tries to be everything and fails at being itself ; cliche edition!

This is gonna be a short review - (is what I am hoping) before starting to sing about my disappointment !

NO DIRECT SPOILERS

The start was fun and that's about it - it wasn't good or perfect but just was my taste - i loved the petty bickering and I still care for you but imma make a fool of you and then i don't remember when they move to the lovey dovey stuff but I am sure that's where everything went WRONG ...! It is a perfect example of a drama that I knew would never get better, yet I still stuck with it till the very end for the love of humanity ig (clown face emoji)

first of all them assuming that the translation industry is so significant - I am sorry but it's too asumptious to be real !
then the ML being able to do all the things like magic ... he's good at AI okay, he's good with medicine ? he creates scents ? wtf ??? - like he's the company all by himself ...?? no specializations no departments ...he's touring the translators themselves ...don't they have work ? Also don't they have hot secretaries ?

Also the only problem ML's company faces in this 36 hour boredom is media articles and public opinion....like tf....no effort what so ever was put in even thinking about anything else.

the only practical bg is given to wei tian - someone who works hard is striving to be in the industry and someone who will never make it to upper management, a true friend , also the casting is top notch there ! - he's literally the guy they want him to be !

the side characters are too cliche, stereotypical and forgettable to even just be bare min likable and their plot line is like all over the place - be it the cousin or the sml which I believe moved on in the blink of an eye ! - oh what pretty love is ! - and when does the cousin have a change of heart and nature ! everyone here seems to be having a switch - press it and they become someone else !

I think the director is wasting too much time on everything except the things that actually matter - the ml and fl share a lot of screen time with side characters that seem to have a very stupid story line themselves and no time is given for the misunderstandings that drives people apart for 30 fucking years ! Then there are random twists in the story that should have made the characters seem more complex, but it just made the story more of a hot mess.

The last 4 eps did try to be more engaging than the whole second half but tbh I do not like the ending the ML is not even interested in how the FL is feeling and he's just so full of himself to think that the solution he is trying to use to help FL is the only thing that should or can be done. Like dude talk to her that's also a great option you didn't give a fuck about. And the end - I am not even disappointed bec what did I even expect. I could maybe increase a 0.5 rating but I don't want to bother doing so!
---

Overall, I feel pretty comfortable telling people to skip this one because they have no idea themselves about what they wanted to create !
PS. There was a lot that was pretty unlikable but I did not hate the show ! - i do not care about the ending bec ik it's gonna be what everyone knows it's gonna be.

- only likable part was machine v/s human translation ! - which was lost as soon as the romance kicked in !
Watch for the leads or as a side show ! - nothing much to miss out on !

The drama is just like every other cliche romance between exes dramas

The show doesn't bring something entirely new or out of the box story but the same romance brewing between exes. The chemistry between the leads is somewhat good and the only thing that keeps you going otherwise the story ain't that interesting.

You may find FL not likeable till half of the show as she is cold and full of pride while ML starts as a hardened dude who still hates FL for dumping him years back but 5-6 eps later is doing everything to get her back. No matter how much she pushes him away or is cold to him, dude without any self respect just keeps trying to stick to her and finally wins her over.

During their entire relationship arc it always looked like ML was always the one putting more effort than FL. Both of them did have a strong bond full of trust, respect and love. Misunderstandings were cleared soon and not many useless arguments take place.

All of the cast did well with the characters they played, be it the leads or side characters.

Story dragged on a bit..

I started to watch Our Interpreter due to Chen Xing Xu. As the ML- the acting matched the character. HoweverVictoria Song as the FL seems to be the same characters compared to all of her recent dramas. There is no difference from hair style to makeup to emotions. Her acting all seems to be the same- kinda cold. I did not feel real chemistry between the ML and FL.

There was an interest of conflict as ML and FL represented as opponents to business opportunities. If it was in real life- one of them should be bowed out of the competition.

I enjoyed the fluffy part of the drama- as always there is some kind of misunderstanding that could have been resolved if someone just said something. But of course then they could not dragged out the stories to 36 episodes.

