are... friends who argue but care so much about each other that sometimes, we end up flirting."

Let's dive into the next three months and enjoy everything about "We Are." It's a great chance to come together, have a good time, and support a show we love. We're hoping that "We Are" does more than just entertain us; we want it to positively impact the BL community, bringing us all a little closer. Here's to a journey we'll take together, making the most of every moment with "We Are" and celebrating the love and friendship it brings into our lives. See you all at EP 6 so that I can further establish my thoughts on the series.

[omg, it’s ep8 and i still haven’t write my mid series review. so hang on while i write it]

Great show with a great cast

I went into this show with high hopes and I was not disappointed this show has everything a Romcom should have. It has great cast, amazing characters, wonderful storyline, great family/friendship dynamic, beautiful Ost. Plus it has funny characters so far my favorite character thus far is Tan.

He is sooo hilarious the minute he spoke and the way he delivers his lines to the rest of the characters was just absolutely hilarious. He was so funny and even though there is only one episode out as if right now this show is wonderful. I have very very very high hopes for this show once it continues on being uploaded.

hope it goes well tbh

I'll be writing a review for each episode here. Then I'll rewrite and conclude everything when it's done.

EP 1 - The plotline doesn't particularly stand out. After this episode, I anticipate that it's going to be a mix of chaotic, funny, and heartwarming scenes. The comedic elements are hit or miss for me. To be honest, I initially started watching for PondPhuwin. However, I unexpectedly find myself adoring WinnySatang, and this goes for the other couples, too. I hope that they balance the screen time for each pairing. And may I just say—Pond looks especially handsome with this hairstyle!

EP 2 - The whole "master and slave" theme is starting off strong. The way Phum looks at Peem, it's clear he's enjoying himself. I liked the scene where Peem asked his Professor for advice on his artwork because he's anxious about its message. He wants to shift from his simple style to a more complex one, similar to Q's. Interestingly, Q also expresses concerns about the complexity in his own art and desires to convey simplicity, like Peem's artwork. I appreciated the professor's comment about students comparing their works, and his response to Peem, "what's not good about simplicity?" genuinely comforted me. It's also nice to see Peem's character depth as he occasionally lacks confidence in his work. Anyway, the chemistry between each couple is on fire in this episode. Peem drunkenly complementing Phum's looks while unknowingly holding onto the roses Phum bought for him. Q's gentleness in shooing away bugs so Toey can sleep peacefully on his lap. Tan confidently initiates and flirts, while Khaofang secretly enjoys it. The sweet scenes from each couple are giving me heart attack! The chemistry is already established, and it's only Episode 2. You know what that means? It leaves room for some classic misunderstanding tropes.

GMMTV ensemble romcom

Overall: this is a very standard Thai romcom which is good or bad depending on your taste. 16 episodes about 45 minutes each. Airing on iQIYI exclusively for U.S., Canada and Thailand; on GMMTVs YouTube channel for everywhere else. The director's more recent BL works include: Absolute Zero, A Boss & a Babe, Between Us and My Only 12%.

Content Warnings: hit, vomiting, manhandling, manipulation

What I Liked
- seeing many GMMTV actors again
- whale spout hairstyle
- took a taxi when drinking
- the friend groups
- sweet moments
- (neutral) this has a lot of comedy sound effects

Room For Improvement
- voice over exposition dump/main character intro
- episode 1 was all set up and there was some slow pacing, slow pacing continued
- a bunch of characters were introduced at once
- nonsense "plans"
- art students transporting important paintings without any carrying cases

Still waiting to see how this ends

This show had so much potential and it still does maybe but... this show has too many leads, I high key wish it wasn't so focused on everyone. Idk why I didn't expect it to be this way when the description legit states a group of friends. They need to add the tags for multiple leads & multiple couples, I wish Pond and Phuwin had their own show, I found myself skipping most of the other couples/other leads most of the time. I really want to see Phum and Peem's characters romance develop more but they haven't had the chance to due to the group aspect of the story this show was written in. I hope in the future Pond and Phuwin get their own show without focusing on to many leads taking away from the story in my opinion. I will keep watching until the series ends and I will update this. As for right now, the show is dragging along with character/relationship development.