I have seen many bad reviews about this drama well, i will keep it short so i liked this drama because of its storyline at first i thought their breakup reason was ridiculous but after thinking about it i wasn't actually that ridiculous back then the male lead was quite immature so he might have really dropped the Idea of going abroad if wouldn't have broken up with the female lead, and he wouldn't have been successful without her so i would like to say while watching this drama you will feel angry and you will think this reason is so ridiculous there are many other option but as you will watch the drama further you will know ahhh so there was a reason behind all these , and after watching this drama i think i seems to believe in two things that if you truly love someone you will wait and eventually you will be together, and maybe for the unfortunate fate you might not end up together but your place no one will be able to take, just like Grandma Li didn't marry anyone else after her lovers dead , and the 2nd thing is as long as you work hard , you can achieve what you want just like the female lead and male lead, and as well as the female lead father, he was poor before he married female lead mother but he promised his wife he will give them a good life and he made it through his hard works !
Overall this drama is good, it is not a clingy drama , but a lovely drama!!

Who do you love more? Me or your company?

I found this series as it was being heavily pushed on my YouTube timeline. Which is funny as I really don't watch C-dramas that much. I was intrigued by the clips they showed and Ms. Song is quite striking.

After 36 episodes, these are the things I thought were interesting/odd:
I agree with those saying that ShaSha seems to have had a cloistered upbringing, especially considering her Mom's personality. However, she studied abroad for years, so how did THAT work out? Seems inconsistent? It was nice to see her grow up and stand up to her Mom prior to her leaving for Africa.

The fact that Huasheng agreed to help Yuyi to do its IPO was interesting. Huasheng had to realize that Yuyi's stated purpose was to create a product to directly compete with and ultimately replace Huasheng. Other than being a lucrative contract, what incentive would there have been for Huasheng to assist Yuyi? And letting one of your lead staff (FL) date and have a relationship with this rival's CEO is a headache I'd kick over to HR to figure out. Xixi was right to complain to her boss that she needed to be out of the loop to avoid conflict-of-interest.

I think they really dropped the ball with the last episode: After all this, Ms. Tong misses the wedding ceremony? And XiXi's mom bails on it too? When I first saw that, I thought, "Oh sheesh, they're back with the sisters dissing each other?" The excuse of her not attending due to a class trip was lame. Just pay the actress and write her in for that one last ep, for gosh sakes! And the end scene: Where were they? The UK? European continent? The fact that they did not marry was odd, and definitely against the cliche-mode for the rest of the show.

Did the ML love the FL? I think so, very much so. But he's the typical techie: arrogant, smart, and clueless all at the same time. So he loves his company and the possibility of AI too. I would have rather they forced the ML have to choose between his company and her. They both are trying to have it both ways. And the FL does love him, but she has too much baggage in her life that she's only started to deal with. Her loyalty to her company is undeserved in this day and age (at least here in the US) especially considering they demoted her TWICE. She should have bolted and went to Yuyi as a consultant in translation services.

It was gratifying to see them have the ML eat humble pie at the end of the expo: that machines cannot replace the human touch, AI be damned. He just couldn't seem to grasp the difference between 'translation' and 'interpretation'. The former can be done by a device. The latter? Not so much.

It gets better after 18

I see many people bashing the FL ... I think it's understandable because the main conflict of the story is the FL's difficult personality. She has anxiety and self-esteem issues due to her family relationship with the grandfather/aunt. You can see clearly even at a young age, she couldn't explain well or even given the chance to do so (ie gift to her grandfather). Her personality was partially shaped by her family experience.
She grows as the story develops. I think after 19, the story becomes more interesting as she started to change based on her experiences. The ML didn't give up on her because essentially, she's a good person ( although not an ideal GF at first): she doesn't do illegal things, she makes sacrifices for people, and you know you can count on her help.
In real life, I have seen women like this FL ... very demanding and difficult but the partners still put up with them because they see qualities that I obviously missed.
But she does have issues with treating people with empathy. Again she will grow ... if she's perfect, we will have nothing to talk about.
For me, this story is watchable (although with some plots and character development issues). It is watchable because the ML CXX is a good actor. I remember that I thought in one really cringy scene that wow, if the acting isn't natural and good, it would have been very difficult to continue. He delivers the scenes charmingly but very watchable.
The weakness of this story is that the writers make some unconvincing storyline but it's saved by good acting. So I would say, it's a watchable drama. However, if you cannot stand unreasonable, unempathetic female leads, then I would say drop the story.