Sweet Simple BL Series

I am loving this series so far! It's very simple (not much in the story line department) but gives me nostalgic vibes (think Lovesick and Make It Right). It's nice to have a reset break from the heavy storylines and mature shows every now and then.

All of the characters are cute and loveable which leaves you with warm fuzzies from watching this show. If you're in need of a pick-me-up I definitely recommend giving this series a shot. I love settling in at the end of my day to watch this show and get a hefty dose of dopamine.

family can’t always be your safe space

I’ll admit I came here for Pond Phuwin but stayed for AouBoom.

there is something so wonderful about a group of friends that love and support each other as much as the gang of We Are. I WISH I had a friendship group like this.

honestly this series is unserious a little unhinged and full to the brim with love and the world just needs this at times.

I was also very happy with the pretty much even screen time for most of the cast. when there is this many characters things tend tog tt messy and overlooked but that really didn’t happen here. I would hav loved to seen more marc poon, that would be my only complaint in the screen time category.

if you’re looking for a unserious, fun, full of love good time series I highly recommend it.

now how do we go about getting Aou and Boom their own series?

Modern, real, entertaining and, above all, addictive

Although the series begins on a somewhat dramatic note, with two university students involved in a fight that leads to the inevitable hospital medical attention of one of them after receiving a blow, the story, in a fast, colorful and fun way, shows us, in tone of a youthful romantic comedy, one of the love plots between boys, set in a university, like the ones we are used to in BL series.
After the painting that is ready to be sent to an exhibition after sleepless nights becomes useless when it is hit by a soccer ball, Pheem will confront Phum, the extroverted, brilliant, stubborn and popular, but arrogant college soccer player, guilty of the in a bad way, and in a fit of anger he hits him.
Phum then demands compensation from him. But since the mischievous and playful second-year Fine Arts student, who dreams of one day having an art gallery in which to exhibit his own works, cannot pay the medical bills, they will ask him to be at their service and attend to all their needs. whims. But there will be a pact between the two: "No one will ever be able to know that one is a slave and the other is a master."
But Pheem will also demand that the "punishment" not last two months, but until he finishes redoing the damaged painting.
Thus begins the story of Pheem and Phum, the protagonists of the Thai series 'We Are', an adaptation of Parawi's novel of the same name.
When the future civil engineer, embarrassed by having been beaten in front of others, begins a plan of revenge against Pheem, at the same time as his demands as a master increase, his feelings begin to slowly grow.
The world is small and a university is even smaller. Being students at the same university, faced every day in their status as master-slave, leads the two young people to collide with each other again and again until both boys fall in love.
Phum's affectionate and tender behavior, the constant emission of "doubtful" vibrations, the sexual tensions created around the two, have not gone unnoticed by Pheem, who feels attracted to his "master" from the moment he meets him known.
In that daily struggle of who dominates who, underneath everything, the two have begun, perhaps without realizing it, as an involuntary act, to take care of each other.
Through the eyes of Pheem, the main narrator, the viewer will be able to enjoy the birth and evolution of the romance between two a priori incompatible people who, however, enter into a love relationship that, like all relationships, has a lot of imperfections, but this It will not discourage them in their efforts to find happiness side by side.
The main plot follows this young man in his university years, in which, surrounded by his friends, who are other young people his age, he discovers love for the first time and also himself.
Likewise, we see that a new character is introduced, Kluem, who will show to be interested in Peem. His appearance will provoke jealousy in Phum, but it will help him recognize in himself the feelings that he slowly develops every day for the arts student.
The main arc of the series begins in the usual youth romantic comedy style, with the boys' characteristic pranks; studies, which sometimes we are terrible at; falling in love, which in many cases is the first in life; coming of age, the transition from adolescence to early youth, the joys and difficulties that young people must face, friends who ignore us or, on the contrary, annoy us to no end, but are always present with his wise advice; the song that seems to save us time and time again from "sinking", the parents who do not understand us, the work that will come (or not) in the future, the differences in social classes... all these themes used mainly in function to provoke laughter, but also to make you reflect.