Don't waste your time. Bad script, bad acting, and non-existent romance.

Our Interpreter is a romantic comedy about rekindling Lin Xi's and Yi Cheng's love after they broke up 10 years ago. The plot is too boring, and nothing is exciting. I watch it to kill time while waiting for a better drama to air.

The Synopsis: Lin Xi, known as the "witch" in the translation industry, reunites with her ex-boyfriend Xiao Yi Cheng. Eight years ago, she broke up with him to fulfill her mother's wish for her to become a professional interpreter for the United Nations.

Eight years later, Lin Xi became the youngest chief interpreter at Huasheng. In contrast, her ex Xiao Yi Cheng has become a communications company's chief technology officer, making him her potential client.

To land a contract with Xiao Yi Cheng, Lin Xi has no choice but to keep dealing with him. She helps his company go public, and even though it seems that Xiao Yi Cheng is out to get revenge on Lin Xi, he doesn't have the heart to be mean to her. Work rekindles their passionate relationship, and Xiao Yi Cheng gradually understands why she broke up with him. Together, they work hard to realize their dream of "speaking for the country."

Pang Hong Mei and Ji Dan Yang fought a life-and-death battle with enemy agents in Lumen, thwarted the enemy's conspiracy, protected the "Water Drop Project," and achieved the expected success. The couple who went through the test of life and death also realized their dreams and firm ideals.

My Reviews:
1. At the beginning of each episode, they recited quotes from famous people in English, French, and Spanish, which was a distraction and annoying insert. The pronunciations were awful.
2. The plot is stupid and tries to show the dramatic and broken relationship of a well-known family whose business is in the interpretation field.
3. Victoria Song and Chen Xing Xu are typecast for the same boring role where they both play cold, bossy, prideful characters. It is also predictable when you know the drama's ending, so it does not require 36 episodes.
4. These two actors are decent, but they need better roles and/or scripts instead of playing the same type of role, which is draggy and boring.
5. The 2nd and 3rd CPs are boring plot fillers. The onscreen chemistry of all three CPs is nonexistent.
6. It has too much propaganda about China's self-made products on the international stage.
7. Stupid ending. She put her career above her happiness, and her BF goes along with it.

I have watched 27 episodes and will finish it as a background noise filler since there is nothing good in Cdrama for January 2024. I give it a 5.0 rating, which is generous.

It's not that bad or to good, it's an average drama.

It's not that bad or to good, it's an average drama.

1. ML- nothing bad regarding ML character.

2. FL- I have read comments of issues regarding the FL, yes, some were practical & some were illogical. When she broke up with ML 8 years ago, she broke up with telling the reason, from her perspective it may be only choice, because if ML give ups his dream for her than she may guilty for her whole life.
On the other hand, if she have told him the situation she is in now, he might have found the solution for the problem.
So it's difficult to say whether she is right or wrong in this.

3. ShaSha (FL cousin sister)- For me ShaSha's character, dialogues, reasons were illogical from start to end, FL was much better.

4. AI development shown in medical device & AI development in technology in sign language, I loved this that.

5. But the drama's main concept was on communication tool, which is just a communication tool, which is required for just only communication, & what is the need of emotion, feeling in a tool which is just a communication tool.

And mainly where AI & technology are developing, the mobile brands technology, features have developed so much & still it's developing, so mobile brands will install software in their mobiles & they will develop this software day by day & people will get this software installed on their mobile for free, why people will buy extra device only for translation purpose.

6. The writers decided to show that ML & FL was married & skip their ceremony. ShaSha & Wei Tian wedding ceremony was shown & it's good, but after they went for medical help, what happen there & how they got back together, everything was skipped & directly their wedding ceremony was shown.

good drama ever

I like this plot of drama. In this drama we can learn how to handle ourself in working life after finish study. i like the actor and actress so much so suitable. She has anxiety and self-esteem issues due to her family relationship with the grandfather/aunt. A waste of time

I'm sorry I tried but nothing helps. The F lead is too cold, too "I feel above CXX" I can't stand his attitude. The romance may have happened earlier than MY BOSS, however I was really bored because the couple was not convinced and the story next door had no interest. Nothing warm or cute on the program with a FL that never smiles. This is not a drama that I recommend because the age difference between the two did not work for me. I think Victoria should turn to dramas where she has more casual roles. She should avoid the Law...

Surprisingly I didn't hate this

I only watch these types of dramas for some noise on the side as most of the storylines falls into the typical drama tropes.

Surprisingly its decent. Few interesting parts:

1. The topic of AI over human translator. AI language translator will continue to advance, and I believe it will close the gap between different nations.
2. The beauty of languages. "lost in translation" happens a lot. It's important to capture the essence of true meaning. I think it takes a lot to be a good translator so, it's a cool profession!
3. Some decent supporting cast: The single mom that became successful w/o needing a father for her child.

What's NOT working for me:
1. Beginning quotes in terrible Chinese accents. Honestly there are plenty of Chinese English speakers that can deliver the quotes better.
2. Over skin smoothing. Typical for modern dramas. What's wrong with texture of real skin? The anti ageism is overboard with K and C dramas.
3. Weak 2nd lead. the "spare tire" is childish and not even worthy of a 2nd Lead no fault to the acting but the actual character.
4. Typical drama tropes. Yeah ... there's a lot... if you hate these just don't watch.
5. Nonmatching dialogue. You can tell when the original dialogue changed for whatever reason so then it doesn't match the lip sync.
6. FL/ML mediocre chemistry. I don't find Victoria Song having strong chemistry with any male leads. Her acting is enough for these types of roles, but when there's an emotional breakdown scene that's when her acting cracks.

Is it a worthy watch? On the side yes..... If you love the main leads, then Yes.... If you expect unique story, then NO. Literally there is nothing new to this story line. It's very typical other than the topic of AI vs traditional translating service.

A praise of the interpreters and a disappointment for CXX fans

Series all in praise of the interpreters, with Chen Xing Xu & Victoria Song in CL.

PLOT: Ex-lovers find themselves 8 years later in the workplace: the FL is an interpreter and dreams of working at the UN, the ML is CEO of an IT company which mainly works on translators with AI. We witness a long confrontation between man and machine, and the re-construction of a couple.

PROS:
+ I watched this drama mainly for Chen Xing Xu, who knows how to bring his characters to life with a talent, a naturalness, which always amazes me. I am less convinced by the performance of Victoria Song, who always plays the same character, cold, without emotion.
+ The supporting actors are good, the OST well suited, the story coherent.

BUT:
- the pace is slow most of the time. To stick to the 36-episode format, key passages are omitted (CL's marriage for example).
- Misunderstandings, which could be cleared up in 5 minutes, last, last, last. =>Skipping from 8 to 19.
- Too much importance is given to CL2 (and screen time), especially since this couple is not very credible: the FL2's character , as a spoiled princess, fragile, childish and capricious, does not match with the ex-soldier, down-to-earth and functional.
- The storyline has too many characters and narrative arcs that are useless, even disturbing.
- I understand the promotion of interpreting, but this series overuses it. ლಠ益ಠ)ლ
Not to mention the always nationalist aspect of Chinese dramas, where the characters all dream of working for the country...

=> I understand after watching, the relatively low-rating of this drama and the disappointment of Chen Xing Xu fans.
***********************************************************************************