Starring PondPhuwin, a ship formed by actors Naravit Lertratkosum, who plays Phum, and Phuwin Tangsakyuen, in the role of Pheem, whom we have already seen together in 'Fish Upon The Sky', 'Never Let Me Go' and more recently In 'Our Skyy 2', the drama brings us characters with the classic cliché of "strangers to friends and friends to lovers." Phum and Pheem are two beings who are finding themselves and discovering their most intimate desires.
But theirs will not be the only romance. In addition to Phum and Pheem, as a plus, we have the expected secondary romance between WimmySatang, a couple made up of Thanawin Pholcharoenrat (Winny), as Q, the mentor, and Kittipop Sereevichayasawat (Satang), as Toey, the apprentice, who in 'My School President' left us wanting more.
Q, Pheem's best friend and who likes to sing in a night bar, has been Toey's inspiration to decide to study Fine Arts. Secretly, he has been in love with the final year student of that major for some time. Admiring his talent and personality has led him to love him, but Q is unable to see the signs that are constantly coming to him. Will Toey have the chance to confess his love? Has Q really been so blind? These two will also have an agreement: Q will demand from Toey: "Don't tell anyone that you are my apprentice."
And also a third BL romance, that of AouBoom, a duo made up of Thanaboon Kiatniran (Aou), as Tan, the cheerful Engineering student, and Tharatorn Jantharaworakarn (Boom), as Khaofang, a sensitive and shy young man from the Faculty of architecture. In this relationship, Tan will ask Phum to help him flirt with his brother in exchange for the location where he can find Pheem. And Phum, despite initially telling him that he is not the ideal boyfriend for his brother, will agree to help his friend in order to take revenge for the humiliation received.
There will also be a fourth romance: that of MarcPoon, the duo made up of Natarit Worakornlertsith (Marc), as Shane, and Poon Mitpakdee, as Pun. This relationship deepens as the two friends grow closer and get to know each other even more as they try to trick Q into believing that Shane is in love with Toey, in order to get him to declare his love. Although these three couples are secondary, they manage to win the hearts of the viewers.
The series highlights the different side of each of the four couples, their journey of discovery and acceptance. The eight young people will not fail to make you fall in love. As you get to know the four couples and see how the relationship between them evolves, you will be able to decide which one has stolen your heart the most and why.
These friends are what any human being would need to accompany them on a journey to discover falling in love and sex.
Although in principle it reminds us of other productions of this type, Thai fiction forges its own path of authenticity. In addition, it stands out for the construction of the characters that enchant from the first moment and the way the story is portrayed.
Although 'We Are' plays with the most modern ideas to portray teenagers in fiction, each of them enjoys a unique authenticity and demonstrates the sensitivity of Siwaj Sawatmaneekul (New), director, screenwriter and actor, to write their journeys of self-discovery. There are no "token" characters here, used in many television shows to call themselves diverse. We see young people exploring love and sexuality outside of heteronormativity.
We are faced with one of those series capable of attracting passionate followers around the world for its frank and sensitive representation of what today's teenagers face: first love, life at university, sex, self-discovery, most of all of age, youth traumas, inclusion, sexuality, neurodiversity and the best friends who help them get ahead.
With a vast body of work within the genre, with titles such as 'Love by Chance', 'Until We Meet Again' and 'Make It Right', among many others, New Siwaj Sawatmaneekul gives us one of those romantic and fun series with very good characters outlines that hook the public immediately.
Modern, real, entertaining and, above all, addictive, this series joins others with themes of first youth and first love, with the university as its setting, which has always had a negative connotation, since many ( (not to say all of us) it is difficult for us to admit that we have become hooked on some of these dramas, due to their ability to entertain the viewer from beginning to end.

An Entertaining Watch Indeed

At first glance, “We Are” seems like a cliché bubblegum show without much substance, however, as you delve deeper into the show, without any cynicism it is pure swoon worthy romance and presents a genre I quite like which is equivalent to the early 2000s chick flicks. Although it doesn’t have much to say or has no edge, it gives us heartwarming love stories, actual courtship and although there are elements of slow burn romance in some of the couples, the show balances it out by giving us different solid story lines to follow that are all wholesome and you can’t help but root for each single couple. Comfort shows with low stakes, that are written to make the audience feel good are severely underrated and its easy to write them off as bubblegum shows that lose flavor quickly, however, you cannot deny that when they are sweet, they are indeed sweet.

Best couples
